  • Drone footage of a few of Irelands rarely seen faerie ring forts, set to beautiful neo classical music from Secession Studios. And a little faerie magic as well.
    Shot in 4K, check your video settings to ensure you get the best quality.
    This five minute film represents many , many hours work. I hope you enjoy it.
    It`s free to view my Ko-Fi page where you can follow me. And if you would like to buy me a coffee while you are there that would be very kind.
    Many thanks.

    Wow Curious Celt, that was put together really well, the imagery, the music even the special effect at the beginning and end. For anyone watching, the Ordinance Survey road maps of Ireland are very detailed to the point they point out ring forts, standing stones, castle ruins etc. when I worked in Ireland for two years in 99&00, I had a company car, those maps were my best friend, I grew up in the era of using maps and those maps are excellent. I’ve explored many of these rings often asking the land owner for access and always welcome. It was very rewarding. This was before the motorways were built, so also used for alternative routes as traffic could be brutal back then.

    In modern society it’s easy to be sceptical about the existence of faeries and to call it nonsense, we nearly all have a computer of some sort and can “ fact check” everything. It’s hard for us to imagine living in a society without formal education, without books, without shops, without knowledge of the world around us apart from our locality and our elders knowledge passed down.Imagine that and trying to make sense of the world around you. I’ve recently read some of the fairies stories from around Ireland that are dating back well over 1000 years. They deal with human emotions, love,hate,envy,revenge,fear,bravery,cowardice etc and give an insight into how people lived and perhaps how they taught people to interpret their emotions. In a time with no maps they talk about geographical features that exist to this day. There is a cave in Co. Roscommon that was known as “ Ireland’s gate to hell “. During Samhain or Halloween the veil to this otherworld was weakened and that when night fell daemons would issue forth from the cave and roam and pillage the land and crops. A good way of keeping children away from the cave perhaps !

    Aren't these more likely ancient burial mounds rather than "Faerie forts"?

    • @TheCuriousCelt
      @TheCuriousCelt  Před 3 lety +11

      Most are simply " raths". Consisting of a round house, sometimes on a small mound, protected from wolves and bears etc by a pallasade and a circular ditch. These date from the bronze age up to the early medieval period. The larger mounds are generally late medieval mottes.
      It is well known in Irish folklore that the faeries claimed these sites after they were abandoned by people.
      It is the fear of the faerie curse that has protected so many ring forts and mounds to this day.
