Ralph was a trooper his voice was changing they was tired but hung in there
yh, by that age that key was too high to do full voice,
MusicBlue22 I know that feeling so well.. it's wise to use your falsetto voice when you've been singing hard because then it will start to crack.
YOHAN HENRY MUSiQ not really because that was his range.. his voice was giving out because he was singing to hard on the first song.

Can we all just take a moment and appreciate all this effort from these kids, especially Ralph. His shirt was SOAKED by the end of the performance! All for them not to receive more than $2 for this. So sad. But there music will forever be appreciated! Thank you NE💕
Fashionista Kris Amen! There was no social media our vibe, if you wanted to make it back then, you had to work your butt off on stage, actually performing. They had the work ethic of men three times their age. God bless NE.
Fashionista Kris I wonder if they had gotten paid good, how egos, drugs, etc would have broken them up and killed some of them long ago. Sometimes the struggle makes diamonds.
nuwavegurl Right!
Tori Lee That's true, I believe most of what happen would have remained the same though. Because bobby always wanted to shine and be in the foreground. But I believe them not getting paid early on made them more humble and true to their craft.
Naturalista Kris they were Awesome as kids and still as strong. All because of the great work of Brook.
Just looking at this one clip shows me that they worked the hell out of those kids... Ralph all out of breath...they sweating hard. But they kept pushing. That's why they are so loved today in 2017
Bivins had a grown ass man voice at age 10 lol
BowlesMovement08 I swear I just said that 😂 mayne sounded the same way he sounds now
Cuz he was fuckin
He had the best voice next to Johnny Gill
marion smith not in singing 😂😭
Lol they were like 13-14
Ralph's voice was changing, Ronnie, Ricky, Mike, and Bobby were sweating like they just ran a PT Test - and they kept going! These men are amazing!
That and they were all also tired as hell you can see it in their eyes
True.
How old when Ralph voice started to change after the release of candy girl album 💿 came out to the public?
@@lukeroberts3464 14 or 15
@@krhawkins91 make sense.
Ralph was struggling. It's almost adorable to watch. He skipped several especially high parts on "Popcorn Love" to save his voice.
DTG 143 that right there is SKILL. The fact that at such a young age he worked with what he had blows me away as a singer myself. Ralph Tresvant is a gift.
@@foodieandthecity8343 that little waohohoh he added in was perfect 😂
That baby was working HARD!!! I know it wasn't easy being the LEAD singer.
That was during the time he went thruough that voice change and had to learn his keys all over again
You could tell he was transitioning to his cool it now/mr telephone man voice at this point. You can hear it lol
People nowadays can't even chew gum and tweet at the same time and these young dudes was singing and dancing for over 8 min straight...Ralph voice cracking and shit lol...salute New Edition
everytime I think about these kids getting robbed I get so heated they were innocent kids they didn't know about paperwork and Lawyers and neither did their mom's shit is crazy
that's true....I was even heated when I saw the movie....when it showed the parents...meeting up and talking about all the soldout shows and millions record sales but they were still broke and had a check for a dollar and some change ....I was heated seeing that
I didnt like that either the music industry always took advantage of our people. The sad part was they were kids you know. I am glad that Brook stood by them. And I am glad Michael had the mouth piece into making sure they got paid
Hakim Davis their moms were so money hungry smh but they just wanted to get out the p.js
Hakim Davis
Yes that was sad to watch.😢 They worked hard.
Like: "To blacks in the music industry" how bout to EVERYONE!!! If you only care that it happened to black artists fine, say that, but don't act like it didn't happen to 97% of people in the industry & we're talking huge names.
...those boys are putting in work!
Dwayne Wallace yep working hard for that dollar and change smh
New Edition should inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
One day they will be
Wow. This definitely a classic! Ralph was obviously going through his voice changing stage and did the M.J., Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, falsetto...🍻
My son has finally got through w/ his voice changing phase and i can watch this video w/ special added emotion...Ralph handled it in such a professional manner w/o opting for lipsync.
Jay Tee Keenah81 so true about the added emotion my son is going through it now.
This video highlights why I'll always have so much respect for these guys. So young, so hungry and so talented. They were literally sweating bullets and never lost a step. Ralph showed that he was/is a consummate lead singer, performer and showman. Bobby, Ricky, Ronnie and Mike showed that they were/are consummate performers and showmen. That's why these guys are 50 years old and can still perform like they're 20 years old. I've been a big fan of them since I was a child and over 35 years later, I still am.
I love this soooo much! It's nice to see a live performance from them. And to think they are only about 12 or 13 at this time! This is crazy. So professional, no backing track, no auto tunes, no set.
