  • During Corona quarantine 2020 I made this telecine for 16 mm wide narrow gauge film. It can handle not only 16 mm and Super 16, but also Panascope wide screen formats on Double 8 film and on Double Super 8.
The claw mechanism works very precisely without any hysteresis since it is presses against a hard stop with a spring mechanism. This leads to a very stable picture.

Abtaster für alle 16 mm breiten Schmalfilmformate. Durch Verstellen des Greifer-Anschlages können auch Breitwand-Formate auf unzerschnittenem Doppelacht und Doppelsuperacht Film digitalisiert werden.

Brilliant work, so elegantly simple and efficient! We need something like this commercially available that doesn't cost £30,000!

This is truly brilliant! Would you consider posting plans or instructions? Or would you consider accepting orders to build one? Website perhaps?

I have been working on an 8mm, and seeing what you do on a regular basis with claw mechanism is humbling. Your craftmanship is amazing.

Genau das was jeder braucht. Du solltest das Ding verkaufen! Woher hast du die ganzen Teile ausgeschlachtet? Kannst du vielleicht ne Bauanleitung für das Ding machen?
    Ganz Großes Kino!

Should consider using a mirrorless camera as the shutter will wear out!

I really like that it is so compact and for use on several formats. Good quality too.

If you are going to produce a small number of these, I'm ready to buy one. Or please start a kickstarter campaign. Many around the world will be enthusiast. Interest on real film is rising ALOT

Ah, the Stradivari of telecine contraptions did it again! Now i want to build my own claw mechanism.

Чудова робота. Але, здається, затвор фотоапарата не зможе довго працювати в такому режимі.

Trial and error while building it must have been maddening to say the least! Great Job! How long does it take to scan 50' feet?

Wirklich extrem beeindruckend! Ich würde direkt einen nehmen!

Brilliant. Would feeding it through at 25 frames a second and filming the resulting projection as a film rather than a series of stills work?

It's not a question if it works but what quality will come out.

    • @antonymorris1962

@@variopancolar6487 of course - but capturing in 4K Raw is eminently achievable now so is it necessary to capture raw stills at a resolution that it’ll never be screened at? Bit depth for colour correction can be achieved in video and it would obviously speed up the process massively. Just wondered if there was any other reason for the frame by frame technique

Wie bringst Du die Aufwickel-Spule dazu, sich schrittweise und in der richtigen Länge zu bewegen? Die Länge der Bewegung ändert sich ja, je dicker die Rolle wird. Rutschkupplung? programmierter Schrittmotor? ???

Hey that's awesome. I'm building a 16mm scanner myself right now, but a much simpler one. For framing and take up spool I'm using the single shot mode of an old camera that I'm taking apart and I have a macro cine copy lens adapted to a digital camera. anyway your construction seems way more sophisticated and I would love to make contact with you and share some ideas if possible? hoping for a reply! all best
