    Non-self propelled mowers are a better form of exercise, offer more control and have less parts to break!

  • @usfrandy6564

    One bad thing about this mower. There is no self propelled. It would be perfect for Bermuda grass and bahiagrass or any grass that can be cut 3" and shorter.

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  Před rokem +1

      There is a propelled version for a bit more money. But it only has one speed, and it's fast! Not quite a walk behind, more of a run behind.
      But this mower is not hard to push at all. Really like this one.

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 Před rokem +1

      It's pretty heavy as well. I think the shipping weight was 85 lbs. It's heavy enough that the handlebars flex a little more than I would like when maneuvering it around. The handle connects to the mower deck via a big piece of plastic instead of metal-to-metal which might be a problem in terms of longevity.

    Mowing that big yard with a 21 would really be Something to Look At. LOL.

      I used to mow 2 acres every week with a 22" push mower. Great exercise and fun. I wore the engine out in just two years.

    That Bahia is easy to cut. Try it on a Tifway Bermuda lawn that tall, cutting down to the same level you did. It will lock up that engine.

      @@LawnmowerMaster It's because the GXV-160 is only 158cc's and has NO cutting torque. Those mowers you speak of are no longer made I hope you know. Honda is out of the mower biz. And yes I own a Snapper with the commercial Honda GXV-160 on her. The weakest mower I have.

      @rickjames6948 Now that Honda is not making mowers I am now scared of not having parts for my brand new mower. Also, the mower has less cc’s but the torque is crazy on it.

    So what's the reason from Powersmart to make this type of an engine, does anybody know? Maybe to protect the crankshaft in case hitting a rock, ect..?

    Never understood this design....what's the purpose of a horizontal shaft engine? Assuming torque?

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  Před rokem

      Horizontal shaft engines are for things like 4 wheeled edgers or pressure washers with a separate pump or even a go cart where you need the shaft to drive a vertical wheel or pulley.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c Před rokem

      The shaft position has nothing to do with torque, but given it goes from the crankshaft of the engine directly to a 90 degree bevel/worm drive gearbox, you'll get more torque that way, but its belt drive from the gearbox to the blade, so you'll have slippage issues under heavy loads eventually, just more stuff to break and wear out, and from a no-name brand company you won't be able to get parts.

      I have 3 of these mowers so far. The weak spots are the cheap wheels and you really need to yank the cord hard to get it started. Dont slam the mower on the ground to unclog it. The front axle will break off. $35 new from powersmart if you do break it. They are a mulching monster once they are running. Ive cut foot high wet grass and weeds with mine. Once the mowing components die the engine will be fun to repurpose. Cant beat the mower for $35.

  • @suzanne9622

    Yeah, ditch the bag, who has time for that? Let it much and you won't need the bag. I have heard the engines on these are crap and won't last over a season. I hope yours lasts and proves that wrong. It looks and sounds like a nice machine. I have heard the engine is a Honda knock-off. Also that the engines are known to sieze and when they do they are nearly impossible to get parts for. Hoping that isn't the case. Good luck!

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  Před 11 měsíci

      I am told that the real engine name is under the sticker. I have yet to look under it. But it is a Chinese company I think and, yes, where do you get parts. But this one is in it's 2nd season with no problems.

      @Something2LookAt I've just been seeing parts are nonexistent and there are only like 3 authorized repair shops in the US. Then independent shops won't touch them.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c Před rokem

      @@towboatjeff Independent shops won't touch them because they have no clue how to work on them, as its a horizontal engine VS the normal vertical shaft engine seen on pretty much every walk behind out there.
      Problem is the price is way too high on these things for what they are, and its not self-propelled either.
      Given the horizontal shaft going into a 90 degree worm drive gearbox it'll produce more torque, but more stuff to break...they're already out of stock, so I don't see them coming back at all, and this particular model is the only one built with that horizontal shaft engine, every other mower they have is a vertical shaft engine, or electric/battery.
