I don't need to see Reg's face to know here is a fine Musician providing a wealth of highly valuable help . So very generous. And so very inspiring. I only hope that one day I might get to see him and his band perform live.
I SAW YOUR FACE!!!! YOU LOOK NOTHING LIKE HOW I THOUGHT YOU WOULD! I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LOOK CLEAN SHAVEN AND SHIT!!! oh and your playing and videos have always been my favorite thing in the world!
Very supreme performance ! I have finally found out your face on the screen. But I don't know your name yet. Would you let me know your name or let me know the title of the CD or the DVD in which you performed the guitar as I would like to buy either or both of these? I am waiting for your early response. Best regards, Takeshi Ishihara
If the vi is played as a dominant, should you really focus on playing a dominant that resolves to a I minor (fifth mode of MM works very well) ? The thing is, I'm sure that most bebop guys back in the day had no concept of this, were they just playing dominant and then shifting the notes on the fly?
I'm not sure if i understand your question. Dominant chords can resolve to a minor tonic chord, that was the main reason why the harmonic minor scale was invented.

Can anyone explain what he means when he says “this is the 5 of 2”. It looks like he’s playing key of Bb where F7 would be the 5 but when he says 5 of 2 it looks the 2 is still Cm but the 5 moves to what looks like G7
NoDontBugMe It’s kinda exactly what it sounds like. He is playing in Bb, so the 5 of 2 means he’s playing the 5 of the second chord in the key. So in Bb the 5 of 2 is G7 because the 2 chord is Cm and the 5 of that is G7. Kinda weird but that’s what it is! You could also think of it as taking the 6 chord in the key (Gm) and making in a seventh chord. That’s a really easy way to think about it. Overall, this is a really common thing to do in jazz because of how it sounds. Hope this makes some sort of sense 😜🙏🏼
If you take the normally Minor vi chord of the key and substitute a dominant 7 chord of the same name (A7 for Am7) then it is the dominant chord a fifth above the ii chord. The chord is 5th above regardless, but making it dominant is like a temporary key change.
Your playing is exactly how i want to be able to play but i can't understand half the stuff your saying just from a lack theoretical knowledge I know all the modes but only really by shape and I want to move to that next level of understanding and awareness around what i am actually playing. Any tips? Thanks
M2AX I can work out what’s going on with the chords just from playing them and then comparing them to the normal chord shapes and I’d imagine you could do the same with his lead playing but I’m not good enough to play that fast
Exactly - Much too fast and rambling. More like somebody giving a running commentary on what they're doing than a lesson, although I like the playing...

Great stuff man
I'll have to use this for Anthropology. I've been focussing the actual chord tones.
cool, spot on
Best to study this at .25x speed for mere mortals like us.😎🎸
Super!
Did you listen to Benson a lot? i can hear so much of his phrasing in you're playing . Really great stuff man!
At 8:58: "And I hope and pray that they will, but today, I am still just a bill". Anyone catch that melody in there? :)
Tearin it up
Fantastic playing! What guitar is that?
Tasty!
Looks like a Guild Artist Award Model.
Way to simplify rythm changes
Hi Reg, I came to your videos through the guitar.be forum. Nice to put a voice to the posts! Whats the guitar? Very deep looking body from this angle.

@M2AX hahahaahahaha
do you have an website, or do online lessons
+Matt Tatum, he's a regular contributor at the jazzguitar.be forum. That's what these videos are about. Don't think he reads youtube comments.. :-)
Takeshi Ishihara
Shredder
He doesn’t respond to people’s questions so do any of you know what Guitar brand and model this is?
It's a Guild Artist Award, with something custom in the neck... NOT cheap!
This is the most intense lesson I have Ever seen. Lots of cool tips but too fast. Does anyone take this tips and tell in a better Wayne?
Exactly - Much too fast and rambling. More like somebody giving a running commentary on what they're doing than a lesson, although I like the playing...
This is top-deck jazz. You need to know the basics of ii-V and its subs. Otherwise you can slow down the video to your own pace. Cheers!!
If you cant keep up, you need to do your homeworks and come back
Gorgeous playing. Not really a lesson.
wikichris Definitely a lesson. He's even teaching with words. Not sure how you missed that :/