This definitely looks like a younger performance from them. I was thinking it was '83 because of the songs they were performing and how young they look. I was born in '82 so I have no idea.
Haze Jones Unfortunately, Records labels lie all the time about child artists' ages because it "appeals" more to people. You can even see this example in "The Jackson's: An American Dream" biopic. Young Mj was really 11, but was told to say he was 9 in interviews. So, these boys were truly 15 and 16 in 1983, with the exception of Bobby who was 14. Not denying what was said on their albums back in the day, but...this can be proven by simple math of their birth dates.
Haze Jones yup lol
Haze Jones Ohhh ok I gotcha, so your saying your choosing to believe lies instead of facts. Oh ok...yeah makes PERFECT sense. To each its own😂
Damn, I didn't mean to start anything. I just think they look so cute and young in this performance. And I love that it's actually live.😘
How could you not respect these young men for this fantastic live performance! Ralph's voice was changing, but he still did a great job.... oh, and did you see the eye wink from him at 6:41? Love these guys!
Aww poor Ralph his voice and the others still holding it down😂😂💕
STILL professional!! I love it!!!
Wow these boys worked so hard they was sweating like crazy. Lol Poor Ralph voice was cracking but he was a trooper though.
Lashay Davis I think his voice was just changing , little guy were tired, but he was loving and Ronny was dancing his little heart out. These little fellows were always so professional, each had his on special talent. ❤️💐💙🍼😍💕😘🙏🏾👌🍭👍🍿🎀
@@laesteredicksonwillis23 to talk
Their smiles as they perform express the satisfaction that comes with God's gifts mixed with hard work.
usually you expect some kind of break in between songs but the transition dance choreo they danced even harder??!! mad respect for these kids. watched the biopic and you can see how hard they always worked.
Brooks had them boys hitting all them moves !!! New Edition for life
Looking at this rare video got me to thinking about every blood, sweat (literally) and tears that this young boys put into every performance. They went through a lot! But they really made it big! Congratulations to each and everyone of you! May God continue to bless you guys!!!!
They are making me tired just watching. I know Ralph is exhausted but he is a trooper. They all are.
My boy had to go falsetto on Candy Girl....voice was changing. These fellas were hustling!
#Team Ronnie dancing his heart out.
Enelrad Housley he have no choice dude couldn't sing 💀💀
Almighty 813G stop
poor Ralph his voice going high and low during Candy Girl
John Kinzer I think that's because the tune was too high and at that point his voice was deeper than it used to be. They should've lowered the pitch for him
He was switching from chest voice to head voice. He was still hitting all the notes. He had to use falsetto for the higher notes because his voice was changing NG and because of all the dancing.
those lil dudes were working hard
This is my nightly cardio exercise regimen. Wow Ralph was phenomenal in every way, Great Falsetto Live singing, while doing heavy dancing, hamming for the camera, never out of breath, giving massive vibes, he could of been as big as Michael Jackson. Then again by staying in a group he will always have his bond with his musical brothers in a way that Michael didn't.
They should have lowered the key for them since all of their voices were changing
I think it was really all of the dancing that was causing the issue. But, I expect that when a singer is also a performer. Now, if you're just standing in front of a microphone and singing, you BET NOT miss a note!
LB Not true They’re voices were changing by that time, they didn’t run outta breath when they were dancing
Yea I was just thinking that. Just about every male singer who started young had to adjust things. They were growing into men and singing kiddie songs. Their voices was not having it lol
@@Edward_Strong1982 Bobby hit puberty super fast. Remember, Candy Girl was recorded in the Summer of 1982.
Love this. These boys had moves! Brook Payne was no joke 🕺🏾
i was obsessed with Ralph, and loved me some bobby too. I was suppose to be married to ralph by now lol
Angie JW cdhu I just tweeted that last night he was supposed to be my husband 😂
New Edition are a national treasure.
I go to school, I come straight home...so innocent
me too
I just turned 49 years old; grew up listening to these guys. Love my generation of musical peeps.
This is real talent ! lol they was dancing and sing for hella long. Now in days people just lip sync and hop around
Baychick415
Ralph's pitch was actually on, it was the key that was the problem, but he soldiered through it. They was working hard!
Ahh okay, I was like what’s happening here lol. But man, he must have been exhausted. I can’t imagine being on key with all that dancing.
Wow 83....and I still love them# NE4life..
They still holding it down for real! NE, all day, everyday!
this is when poor little Ralphy's voice was changing. He still gave it his all!
Bobby got rings on each finger u know he was sellin rocks on the low lol.
