I love hockey gear talk! One of my favorite subjects to talk to other hockey players about and this video was the dopamine rush I needed for the day so thank you.
I always wondered how pro players would get their gear when it goes out of circulation, especially if they get traded and need it in another color. Like Tarasenko and Hoffman for example: they get moved from teams with completely different color schemes and yet they get new helmets to match their team's colors. The retailers make a brand new helmet for them so they still could make those models I'm assuming. I would be interested in knowing if they could update old helmets with new foams and stuff, that would be awesome! I wonder why companies aren't doing that.
the ccm 710 has to be one of the most underrated helmet
Personally didn’t love it, but I know a lot of people that do like it the best!
I wear the 710 very comfortable my gf wears the new 720 which replaced the 710..
The CCM 710 was ranked 48th and given 1 star for safety by the Virginia Tech hockey helmet testing team. By comparison, the CCM FL500 is currently ranked #1 and given 5 stars.
@@mhicaoidh1 It's still a hockey helmet and will protect you when playing hockey, In my eye the fitting of the helmet plays a bigger role in protection than what the rating of these testing organisations say.
didnt fit my head :(
had a re-akt 150 for 2 years, loved how comfortable it was but got 2 concussions in it. switched to a ccm tacks 910 after the second concussion, that's my favourite helmet ever now. comfortable, not super expensive, and no concussions for the 3 seasons i played in it.
Best helmets of all time-
Bauer 4500/Cooper HH3000
CCM HT2
Cooper SK 2000
CCM Vector V08
Bauer RE-AKT 150
While you stated that people "don't want to hear" about all the gear, I think you should dive into it if you want to. You get to control what content you put out, and I think it could make an interesting point. Not everyone is aware of how all of the manufacturers have been bought, sold, and merged with. Expanding on the CCM and Reebok relationship is worth it, as is the Bauer/Nike/Cooper connection.
I got the CCM Super Tacks X a few months ago and it’s extremely comfortable, would like to try on the RE-AKT 150 though.
Yea man the Super Tacks X is extremely comfortable, good choice!
I find it scratchy as hell, but it is comfy when it isn't rubbing on my scalp. I do love the breathability though.
After countless years rocking a Bauer/Nike 4500 I made the switch. I tried the Bauer 5100 and CCM Resistance but found both of them to "run hot" and ultimately landed on using the Bauer IMS 9.0.
Just got a Warrior Alpha pro for Christmas. It was the most comfortable one for me, having a more narrow head. The boa adjustment is really convenient and it's a fair bit lighter than my old reebok 9k
Love that! I think it’s Warrior’s best helmet for sure
CCM 310. Been happy with it but thinkin of gettin a new one for next year. Rocked a resistance before the 310, guess its been 10+yrs with that model! Like how it fits, any suggestions on what similar to it nowadays? Lightweight is nice, protection i might wanna bump up a bit... And of cause coolfactor plays a part 😆😉
If you like CCM I’d stick with it! Lots of good options with them, at all price points
On the bauer hyperlites, there has to be some sort of comfort or safety issue with it. My school's team is sponsored by Bauer. A couple years back every single player (except 1 iirc) started the season in a hyperlite. Within 4-6 weeks, not one player was wearing a hyperlite. They had all switched to the Reakt 150, with 1 or 2 guys wearing one of the other reakt models.
I personally started off with an IMS 5. It sucked so I got an IMS 11. After a couple years the IMS 11 stopped fitting correctly. Tried to switch to a Tacks 710, but no matter what size I tried, it simply did not fit my head. Been wearing a reakt 150 since.
Thank you for these informative presentations.
I know next to nothing about modern era equipment . I have switched from JOFA 390 to CCM Tacks X only this year .
Bauer Vapor X Pro for wide fit.
New gloves? No. Sticking with old leather. KOHO 750, 650.
JOFA 900, 886. I 'd gladly wear Eagle Paragon again given the option. Subscribing
I wear the CCM Vector 8. Your information is inaccurate. I purchased this (my second V8) 3 years ago at a retail chain here in Canada. That would make it 2021. That would be Connor McDavid's 6th year in the league. I don't remember him wearing any other model. He also wears the original Jetspeed FT skate boots (My information is that he goes through a pair every 10 to 12 games) with the original bolt through blade holders not the quick release.
I stand by what I said as I reached out to a few people on the timing of it - but yes it is always possible to find some of them at retail despite having production stopped for retail.
Agreed on the skates man! Very cool info
My doughter of 11 rocks in the Bauer 150 snd my son after trying numerous of different helmets could only have bauer hyperlite.
