It would be nice if the devs could incorporate a choke system for the shotguns
When CTW gives you hit percentage and location it is over all hits- such as your first deer you hit flesh and lung with three total hits, not 3 hits in the lung. So they are pretty accurate in their 3D rendering of bullet hit tracing, not saying they are always accurate but on your first deer that was fairly accurate in the over all description.
Definetly do more Shotgun-Stuff, it shows that the community has an interest in them !

Interesting. 10 gauge buckshot would be nice to see for comparison since it should be more powerful than 12 gauge (at least I’d expect?)

Buckshot is buckshot its the same pellet at the same speed regardless of gauge, but bigger gauge will have more pellets.
@@EthanPDobbins that’s not true. 10 gauge buckshot has larger pellets than the 12, 16 or 20 which have smaller pellets but more of the them
@@SomeRandomGuyWhoPlaysGames pellet sizes are the same, and you can get different loadings with different size pellets in different gauges, and different length shells can have different numbers of pellets as well. Gauge is the size of the bore. Pellet # determines pellet size. Some cartridges like 410 can only take 3 #00 pellets vs 9 in a 12 gauge, or 18 pellets in a 3.5 inch 10 gauge shell. 10 gauge will fire more of the same size pellet at roughly the same velocity. It merely increases the size of the payload.
@@EthanPDobbins I’m talking about in cotw, where the 10 gauge buckshot has larger more powerful pellets which is why it can kill larger class animals

I love buckshot just wish there was a bit of tighter pellet spread or modified shotgun choke for the guns to where 40 yards all 8 would hit. Im always at a delema whether i want to use my crossbow or 12 gauge to take the animal normally the 12 g takes the cut most of the time. 12g slugs are devastating in this game a little more penetration than the 7mm soft points but the destruction of 7mm polymer tips granted slugs should cover all the way to class 9 especially with 3 inch shells delivering 3105 ft lbs at of energy with a 1 oz piece of lead comparing it to the 300 with a 150 grain bullet is 3260 foot pounds of energy
You need to remember that even in real life a shotgun is best for close shots. Deer usually run off and you have to track them just like in game. I think the term “buckshot” makes the actual load seem greater than what it is. I’m not saying it’s horrible, but I’m not saying it’s wonderful either. It’s great for close range and for deer drives.
I'd love to see the 10 gauge buckshot test.
The games giving you better results than you'd get with real buck on real critters at those ranges

First time I decided to hunt with shotguns I shot a roe deer from less than 20m and it didn't reach the organs, maybe there's some random stuff that affects the shot?
What sight is on the gun? I have never seen it, also where can I get it?
The first one swallowed the third buckshot and choke on it. Thats how it got in the lungs lol
I used buckshot for axis yesterday. I lost more animals than I bagged. Killed 3 or 4. Lost a Sambar deer, too. Also killed a fox by Hitting him in the back leg with only 1 pellet at 85 yards!
It helps to know how to use this ammo in real life, buckshot is good for closer ranges. At 30m or more you'd want to use slugs
Controlled flight buckshot can be good with a full choke out to up to 60 yards/meters for hunting. Can even hit out to 100 for "combat" as your pattern will be roughly 3-4 feet wide at that distance.

i always wanted to use a shotgun for hunting anything other then class 1 species in the game but the buckshot is terrible, the slugs are ok but they could had a buff for penetration
3 things that could help buckshot are reduce the pallet spread, choke for the shotgun and buff the pallet penetration

My problem with buckshot is that you need to be extra careful so a stray pellet doesn’t damage the “trophy organ”

2:00 I think the shot information here is actually correct. It's easy to tune out that the information says "FLESH, left lung (3 hits)", which is accurate since the other hits include the flesh areas. Of course there's that kind of ghost pellet not leading anywhere lol, but flesh is the intention.

In real life I hunt whitetail with dogs and I use 3 inch gauge buckshot shells and dropped a deer a 73 yards

I like using buckshot in the game. I will use it for close in shots (under 35 yards). I also find that the 20 gauge is great for smaller stuff like roe deer, musk deer, lynx, bobcat, and coyote. I have used the buckshot on moose and elk but it is not recommended. Bears tend not to run far with a good buckshot hit. I have killed brown bear on occasion in Med Ved. Great for wild boar as they tend not to run far with buckshot (20 or 12 gauge). It does well on wild goats in New Zealand. My experience with Sika deer differs from yours. Mine generally go a short distance and drop. Generally anything bigger than whitetail, I will use slugs - but it takes a while to level up to get the slugs.
I remember as a kid, me and my grandfather used to use 4 buck on geese. You could smack a goose 50 yards flying and easily hit one 70-80 yards sitting on the ground. Worked wonders for turkey too, don't think it was legal then and it definitely ain't now 🤣🤣🤣

The number of shots it shows hit, isn't the amount that hit the lung for example, it's the amount of shots that hit the animal
Asked some time ago ... Is a female diamond gemsbok more common then a male gemsbok? Did find only male gems lvl5 that trolled then female lvl5 together ..
I use buckshot sometimes, it can be annoying to try and sneak up on the animal though
Something I want to talk about is the fact that the RIFLE reflex sight only fits on the double barrel shotguns, the zenith, and the 22 pistol... If there was anything that pissed me off in call of the wild, It's that.

I'm from South Africa and the way to properly pronounce the word Gemsbok is not pronouncing the g like saying gate but ratherlike if you were clearly your throat saying the g, if any other south africans could come up with a better way of describing how to say it, please help with this
The 16ga buckshot is actually pretty good on class 2-4 animals
I really think we need barrels for the shotguns in COTW, full rifling, rifled chokes, ext. I think that would turn more people (including myself) onto giving them a shake.

FYI zeroing has NO effect on Bridshot and Buckshot. Zero only affects the Slugs.

As someone who often uses buckshot for self defense in vurhonga and Yukon, I can tell you that buckshot is an absolute wildcard, I have seen it struggle to take down a wolf within reasonable time and then absolutely demolish a cape Buffalo with a brain shot, in fact since you don't care about score when you use it, aiming at the head area is ridiculously effective for either and instant kill or a large amount of bleed

I don't go into the woods without 12ga buckshot or a slug, in the game, not so much

Crow in real life buckshot doesn’t expand, so it doesn’t create as much shock. You can’t drop a deer with buckshot, unless it’s point blank.

Something needs to be done with the gunplay in this game, pretty much all the bullets are severely underpowered, I mean a .243 soft point will barely hit vitals on a Lynx! and a .303 British polymer tip will hardly do double lung on a moose, while in real life my .303 easily passed thru a moose with soft points! I love the game, but the weapons class system irks me so bad