D-Lo Morton ... According to his book his mama did. 😂 He's the one that always had that stylish urban flavor. The others weren't that flamboyant. 😂
Codycole80
😂😂😂😂
Lmao they dress like 40 year old men
Best ever live New Edition performance.
Today's singers can't do this. Just under 9 minutes of continuous dancing and singing. Pretty amazing.
Stages of puberty live on stage
That's too much dancing...damn...I'm out of breath just watching it....LOL
Shaunte Singleton OMMMFFGG 😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭 GOT ME DEAD!!!
lol you aint never lied
Shaunte Singleton 😂😂😂😂 factz Ralph was tired AF
Landry Austin his voice was even changing. He could barely hit the notes. Poor baby!!!!
Shaunte Singleton ikr I peep tht
So talented ,I'm honored to have been apart of this era.
omg they did two back 2 back songs with all that choreography.... Poor lip Ralph going through puberty onstage at the same time. Respect these professionals.....
#IJS
That's fucked up how we can't go back in time and give them the money they deserved
Okay so clearly Ralph was going through "the change". I hope they were able to recoup there money x 10 over the years.
Wake up Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ... This SUPERGROUP has paid their 25 years plus in the game dues & have earned that spotlight. It's time to show respect NE's craft, talent & legacy.
Who's idea was it to have em do these routines BACK 2 BACK, singin LIVE??? My GOSH! I feel like passin out just watchin!! And bless his heart, my baby's voice was changing...Loved you then, Love you now...
They sound so good. Dancing, Singing and sounding JUST LIKE THE RECORD! True professionals at a tender age. Go Young Kings! 🎤👑🎤
Ralph is the cutest one to me💙💜
OMG!!!! Ralph 😍😍😍😍😍. He was such a great performer and gave his all. All of them sang great. Thanks for uploading this!!!!
Real talent and pride in your craft. Loved New Edition since the 80's.
Thank you!!! Many people who are not true fans are under the impression that Ronnie and Mike were just "there" taking up space. But I know their voices and they contributed to the group just as much as Bobby, Ralph, Ricky and Johnny!
If you watch Bobby you can already see he's set apart from the rest to some extent
the incredible thing is they can do the exact thing today ...thats crazy how many others can say that ...Not many ...just incredible
..I was from 83 on .#NELEGENDARYSTATUS no doubt #ROCKHALL
Imagine all this performing and no money at the end ?!??
Scopps94 right...hell they received more from the talent shows and even when they split the winnings it was still more than that 1.87 check smmfh
Awww they were so adorable and talented; I sure felt for Ralph having to sing lead and dance all that time and watching the movie made them feel like my own family getting so underpaid for this
This is what $1.87 split five ways looks like. Poor guys working so hard, they don’t know any better.
Today's artists don't know the definition of 'hard work'
New Edition, and others back in the 80's and 90's, they earned their success, and deserved it !!
I meant "A STANDING OVATION". I absolutely love New Edition. Lot's of good feelings and memories I obtained from these gentlemen!!!!
GOT DAMN DID THEY HAVE THE AIR ON AT LEAST THEM BOYS WAS UP THERE DROPPING POUNDS
It's hard to dance and sing at the same time. And they had these boys dance non stop
Ralph is a little out of breath, that's why he's singing in falsetto on Candy Girl, it's hard being lead singer, you really never have time to catch your breath, add this with their signature dance choreography, and it's a real.challenge, but still a great job
Ralph always sang falsetto before puberty set in. You mean that is why he was singer deeper, because he was tired.
Yeah the shortness of breath he was experiencing definitely affected his singing, but as far as falsetto singing, Ralph had a naturally high voice, an especially before puberty set in, that's when a boys voice has even changed yet, that wasn't falsetto that was his voice, just like MJ he was blessed with a high singing voice for a male
But you are right he was tired which made him sing more falsetto, had to watch it again, been a minute since I saw vid, your right Stonedog23
No ralph sang in his regular voice in candy girl! It's just his voice was higher and didn't change yet! Because his voice was higher he was able to hit those crazy high notes without falsetto! In this video he had to use his falsetto because his voice was changing and he couldn't hit the notes anymore!
+Stonedog23 NO DUDE. Ralph's natural high voice before puberty killed it lol
absolutely & all true ! Ralph spoke about this full detail in a interview about the convo he had with Bobby after he was fired...in their recording contract with MCA, they had the opted solo clause in which any member could exercise their right to record a solo album...Bobby said in a interview that Rizz was really the one who aided in his solo vision and even gave him the dancers he was gonna use for his project: Heart & Soul
These Cats were destined to make it. That organization, discipline and focus! BIG props to Brook Payne. There would be no NE without him.