Had the Reebok 8k and Bauer 9900 in high school, loved both of those. When I went to college, I picked up a 4500 and then the OG Re-Akt. Now that I'm a beer leaguer, I stick to the 4500 and plan to for a loooong time. Now that they discontinued it at retail, I'm trying to get one in a bunch of different colors.
Collect em all!
@@hockeycollective that’s the plan!!
I'm old school. I still use the older CCM. It's comfortable and I like it.
Id like to see people using Mission, and Sherwood. I currently wear Mission helmet. I have a wide head, and Mission only thing that fits.
What I've always wondered is how do the pros change the colour of their discontinued buckets when they gey traded or whatever. I feel like paint wouldn't stick very well and probably compromise the integrity in some way. Is there just a stockpile of every helmet in every colour out there somewhere?
It's a great question! Not sure tbh
@hockeycollective to be fair, goalies have theirs painted but I feel if players helmets were regularly painted we would see more evidence of chipped paint/revealing of older coats or something.
I’ve been using the Tacks 310 for about 5 years and I absolutely love it
I got the Hyperlite 2 helmet. Crazy light. I barely notice it. MAtched with the Bauer 3 cage and that combos a beast.
That’s sick! Comfy too?
Yea. I bought the Tacks X helmet but returned it unused after I saw safety ratings on it. The nest tech looks way too fragile. There was only one adjustment point.
My Hyperlite 2 that I got right after is very comfortable. It has the three flaps for adjusting that you find on the re akt helmets and also has a “occiptal lock” that wraps around the lower back of your head. Many helmets I’ve had lasted 2 hour sessions before unbearably uncomfortable. I’ve never had that happen with the Hyperlite 2.
I love it and don’t regret that I returned the Tacks X. The Hyperlite 2 is exactly the type of helmet I need.

For beer league I’m rocking a very bare bones and basic CCM HT50. I was a Bauer 4500 user for years and still love that bucket but it definitely was not the most comfortable helmet for me.
Love it!
I bought a Bauer 4500 to use as my coaching helmet but I could just not do it. It is too narrow. I can't get the fit right. I wear a CCM Tacks 710 and I love it!
Agreed man it just never fit me right. Good choice on the 710
I definitely got a real bad concussion wearing the 4500 during a game in Prague. Not the most protective but it definitely fit well.
Damn. Need some of the new modern protection for sure
They should make more helmets from different lines (Supreme, vapor, jet speed, ribcor) because for example supreme is a more anatomical fit which would be nice for people with wider heads!
the V08 is a classic and for $80 (if you can still find it) it's a steal, i got my last one in 2017 but i haven't seen it new since but it's still common to see it on pro stock sites
Yea can still find it online lots of places!
Bauer 4500 gave me headaches. Had to get rid of it and bought a now-defunct Cascade M-11. Super comfortable but, after almost 10 years, it may be time for a new one. Eyeing a re-akt 150.
Re-Akt is awesome, I would suggest it!
what happend to the OG re akt with the switch on the back
The Bauer 4500 is such a vet helmet. Feels like a rock too
bauer re-akt 150 is for sure the most comfortable helmet i've used
It’s so comfy
I wear ccm, I’ve always felt that bauer helmets fit a little tight on the sides although bauer has a better looking helmet. Warrior gear never gets the respect it reserves. Also, how long before sherwood comes out with a bucket? Throw it on Bedard.
I love the bauer ims 9 I've had it since I was 10 and still use it in beer league today
That’s a classic too!
I got a Hyperlite 1 as my first helmet cause it was on clearance from Bauer for 120£ (~205 CAD) after the 2 came out and I love it! Really adjustable, super lightweight, and comfortable for me. I think it’s pretty polarizing as far as looks go, though, so might be part of why no one uses it? I’m new to hockey gear so that doesn’t bother me, but it’s definitely… different
Yeah it just looks bad
I had the reakt-85 and it (the liner) fell apart in under a year, and now I'm in the CCM 910. I wanted the 710, but I couldn't fit my massive dome into it.
That’s too bad, I have heard of the liners ripping/coming off before.
@@hockeycollective exactly what happened to mine. Super comfy though.
I wonder do players have the same modells for home and away games? If yes this means older bucket modells are still being produced right?
Home and Away are the same models for just about every player, I haven't noticed any this year that are different!
patrick maroon rocks a ccm FL80 on the road, and a bauer reakt 150 at home.@@hockeycollective
Bauer ims 5.0 with a grey Oakley visor and the ear guards cut out cause they’re attached.
Beauty!
oh man those old reebok helmets.. we used to put orange tape on the side ones and white down the middle.. brings back memories
So many memories with them haha. I swear everyone had those Reebok helmets for a few years
A lot of guys in the nhl can get custom padding and stuff. Crosby still gets ccm to make him a crazy old model of reebok gloves. If you look at his gloves on geergeek they’re super old and he’s the only player listed as wearing them lol . And on like sideline swap you’ll see helmets with custom padding. So I doubt the ccm v08 and Bauer 4500 helmets being worn by nhl players are completely stock.
