    It must have hurt to hear Dick Clark say that with so many records sold they could not just go to the movies but they could buy a movie theater, knowing full well that when the sun went down that day, they went back home to their project apartments and had earned nothing more than $1.87 after having sold a double platinum album...and Mike clearly lied when he said they have arguments but don't physically fight when they physically fought often (The New Edition Story (2017) on BET! Poor kids....used and abused by a crooked producer and record company. Thank God they persevered!!!

      Unfortunately this is the same sad story for most young Black Artist. Far too many times are these young artist robbed though lack of knowledge about the business, even by people that look like them. Sharks are everywhere in any business, trust no one. Fortunately now you can pretty much do everything on your own it just take passion, hard work, commitment, and conviction to see it through.

    It's interesting to compare this Telephone Man with an appearance they made on Soul Train about a year earlier. Bobby is showing out on this one, while the earlier show is pretty ordinary. It might have been painful at times, and I'm sure the movie will show how much, but Bobby pushed his own career and theirs to greater heights. And everything happens for a reason. Johnny became part of the crew, in a few years we also get BBD, and it seems that all fences are mended now with age and wisdom. God bless all these guys. They sure represent a time in a lot of our lives and that's not a small thing.

    • @almasasser488
      @almasasser488 Před 4 lety +8

      @@squireboi318, Even though Ricky might have had a better voice, Ralph had the voice, the height, the looks (The whole package), and the girls related more to him than anyone in the group. That is what a record company wants in a lead vocalist, "The one that is more marketable" for their company. Plus be someone that can pull in fans and critics alike. Ricky was/is a singer, Ralph is a singer/entertainer/showman that's not afraid to go all over the stage and get down out front to serenade the fans. There are 4 great singers in NE, Ralph was just the one that had the it factor.

    • @squireboi318
      @squireboi318 Před 4 lety +7

      Alma Sasser I get what ur saying and not disagreeing at all. But in that day in time Ralph was pushed more to the front bcuz of his complexion, so let’s call it what it is. All them were taught the same moves and pretty much would of been the same driving force had they been marketed to sing lead!{well the guys that could actually sing Ricky &Bobby}But if we’re talking about it factors and showmanship Bobby ran circles around Ralph and it showed! Nevertheless Ralph is great tho!

Again, 47 years old and I damn near cried like a baby when they did “Jealous Girl” (with Bob on the lead) and “Is This The End”……(almost during “My Secret Didja Gitit Yet”)….Ronnnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph, and Johnny too…thank you for being such a staple of my childhood to adulthood…much love from San Jose, Bay Area ✌🏼

    I'm 40 now. I was 2 going on 3 when this song came out. I remember being 4 or 5 and looking at the album cover this song was on. I had a crush on New Edition at that young of an age. I loved this song as a little little kid. This song brings me back to when life was so so simple. I always sing it with all my heart. ❤
    I also love that Ronnie said they'd want to do this until they're like 80. I saw them in concert a week ago in Chicago for The Culture Tour 2022. These guys are now in their 50s and it was one of the best concerts I ever been to. I wish them wealth and healthy and even more longevityto perform until in their 80s. It's so funny that they did most of the same dance moves at the concert as they did in this live performance for Mr. Telephone Man. I love it! They are legends! They need to be in The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. 👏🏿❤

      Rocky Balboa Bobby didn't fizzle Whitney stopped him from performing cos she was too jealous and did t trust him and so he went out at the top. But he had so much more in him! He gave it up for love I guess! Now even though they all had solo careers Bobby became a superstar! Only bell biv devoe came close in their solo effort to Bobby! What I love is that they were second only to the Jackson five as pioneers and influenced new kids and *NSYNC and backstreet among other lesser knowns. And yet they all went back and lived in Boston. Also after Whitney died and Bobby was being villified by the media and even coast for whitneys drug use ( tho as most of us knew she was already doing coke and freebasing with her brother and he eventually introduced her to crack ( as Whitney bro said publicly on Oprah interview sitting next to his mom.) but Cissy and Clive Davis were creating the Whitney personages. In hshe's just a girl from around the way in New Jersey. I also like the lack of scandal from them and
      That they fight like true brothers but they're loyal and love each other as true bros. "nobody hates like family"
      Mike B was sexpalis and abt his bff Bi by

    The New Edition Story (2017) aired on BET is what brought me here! It boggles my mind to know that by the time they appeared on this show, amongst soooo many other arguments and fights, Mike spat in Bobby's face and tried to stab him with a pair of scissors which prompted the group to decide whether or not to fire Mike from the group; and, because Bobby said he didn't die from the altercation, he didn't want Mike out. So Mike stayed and hence, we have one of the best R&B groups of all time! Thanks for posting the video....I thoroughly enjoyed watching it!!!

      Because they are a lot of reasons why Bobby Brown as one of the most natural, God gifted entertainers in history and New Edition, by far the greatest Pop/RNB group of all time don't get the credit they deserve including being victims of their time in the 80's as opposed to a decade later in the 90's.
