Mercedes isn't unique in subcontracting vehicle assembly done all over the world. Sometimes a third party can produce a vehicle more cost effectively, especially when a low volume vehicle doesn't justify its production cost, but manufacturer still wants a presence in the vehicle segment. The W463 is a bit of a parts bin special. It’s really interesting to see a post 2000 model, and how they’ve just glued in new interior trim items into the same old interior. It’s quite interesting that a 90s version has similar switchgear to the 300SE you have.
