    I visited the Blue Lagoon 22 years ago and it was nothing like it is now, apart from the water that is. You got changed in a tiny wooden shed and there was no walkway or steps or face packs. Just a pool, but we loved it ❤️

    I love the way you picked that silica mask out of your nose! I should mention that there is another option now since May 31 for a lagoon experience. It is in Kopavogur, actually a suburb of Reykjavík and super close to the city. It is slightly more expensive but offers beautiful views of the ocean. It is brand new and just beautiful. The locals seem to like it very much. Just another option for us tourists. My family and I are taking a nine day trip to Iceland at the end of October and we might just encounter off-season prices! Here’s hoping. Thank you so much for your informative videos!

    Back in the days, Icelanders used to bathe every Saturday in one of these geothermal natural hot pools, as well as wash their clothes in them. This is why we call Saturdays "Laugardagur" which literally translates to "Pool day" :) Swimming pools are a big thing in Icelandic culture, kids are taught how to swim in elementary school, we do "sjóböð" (swim in the sea), we chat with strangers about weather and politics in public hot tubs and we just overall love being in the water :) It has been speculated that Icelanders have benefitted from the clean air, the natural pools, and the healthy food combination, Icelanders today are the descendants of those who survived in the olden days :) Survival of the fittest. Very nice seeing your videos as always, got a subscriber out of me :)

    Visited in 2019, the lagoon was a beautiful, unique spot and definitely worth the hype. It’s very touristy, and when you first step into the water near the building where you check in it does have some theme parkish vibes. But if you walk further out into the lagoon away from the entrance it’s awesome. Great views, a very authentic feeling, and it’s very peaceful. Interesting looking rocks all around.

    Ok, I know this is a difference between UK and Iceland, but in the UK we can shower with costumes on before we go into the pool (although many don’t bother showering at all). If you’re asked to shower without a costume, do they provide private cubicles, or at least some separation to allow some semblance of privacy for those of us with serious body anxieties? It’s a difficult enough mental exercise to be seen in public in a swimming costume.

    • @TheAwkwardTourists
      @TheAwkwardTourists  Před 2 lety +3

      You can close the curtain of the shower, and get privacy if you really try. But if you're uncomfortable with nudity you'll have a very hard time in that locker room. No one bothers to cover up

      I visited the Blue Lagoon five days ago and most people showered with their suits on before getting into the water. There doesn’t seem to be any enforcement of doing otherwise. The showers were individual stalls enclosed in opaque glass. If you are concerned about being naked in public there, there is little to be concerned about beyond getting changed in front of your locker.

      If you have an issue with nude people or being nude, you will have a problem at any of these types of places in Europe unfortunately

      You can hike there for free on your own, which is what we did, or you can hire a tour for a fee

    It is way overpriced. When I went back in 2016 it was half the current price of $70 USD for the cheapest ticket. For example, Laugarvatn Fontana hot spring is a natural one that is half of the price of the Blue Lagoon and is next to a lake with saunas.

      Yeah, It is definitely pricey. We visited some other springs on the trip that were free, but each have there own appeal I guess

    I am currently in Iceland now and the food and groceries are sooooo expensive. Like it costs more here than Japan.

    Well, to be honest: this was about the only place I was disappointed about in Iceland. Well, you can't have it all.

      We visited some other hot springs on our trip, that we probably liked a little bit more than the blue lagoon, but we had to check out this one, just because it is so famous.

    The place is garbage. I was there last week (Monday at noon) and 5 days later tested Positive for COVID. Lockers were unavailable, at one point even the hot water went out at the showers (causing serious traffic for about 20 minutes). There were a lot of rowdy young people and the place had a spring break feel. The only thing missing was the rap and techno music and a volleyball.

    so this is why the blue lagoon look white? all mask is washed inside the pool XD

    • @TheAwkwardTourists
      @TheAwkwardTourists  Před 2 lety

      The Pools have Silica Mud on the bottom (the white) and the water if pumped up from Geothermal vents that are deep underground. I think that is what makes the water that color
