      Such a good point. Some others will mow 4-6 inches of grass but sometimes you got to mow taller grass. I know you should use a string trimmer first but I wanted to know this too. I have a Toro super recycler from 2004 and it still works but for how much longer? I could mow this but with lots of running over the same area and taking partial rows. And I always mulch, I'd definitely need to side discharge. It's an 850 dollar mower but the performance seems good. Just sucks I would probably need a $500 battery in 5 to 6 years.

  • @vincentrobinette1507

    Wrong lower blade!!! The mulch blade that's on there now is specifically designed to spread grass clippings, not blow it into the volute and out the chute. This blade will not work well with the grass catcher bag either. I recommend either of the other two blades, the high lift would work the best, but at the expense of battery power. (less run time) If you had two batteries, the high lift blade, (the biggest one) would work perfectly. Another big help, is if you could mow away from the chute, to give the chute clearance from the adjacent tall grass would reduce restriction, for a much better discharge.

  • @audvidgeek

    That's impressive! I used to clean up vacant properties when I was in my late teens with a Honda Harmony, and it struggled through tall thick stuff like that. The Ego burned up a lot of battery, but got the job done well! I would typically need to "half-track" it with the Honda, by only cutting an half the width of the lawnmower. A few suggestions for improving the side discharge performance. First, Install the high-lift blade. I noticed you were using the mulching blade. That will give the clippings more velocity. Second, blow your clippings onto an area that's already been cut as much as possible. Blowing the clippings into an uncut-area means that the mower is working harder re-cutting the already-cut clippings, and thus the smaller bits can clog the discharge and consume more motor power. What I would do is mow in a counter-clockwise direction with the cute pointing outwards.

    Use the included high-lift blade for side discharge and bagging. The mulch blade doesn’t create enough air flow to remove the tall, heavy grass. The high-lift sucks air up into the deck and propels the clippings out much better.

    • @JechtAruon
      @JechtAruon Před rokem

      I bought a select cut but waiting to move in to the house to use. You think they could of made the side discharge a little wider as it looks real narrow in all the videos. Because I think some of the issues is due to tall grass it isn’t cut as fine and the long pieces interlockas being pushed out.

      @jeremybelcher6681 Před 9 měsíci +2

      The high-lift blade helps a little but the discharge design is simply fllawed. It's too small and tries to redirect the grass' momentum far too much.
      When mowing stuff like this I use a bungee to hold the entire rear flap open (sans discharge nozzle) slightly and let the grass come out as it pleases. Much better.

      I wouldn't depend on one video. My EGO experience has not been very good. The biggest culprit are their batteries that cost about $150 just for the battery. I am going to switch to a WORX brand mower. I have several Worx based battery tools and they work very well and I never have battery problems.

    • @tetrahedron_in_space
      @tetrahedron_in_space Před měsícem

      @@LT731Canales I think they price their batteries like that because they want you to really go all-in on the E-GO "suite" of tools. I got this lawnmower recently with an extra battery, and then a few weeks later I got the weed eater and will be getting the leaf blower later this year during the fall, and it's nice because I can just plug and play both batteries to get all my yardwork done without having to worry about gas and oil. But yeah, I think the batteries are a little pricey because they expect you to go all-in with the full range of tools that use those specific batteries.

    That lawnmower is a beast! Yes, I would say that cutting wet waist high grass with a push mower vs a riding mower is definately a torture test. Either way, keeping your grass shorter along the front ditch should help dry things out and also keep you mosquito population down. However, I would recommend resharpening the blades more frequently, or if you are like me, just replacing them and have a spare set ready to go. PS: Your 1 Bar could be borderline red, as lithium batteries hold full charge right up to the end and drop off dramatically. QUESTION: Any problem with the front staying down over level ground/bumps? When I looked at the mowers (now carried by Lowe's) they seemed back end heavy w/o a battery in.

    I have an older model Ego mower and I have no idea how it would perform in that high of grass but I suspect it wouldn't do well at all and would probably quit multiple times. I'm not surprised that you had problems with the side discharge. I frequently have problems with the side discharge getting clogged on my Ego mower and that is with me mowing normal height grass but dropped down to a lower setting. I finally gave up on the side discharge and I just mulch now. I do like the Ego mowers but my complaint is a typical one - having to pay $200 to $350 for a new battery every 4 to 6 years. Granted, that's what batteries cost for all of these battery-powered mowers.