Even in 2022, New Edition are perfect performers with incredible precision, and stage presence! 💜
This obsession I have with being young again and making out with Rizz has got to stop
Ralph did the right choice to not singing the high "Ive Been thinking" parts, he was a professional at that young age
yea he did da right choice but das my favorite part 😓 other den dat dance dey do before it gets to the thinking part
You go, Ralph!! I love how he remained confident throughout the performances. all of that dancing while singing will really tire you out.
This performance is priceless. Young NE is killing it.
Bobby sound good on that vamp on Popcorn Love.
This is something every young entertainer should watch to see how it’s done. This shows hard work and professional work to give you your money’s worth. Watch these kids a learn. Dedication and perfection at such a young age. Geary Job guys and still doing it after more than 30 years. Black Boys greatness
New edition are legendary!
B.brown pop locking tho. Ring on damn near every finger lol. He did that 👍🏾
Rick was sssooooo underrated
first time in 30 years that i've heard Mike actually attempt to sing!!!! That's right, Mike show them you're not just a rapper
For their age they were insane performers.
Time to set the record straight for those who don't know the New Edition Vocal Set-Up
Ralph Tresvant - Lead Singer/2nd Tenor
Bobby Brown - 2nd Lead Singer/2nd & sometimes 1st Tenor
Ricky Bell - 3rd Lead Singer/1st, 2nd Tenor & Baritone
Ronnie Devoe - 2nd Tenor/Baritone & Occasional lead
Michael Bivins - Baritone/Bass & Occasional lead
DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE SPEAKING ON WHO CAN'T SING
They are so cute,super-talented & always fun to watch 🤗🤗
Bobby!Bobby!Bobby! Sing Babyyy! I was obsessed with Bobby in the 80s and 90s and still love him today. He is my NE Man Crush. I know Whitney was his wife, but I wanted and fantasized about that Fine, Handsome, Sexy man. 😍😍😍💕❤❤❤
awwwh Bobby lil chocolate self sound soooo cute
LeBron's Hairline your username is hilariously
DJaySplitSecond i know
Lol little chocolate self so funny
djw80158 y i gotta be all dat?
Anthony Kelly
that music industry is so wicked they touch advantage of these kids.
I never get tired of seeing this. Wish we all could remain young.
iricaja same yo. Same.
And I thought the running man came out in 1987...they are doing it all day here back in 1983-1984!
Bobby should have sung lead here as his voice hasn’t changed since the original release of these songs. The right thing to do was to play the music in a lower key. But that cost money and that was not gonna happen. Regardless Ralph soldiered through. NE Forever!
Entertainment at its finest. Was so in love with Bob.
Poor Ralph! He couldn't hit those notes anymore and you see how hard he was trying to! But Biv legit sounded like grown ass man at the age of 12,13 😂
You can hear cit it in most of there voices how much deeper they were getting. Puberty sucks at first.
Poor babies were HOT!!! All that work to get robbed blind...smh. I can also see now how they were really pushing Ralph to be center of attention. Classic! ❤NE
They need some water tho 😂
Bobby tha only nigga who looks younger now than then! Bwhaaaa
Damn them boyz had the heartz of men to work like that!Too much for that age, also ripped off!Rock & Roll hall of fame immediately!
they working the shit outta the lil dudes
William Brooks Yup and sent them on their the way at the end with a dollar and some change. SMH.
Nothing but pure talent, God blessed these young men.
Boy, I was sooo crazy about N.E back in the day. Remember going to my New Edition concert back in "88!" One of the best teen concerts ever!!!!!
Bobby voice was so young here, " the r the n our love will never end." But his voice was pretty good, and similar to Ralph's early on. Also Mike and Ronnie could sing, they both sang the song "Happy Holidays" on the Christmas album, and killed it.
Thanks for posting. This is the type of footage all New Edition fans Crave!
I'm feeling the same way Ralph, I need you in every kind of way. You said it.
bless it his voice was changing and they know he couldn't hit them notes
Stormee MoonCraig He could definitely hit the notes. His voice is in and out because they had performed more songs than those 2 shown here... See how they are sweating by the 2nd song? All the dancing moving and LIVE singing had him exhausted... Poor baby voice was tired 😞 This shit is hurtful to watch... Poor babies
Ha ha ha, they were on their way out of childhood by this point! So wholesome!
I love the fact that they just got regular, everyday clothes on. Like something they'd wear to church or something. This is real music. Just solid talent, no hype, no flash.