I use a ccm 210 and I love it it’s blue for my team
Interesting that the CCM Super Tacks X is 2nd last on Virginia Tech's list of protectiveness. The Bauer Re-akt 75 is the best value helmet rn, #4 in terms of protection and only $120
That's a neat list! Just checked it out, thanks
It's a test based on american football helmets, where helmet to helmet contacts is a higher risk. It favors very stiff helmet constructions, which may not be relevant to hockey.
@@tgj1941 That might have been true at one point, but it looks like they do specific tests for each helmet category now. From the site: "The score values in these ratings are not comparable to score values in our helmet ratings for other sports. This is because there are differences in test methods, impact conditions, risk calculations, and impact weightings specific to each sport."
all I know about hockey is I buy beer I buy a jersey and maybe a scarf and I get drunk and cheer on my local Junior A team.
That’s a good routine man!
I love my reakt 200. Might have to try out the 150
Don’t
I still like the Bauer that was bought from mark messier cascade 7 cell model
I wear Bauer re akt, probably the best helmet I’ve ever worn. I find Bauer fits thinner heads while ccm is wider
That's a good thought!
I wear Bauer with a full cage on it ( my sledge hockey league requires the cage ) I can wear any helmet as long as it’s got full face protection. I’m not sure of the exact model or anything
Love it! I find Bauer the comfiest
In my opinion the ccm jet speed fl90 is the most comfortable helmet I’ve ever used I used to use my dads old Bauer 4500 loved the heck out of that thing but it started hurting my head so I went to the ccm 710 for a while until this year I decided to change and go with ccm fl90
Love it!
I wear the ccm 210. I’m only able to wear a helmet that can go up to an 8 in size. I prefer ccm but if I could wear a true or warrior I would I’m not a fan of Bauer
That's crazy man! I need a Large helmet and I had to go to 6 stores to my most recent Bauer Re-Akt lol
I have a hyper lite 2 helmet, and I really enjoy it. It really forms to your head nice. I’m really curious why nhl players don’t wear it.
ccm v08 here, so comfy. the modern helmets never fit my head right and constantly shift.
The shifting is interesting, quite a few people complain about that
@@hockeycollective seems no matter what I do they don't stay snug. have tried warrior krown and alpha lines, as well as reakt.
I have the 710 and 910 and both are frkn comfortable man
It’d be awesome if Bauer can make a remake of the 4500 with a newer inside
thinking about 910, X is too freaking expensive.
I wish I did more research before I bought my R65. I should have gone for the r85 for better protection. Why would NHL' rs take chances in not wearing the best head protection?
I'm a goalie and the Bauer Profile 940 is sooo comfy
Im rocking the ccm 720 and i love it
Did the 720 replace the 710? Are they essentially the same thing, or totally different?
@@jeffschaefer4827 great question. There’s a 920 now I think so I imagine it’s the step down from that, whereas I believe the 710 was the top line.
I play beer league now so I’ve lost touch with the latest and greatest gear. I knew it all back in the day lol
No CCM TACKS 910??
Bauer Re Akt 100 is the best helmet ever. No one wears it anymore except for Jack Hughes. I'm in good company
CCM HT2 - tough guy helmet for the win
I dont think anyone wears the hyperlites because they are ugly abd it looks like a space helmet
I’d agree with that too 😂 looks a little too *futuristic* imo
I wear the fitlite 3DS. It fits well and is very customizable but will probably switch to a Bauer re-akt model
CCM HT2 is best looking helmet for me
There's gotta be someone here saying something about the Jofa 390/395
I wear bauer reakt 65 and hate ccm they just fit weird
Going some what old school the itech hc100 was my favorite I had 4 of them and the last on just broke 😭. For me it was super comfy and fit my head well.
Damn! Sounds like it was a good run though
@@hockeycollective it was they are impossible find now days. No idea what helmet I'm gonna wear now. It's the same with skates don't know what I'm gonna get once these graf 727 give up. Guess I'll finally get a pair of custom grafs 😂. All these new composite skates are not me. Guess I'm just stuck in the 80's and 90's 😂.
Itech is a name that takes me back. I was a goalie but had plenty of their gear.
@@TylerJohnstonGuitar my little brother has their goalie leg pads
@@CPsGarage Had a set back in 2006-ish, they were cool because when you put them together the graphic made an “I” for Itech. Really nice pads but I grew out of em quick. Next I went to Vaughn and finished my playing career with Bauer leg pads and Vaughn gloves.