    Debating this mower in the aluminum or polycarbonate deck. I have a very thick lawn, 12k sq ft of KBG grass, huge oak and maple leaves that drop basketball sized leaves in the fall. I use my current Honda HRX 217HYA 200cc with hydrostatic transmission and have zero issues it cuts like a dream. I also use it to vacuum/bag trimmed yews, hydrangeas, etc, after pruning. However, I'm getting older and like the appeal of electric. My concerns are as follows:
    1) Will this mower leave clumps, lines, and trails of grass while mowing
    2) I've read reviews that this will not pick up/vacuum leaves very well even with the high lift blades installed (doesn't come with the mower, apparently)
    3) Debating on getting two 12ah batteries buying mower by itself or the 10ah battery and charger combo and one additional 12ah battery as I want to be sure I can finish my tasks, I'd prefer a super fast dual battery charger if they make one
    4) Most importantly, I've read where Ego customer service is a joke, and if your mower stops working, you're helpless and essentially have a very expensive paper weight due to no local dealer support
    I'd appreciate any and all feedback or suggestions 😊

    I use my 21" mower pretty much exclusively to mow down cover crop in the garden including some semi-woody stemmed plants and to shred large amounts of leaves in the fall.
    Do you think an EGO are rugged enough to hold up with consistent use like this? I definitely put my mower under a lot of load when I do these things, the engine RPMs will drop down and not uncommonly the motor will just be killed (temporarily).
    I have a Honda HRC216 commercial mower that has held up fine but at 30 years old it is probably nearing its end.

    • @3RiversFishingAdventures
      @3RiversFishingAdventures  Před 6 měsíci

      For that sort of use, torque is the biggest factor and when it comes to torque, elec is king. These elec mowers act opposite of what you think. Instead of bogging down, it asks for more RPM's until it gets to a point where it says "that's enough" and it will cut out. I can't guarantee it will work, but I have to say I was impressed for sure.

  • @michaelhackenberg1434

    If your thinking ego mower or wiper sniper or a blower total can recommend it’s the best I don’t know what this bloke is doing but he has the mulching blade on witch he didn’t have to side discharge but hey it’s a awesome mower easy as it can be

    • @3RiversFishingAdventures
      @3RiversFishingAdventures  Před rokem

      Do you really think it would have worked in that grass without the discharge chute? If you think so, then you are the bloke. :) Sure it would have worked better with the high lift blade, but zero chance it mulches that hay field without a side discharge. Hey what the heck is a wiper sniper? LOL

  • @danyeo
    @danyeo Před 4 měsíci

    It's a good mower but the side discharge wasn't thought out well by Ego. The new 22 inch aluminum deck model has a redesigned side discharge that's supposedly fixed the issue.

    Pro tip dont let the discharged grass shot towards the tall grass. Instead let the discharged grass shot towards whats already been cut. That way your not cutting all the grass on top of already cut grass. Im sure a gas lawnmower would have stalled out with that tall wet grass to.

  • @JayHutchG
    @JayHutchG Před 19 dny

    good torture test, but you left the mulching blade on. The high lift blade would work better, but wet and ultra long grass won't cut well with ANY push more.

    I wish someone would do a real life battery life test because it seems these things are finally ready for prime time. But if I spend $850 on a mower, I want to know how long it might be before I have to buy another $500 battery. My current Toro super recycler mower is from 2004 and it's still going. But when it finally dies, I'm seriously considering an electric mower. Hopefully, people will have a better idea of battery life before I'm ready to buy one.

      I have an EGO battery from 5 years ago on EGO push mower. I also run thru tall grass. I'd say my battery gives out faster than when first got it, but still works & recharges. I'm an older lady, so doing shorter sessions to push mow (even when just walking around behind it) is actually a feature. :-) But wouldn't trade the mower for gas again! We spent $650 for the mower 5 years ago with 1 battery. I'm debating about getting a new battery, as well as debating about upgrading to an EGO riding mower.

  • @Mixwell1983

    The side discharge doesn't work well with long grass, you'd be better with a mulching blade and the plug for the test. Or the high lift bagger blade with bag.

    The reason it is not tossing out the grass well is you are using the wrong blade . You are using the standard and mulcher blade. You need to use the curvy blade that sucks the grass up and bags or discharges.

    The problem with electric mowers is they aren’t standardized at all. Gas mowers, for the most part can share parts and are abundant. These are all very specific designs and share no commonalities with each other. Not to mention the cost of replacing batteries once they ware out, and who knows if they will even be producing the same batteries when that time comes.. maybe in few years things will start to fall into place, but right now I’ll stick to gas mowers.
