  • Installing a two piece toilet quick and easy. Follow these step-by-step instructions and you'll have your new American Standard toilet up and running in no time.
    Tools: chisel, adjustable wrench, Philips head screwdriver, painters tape/rag
    0:00 Un-installing
    0:48 Step 1: Shut off water supply. Then empty tank and toilet of water.
    1:48 Step 2: Disconnect water line and loosen nuts and bolts on both sides, allowing you to remove the tank.
    2:10 Step 3: After removing the tank, loosen nuts and bolts from the base. Then pull the base out, and plug the hole so nothing comes in or out.
    2:50 Step 4: Slide and pull T-bolts out. Then use your chisel to cleanly take the old wax ring off.
    Installing the base-
    3:30 Step 5: Insert new T-bolts and firmly press the new wax ring onto the base of the toilet.
    4:26 Step 6: Take the rag out and carefully drop the base down with the T-bolts coming through the holes on each side.
    5:00 Step 7: Press the base down so the wax ring seals, and hand tighten the provided nuts onto the T-bolts. Use the caps to cover the nuts and bolts.
    Installing the tank
    5:30 Step 8: Connect the provided gasket to the tank and place the tank on top of the base. Tighten each side while alternating from each side to keep the tank balanced.
    6:45 Step 9: Connect the supply line and turn on the water. Place the top of the tank on.
    7:15 Step 10: Install the toilet seat and you are done!

    This is an excellent instructional video & the gentleman in it is a Hoot of an instructor/actor. I am hoping that the installation of my American Standard 2 piece Cadet 3 Right Height toilet is as easy as this guy makes it. If it is, I'll be giving myself a huge pat on the back & maybe go buy myself a new power tool. I am not only the woman of the house, but I am also the Maintenance Woman!

    This was an extremely helpful video and we had no problem installing the American Standard toilet--except the bolt/nut set that came with the toilet seat was the wrong ones. They were not the same ones in the instructions. The white plastic bolts had a “wing” on one side that I had to cut off with wire cutters. After I got that off, I was able to tighten down the toilet seat.

    Thanks, good walkthrough for something we might do every "X" number of years. Step-by-step, you nailed it. SOME PARTS may appear in different colors (like, my tank flange was black, his was blue). For the novice out there: I would suggest grabbing an extra wax ring for $3 if you've never done this before b/c you'll think you missed the poop pipe (maybe it was just me); I shredded the first one, they mold pretty quickly once there's some pressure on them. UNIQUE TO ME (I'm sure): Also, my flange bolts (when it was originally installed) didn't have retainers on them so they just spun once they were almost at the end of the bolt (so, almost off). To get them off and to stop them from spinning on themselves (because they're shaped in such a way that they shouldn't really do this), I wedged some needle nose under the nut, creating upward pressure and used a pair of pliers (using pliers vertically) to back the nuts off. This was probably very unusual and maybe due to how it was installed (unless they didn't use retainers on the flange bolts 15 years ago). And again, great instruction (thanks).

    Can I ask how to get rid of wobble? I suspect the old toilet had a much narrower wax ring and I should just keep monitoring the two bolts and keep tightening every other day until it’s flush to the floor? Or do you recommend that I remove and replace with a thinner ring?

    • @americanstandard
      @americanstandard  Před 3 lety

      Hi Brian! This depends on where the toilet closet flange is. Is it flush with the floor? Or above the floor, and if so how much? We recommend keeping the flange flush to the floor, no more than 1/8” above it. You could also try a thinner wax ring, but it has a lot to do with flange height. • @americanstandard
      @americanstandard  Před 3 lety

      Hi Jesse - On some of our tank to bowl kits, a rubber tee grommet is used in place of the old style standard washer. This grommet goes through the tank bolt hole and the bolt goes through the grommet. When the nut is tightened to attach the tank to the bowl, the nut pushes the “stem” of the rubber grommet up as the nut tightens on the bolt. This helps to form a seal inside and below the tank. Hope that helps! If we can further assist, please give us a call at 800-442-1902. Thanks!

The bolts start off already seemingly installed in the tank (I'd like to know what gaskets/rings and fasteners might be used there) and after hand-tightening bolts it seems another plastic washer and bolt were added on each side. I will need to keep searching. I must say that I am disappointed at the American Standard people for their instructions overall.

      It was unclear regarding the large flaired rubber casing the huge tank bolt fit through. Finally concluded intentional. But it is not covered nor mentioned.

    you should mention things like if you didn't get the nylon nuts for the bowl install or the nylon wrench for the water closet install, what do you do and what if you don't get china to china contact, but instead it feels tight, but the waster closet still rocks back and forth, what have you done incorrectly. What do I do with the cone shaped rubber washer thing in my parts bag. and what should I do if I didn't get the extra high caps for the base bolts, and they stick up too high and don't have the easy break section to size them properly? But don't worry about my wobbly base, someone else made a video for that. would you like me to tell you if it was informative and useful?

    The tank to bowl gasket is so thick theres no way there will be china to china contact. Or then I'm botching it somehow

      You fit it as best you can and you tighten it which will compress the gasket and you might have you’re contact after that. As long as you lined it up to the best of you’re ability and your tank doesn’t rock you’re good 👍

      Ya and doing this wrong causes thousands in damages every year lol imo if ur not a plumber this ends badly maybe 20% of the time where u get a slow leak into the sub floor and ends up destroying your house