CCM tacks 50
So mad the Bauer 4500 is out of production now
Crosby wearing a $70 bucket is probably the most surprising thing
He's a creature of habit, that's for sure!
I’m a 4500 guy, I do have to correct you on something, Travis Hamonic wears an Easton stealth helmet however since Bauer bought Eastons hockey branch there’s a Bauer logo on it😂 Easton made easily the ugliest helmets of all time I hate them, in fact when I was a kid I’d dislike any player who wore it I hated them so much
That’s very interesting on the logo, thanks man! I found a few contradicting pieces on what he wears this season, so I just left it alone tbh. But GearGeek does have him in an Easton too
I'm still a believer players should not be forced to leave the ice if their helmet comes off. Let the play finish nhl.
There's just something about watching a guy play out their shift with no helmet. It shows what this sport is, guys do anything for the team and for the victory.
Nike Bauer 9500 helmet is my favourite of all time
I miss Nike in hockey man
My one question is can players choose a brand which they like or does the entire team wear same brand?
In the NHL, the players have the freedom to choose. Some leagues, like the AHL or Major Junior leagues, will limit the entire league to one provider such as CCM. All depends on the level and the league
Found a Pro Stock Tacks X for $250. Totally worth it.
That’s a good deal! Definitely worth it
Ccm v08 >>
Oh and the hyperlite looks like a space helmet lol that’s why no one wears it
Hockey Collective you should do pants next?
Might have to! Thanks
I have a hyperlite 2. It's possible that nobody wears it because it doesn't breathe well, so you sweat like crazy.
That's interesting! I'd expect a helmet that new and that expensive $$ to breathe well - thanks for sharing
@@hockeycollective No prob! It's weird, cuz it's comfortable and very easily adjusted for head fit, but overall my old helmet had way better airflow, and I even switched to a visor with it. I get my visor with a giant bullet of sweat any time I look down.
Shour out Bauer. I wear it, and they're paying me for it.
My 4500 will always be on my head. Even as I write this. I sleep with it like a stuffed animal now that they discontinued it at retail.
Best comment yet lol
You should of the most popular hockey pants
The Hyperlite and Hyperlite 2 Helmets feel like bricks against your head, really uncomfortable helmet.
Interesting! Damn
I wear the warrior alpha pro, ive got such a wide asian melon that nothing else fits
bauer IMS 5.0 best helmet for price!
While stupidly expensive, the custom version on the super tacks x is hands down the most comfortable helmet you’ll ever wear, way better than the also stupidly expensive retail version. I’m willing to bet that the NHL guys probably all have the custom versions too just because money is nothing to them & with the added comfort of the custom, honestly I can’t see why the NHL guys would wear a non custom.
I’ve heard great things about it! But like you said, not the most affordable for everyone
@@hockeycollective Nothing is. I had to go custom on my skates because I can’t get into a fit 3 without my feet crying to get out of skates after 10 minutes. That was $1400+ USD =/
i think the hyperlite helmet looks so dust it looks like an egg
Anybody remember the Mission M11? One of the ugliest buckets of all time, my brother had one lol.
Looked very funny lol
1:02 true stopped making any gear excluding sticks, gloves, and skates
Correct! But with how many guys are wearing old helmets, I assumed their would still be 1 or 2 guys kicking it around
no bucket will ever top the OG patty kane Bauer Reakt
Iconic tbh
4500 till I die. I will be very sad when I can’t find them as an old man
i feel like they should be using better quality helmets to protect against head injuries and they dont really affect performance at all. I dont get why some guys use those awful foam buckets
I would agree. Helmet is the most important piece of equipment these days
Bauer 4500 is the goat
McDavid and McKinnon wear the v08 because thats what they worse in junior
Exactly! Creatures of habit
The Warrior Alpha One helmet to me is perfect. The BOA system is so good, idk why it isn't more popular. I sell so many at my store, I recommend it to everyone, especially kids because even they can adjust it on the fly and the one piece design is super safe. I find it fit everyone, no matter your head shape. The Pro model is only $129.99 and the top spec is $239.99
What? No Jofa 😢
Would love to see a comeback!
Sad Jofa noises.
Good video, but the mouth noises during narration are killing me. It's like I can hear your lips smacking and stuff like that lol
I think no NHL players use the hyperlite helmets because they just look kind of dumb
Very fair lol
I’d gotta say the reason why no one wears the hyper light and the hyper light 2 buckets is bc there ugly they make ur head look like a bubble
do skates
We did a few weeks ago! Check our channel for more
Hyperlight helmets are the ugliest helmets
the Reebok 11k (Aka the Armadillo) is the worst helmet i’ve ever seen
