- This 3D medical animation of torn knee meniscus repair begins with an orientation of the knee joint, the medial and lateral meniscus, and the free-floating cartilage in the joint space. Prior to surgery, the joint is prepared by filling it with fluid. Afterwards and arthroscope and a surgical tool are inserted to visualize and repair the torn meniscal cartilage, respectively.

This Miniscus Tear has stopped me from doing anything normal, I hate the pain so much, everytime when I walk it hurts
I feel you, my knee locks up every time and i can't even squat down without my knee giving me a terrible burning sensation, I'm going into surgery for it in 2 weeks.
@@Sophia-bm9ch Wish you the best of luck my friend, I'm still fretting on if I should have Surgery done to it, considering my Doctor told me the Tear was minimal and should in a way gradually heal itself

Good 3D simulation of partial meniscectomy, thank you for this video...
As an orthopaedic surgeon, I always try, when possible, to perform rather a meniscal repair by suture than a partial meniscectomy, in order to provide a better long term prognosis to the patient.

Very cool animation on knee arthroscopy surgery!
If anyone is scared, i have had 2 ACL surgerys and both times required meniscal repairs. The first op, due to severe damage, had to remove 50 percent of it. The 2nd they have stitched back together due to keeping my knee relatively healthy. My advice for anyone is to prehab and lose weight, its what i done for my 2nd op as opposed to the first and jts saved my knee
Thanks. Hope you’re doing well.
Mine is scheduled for about a month from now.
Can’t wait to be able to walk again.
Did you have general anesthesia? The video says that’s rare but it’s what the orthopedist said he’d do. Maybe things are different a decade later.

@@ajeetlokhande1186 nothing to be scared of, if anything the anesthetic is to definitely be enjoyed! As for the recovery afterwards; I couldn't put any weight on my first knee due to them creating a blood clot to full a divot in the end of my leg bone. They took a piece of my hamstring and used thst as my ACL - actual recovery time for that is longer but rehab is so much easier. The 2nd time they used my patellar tendon and could only partially weight bare. The knee is better with the patellar as is recovery but the rehab is harder and scar healing a lot more painful. Please bare in mind these were just my experiences, but please don't feel scared, there is a small relief when you know the surgery's complete and you can begin the actual recovery process. All the best, everything will be okay.

My own injury brought me here… it’s very impressive to see how they did surgery on my knee

How was your recovery ?
@@mc1618 it was a long road to recovery. I think i had physiotherapy for around 1.5 years, but right now i’m doing well.
I had the same operation about 8 years ago.
However, I still have a Bakers Cyst that fills up in the area behind my knee.
The cyst doesn't protrude but I can't bend down fully with that knee so I'm assuming that there must be excess fluid trapped there.
From the little I know, the extra synovial fluid that is created is because of the meniscus tear.
I must still have a tear or what is left of my meniscus was too damaged to repair.
My only relief is to be active, the more active I am the less irritation I have with the knee.
Its never sore as such, just feels uncomfortable and I don't have the same power in that leg as a result.
It is also on my dominant side, the side your brain will always tell you to step off on.
Good video.. my surgery is next couples weeks.. I feel like I need this surgery

Hello! I hope you are doing well. I recently got my MRI results, and it mentioned a grade 3 tear at the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. The report also states that the ACL is not adequately seen. There's no joint effusion. I'm quite worried and hesitant about surgery. Can this be fixed through physiotherapy and a knee immobilizer? I really want to explore alternatives to surgery. Your insights would mean a lot to me during this challenging time. Thanks in advance for your help.
I’m considering getting the surgery done… already did physical therapy and didn’t help much. Had a cortisone shot too, but also have OA… so I def need to do something about my pain. Obvi kinda scared - not sure if there’s another option out there 🤷🏼♀️

i split my meniscus in half last summer from wrestling and didn’t know it. i thought i just pulled a tendon on the side of my knee so i brushed it off for pretty much the whole school year and after the season when i didn’t even make the varsity lineup for districts i went to the doctor and they said i tore my meniscus. so i got surgery and a few days ago i saw the MRI and my meniscus was in 2 pieces and i looked at the doctor and just asked how i was even able to perform on the level i did without having to sit out. (i went to nationals and trained with olympic members multiple times that summer with it torn 🥲) and he said he didn’t even know. i still have no idea how i was able to do any of that. but after the surgery and i’m almost able to walk it feels a world better now. i never thought my knee could feel this good, it still hurts but i can bend it and stuff now without it feeling like my knees gonna pop.

