  • Chase's first time playing in soccer games was at school, in South Africa. He decided to try it out for Term 2 and was given the opportunity to play as goalkeeper. Although he didn't have any experience, he received a lot of support and guidance from his teammates and coaches. Chase came in 2nd place for best goalkeeper during the Jabulani Tournament 2024. He was able to practice and play games for one month at school and now has a love for soccer! AWESOME EXPERIENCE! 👌🏾 ⚽️

    The tournament is probably named after the iconic ball that was used during the 2010 world cup which South Africa hosted. It was called the Jabulani.

    Usually marks are given in percentages here, so if you got 50% thats a minimum pass rate, also if you get 80% and above that is considered a Distinction pass rate or flying colours. Then a fail would be a range from 49% down to 0%...hope that helps.

    I'm not sure whether Chase's school grades the same, but these are pretty much the same everywhere:
    0-29: Not achieved (level 1)
    30-39: Elementary achievement(2)
    40-49: Moderate achievement(3)
    50-59: Adequate achievement(4)
    60-69: Substantial achievement(5)
    70-79: Meritorious achievement(6)
    80-100: Outstanding achievement (7)
    If Chase got a level 6 on his report, then he did quite well. A level 7 is a distinction, and the highest possible level (equivalent to an A). The pass requirements are different per subject, eg. A 40% on your report is required to pass your home language but you only need 30% in order to pass another subject. The pass requirements differ, however. Since I assume that the little man is in an IEB school, so just ask his teacher. But the levels are standard across all quintiles in the country.
    Hope this was a bit useful towards answering your question...

    I attended high school from grades 9 to 11 in South Africa and 12 in the U.S. In South African schools, studies are more demanding, with longer hours required for term tests. I believe Chase attends an IEB school. I recommend checking with the school directly, as private schools often have higher passing requirements than the government. For instance, while the government's pass rate is 30%, my school mandates a minimum of 40% to pass a grade or subject. This is to prepare students for the grade 12 matric exams. The grading standards for schools are as follows:
    - 0-29: Not Achieved
    - 30-39: Elementary Achievement
    - 40-49: Moderate Achievement
    - 50-59: Adequate Achievement
    - 60-69: Substantial Achievement
    - 70-79: Meritorious Achievement
    - 80-100: Outstanding Achievement
    Students who receive different color blazers for academic achievements fall within levels 6 and 7. The high school I attended in Durban from grade 9 to 12 grouped in the same homeroom class according to educational level. So, all those on level 7 were in one homeroom. They said it was meant to reach each student at their respective levels. Mind you, we all mingle in selective classes based on our chosen subjects. For example, levels 7 and 3 students can be in the same accounting class together if that makes sense. The kids will learn as they go.
    Your kids are intelligent and well-rounded; they will b😢ebe ok.

    • @OurJourney2SouthAfrica
      @OurJourney2SouthAfrica  Před 2 měsíci +1

      OMG, I sure hope so! The studies are VERY demanding!
      Thank you for the information. It helped make sense of some things.

      @nuxannharvey4932 Před 2 měsíci

      @OurJourney2SouthAfrica They will be fine. Make sure they learn to summarize their notes very well. Those colour pens and highlighter can be very useful.
      The good news is that it sets them a few steps ahead of their peers in the states. In my grade 12 year in America, all the lessons were like a joke to me. I graduated with 3.89GPA, and I was a Cs and Ds student in SA.