Wait, so is meant to repair the meniscus, or is it merely a step in the overall treatment? You're technically removing more meniscus, so can someone explain how it actually helps?
What's the cost of this method?
I have the same problem but... I haven't done any surgery yet. I met an Orthopedic Doctor and he told me to keep my knee at 90 degree angles or straight at all the time. I asked him about the surgery he said they don't heal so well in 10-15 years I will go back to square one. Hello, here is Korea 2 years ago I had surgery to suture the right meniscus medial root 2 years ago. It ruptured again in the same place on July 30. The suturing operation was successful 2 years ago, but I think the suture without improving the body imbalance led to the overall muscle imbalance. When the stiffness of the hip joint or the stiffness of the right shoulder is relieved, the left and right balance feels like the knee pain is there, but the overall balance feels better. Do I need surgery again? The inner part of the cartilage plate is said to be difficult to regenerate because there are no blood vessels, but I've heard that it can be regenerated with synovial fluid. What do you think? And I wonder if it is right for the overall muscle balance to deteriorate after surgery without correcting the body imbalance.

I too believe in preserving as much meniscus as possible but something has got to be done with this knee, it’s destroyed my life/mobility. Got the news today and don’t know how to best proceed.
@@carlorocky i also had a bucket handle meniscus tear while playing badminton and had a partial menisectomy. For some tears surgery is necessary as mu menicus had flipped between my knee joint and i was not able to straighten my knee. However minor tears may recover itself.Best way to determine is to get an Mri.
My meniscus show degeneration after MRI. Do I need to do arthroscopic surgery. I don't know degeneration vs meniscus tear, any ideas?
Biker Saif I think I have the same injury as you. I can walk on it after 1 month but still swollen and can’t fully extend my knee still . What where your symptoms?
...had a left knee partial meniscectomy February 2019... fast forward to June 2020 now I'm waiting for right knee meniscectomy...and left knee meniscectomy revision for a re tear aswell as articular cartilage damage (partial thickness loss)
Oh so that’s what I had instead of the ACL tear 😨
I have two stitches by the way
Same here. From the initial MRI pics it said it had a verticle Meniscus tear but surgeon deemed other wise so hoping he was right.
Similar case with me, but they thought I had a full ACL tear on MRI but it was just a severe tear in the cartilage (which had to be done in the surgery) and a dent in the ACL, which can be somewhat manageable... I did lose a lot of blood from it... so recovery was a heck of a nightmare...
@@Hums97 how are you feeling now after surgery? Does your knee feel like it did before the injury?
Goodbye knee welcome arthiritis within 5 to 10 years after surgery
Why is that??
@@geniusqanii4797 cause you’re removing a crucial piece of cushion so bone rubs on bone more frequently. i had this surgery, then i had to have a microfracture surgery, and now i need a full replacement. it’s a pain reliever at best but more than likely means more surgery in the future
@@nokomisnorth8409 and never do the surgeons explain this
It’s always the left knee 🤦♂️
Having surgery on the 7th, they need to knock my ass out
How was it? Mines tmrw
@@bronkaydolley8814 I'm in so much pain still. My doc said my surgery is hybrid? Because it's a microfracture and a weird meniscus tare. What is yours for
What’s it like now I don’t know if I should get surgery should I ?
@@kfa5266 to me it's painful but that's to be expected though.(they give you meds. but I hate pills) I just had my 2nd surgery and might need another one. Good luck to you, I think you will be ok💙
@@brookelynnkeele6841 thank you
I had it done 2 years ago when i was 19 under general anesthesia, they didnt do anything because the doctor said where i tore my meniscus there was some blood flow, so he decided to leave it alone to heal by itself
How did it heal??
@@vanessajuarez9693 it healed alright but i still have some trouble squatting or just kneeling for long periods
@@RonaldoTheBoss how long did it take for you to recover?
@@vanessajuarez9693 well i got hurt in june & wasnt able to return to work till November, but so many things played a part in a long recovery, like insurance, doing therapy twice before surgery and after...
@@RonaldoTheBoss Ah okay i see what you mean. One more question.. why did you have to have this done if you don't mind me asking, or how did you hurt yourself??
Khris Middleton a beast if he come back next game
I have an acl tear and a meniscus tear. Because I’m 14, I’m still growing and can’t do the acl surgery until I’m around 18 so I can’t fucking play sport for 4 years
I’m sorry. I had to take a year off in hs- I got into non sports for distraction- go to pt and do what you can
