That entirely depends on what style you’re looking for. He’s kinda genre busting… you’ve got hi Ren under your belt, and have a good example of his rap abilities… maybe go for ‘The Big Push - I shot the sheriff/road to Zion/hip hop’ mash up. It’s live on the street in Brighton, and gives you a good idea of his singing and guitar abilities.
He's a musical chameleon, so there's something for everyone in his catalogue. But since sound design is your thing, Sick Boi might be a good next step.
I would say Money Game part 2. This is my first time catching your channel, and just thought I'd throw that one out there. One of my personal favorites by Ren. It speaks volumes to the current state of socioeconomic differences in the world, through a simple "nursery rhyme" explanation so everyone can understand the state of the world and how these mega corporations are structured to keep people inpovertywhilst continually making massive profits. The production, as with all of Ren's productions, is top knotch, as always. I'm definitely subbing to your channel and looking forward to more of your content.
Ren x Chinchilla Chalk Outline ( amazing vocals, lyrics, chemistry), Tale of Jenny, Screech Full Trilogy ( mesmerising Bardcore, 3 x one take magic), Losing It retake ( EDM as it should be) more, more etc
Dude , I didn't want your reaction to be over . So much fun to hear it from a sound technicians perspective. This is how you can watch a reaction, and a breakdown, and learn something. I love how you gave Ren his due for creating something different !
Ren is one of those once in a generation Artist that truly "gets" music. You literally never know what he's going to put out next. He's so multi dimensional. He sometimes posts IG stories of him producing and writing new material and it's just genius. He also said he's been busking since he was 12 years old and he released this song 3 days ago on his 33rd birthday! 😳 Great reaction, please do more! P.S. I'm sure someone has already mentioned but the title is a double entendre because Ren is battling multiple chronic illnesses and autoimmunity. He's getting intensive treatment and surgeries in Canada right now so he can get everything under control enough to live a somewhat normal life. A big chunk of his catalog is him singing or rapping about his frustrations with his health issues.
Ren must be the most reacted to musician on CZcams currently. The King of Bardcore seems to be able to do anything despite of or because of his Lyme Disease/severe health history. You should do the Trilogy next - Jenny, Screech and Violet’s Tales - wonderful story telling, not rap and plenty of classical twiddling on the nylon strings
@@dicodec I'm rewatching this after watching you're reaction to "Sick Boi" and I just gotta say, thank you for explaining to me what it is I love about this song. I'd really love for you to check out his other material. I'm guessing that the older songs may not reach this level of sound production. I don't. I'd like your opinion because I respect your opinion. And even if the sound isn't as great, the songs and performances are as brilliant as anything I've heard in 56 years.
Ren is not backed by some big name..but he knows what to do and how to do it along with those he knows for EG: Song written, performed, produced and directed by Ren Additional mixing/mastering - Frederik Moller Cinematographer - Samuel Perry-Falvey First A.C. - Joshua styles Lighting - Jacob Neller very talented full stop.
Ren: "Overhwlemed by the amount of support for illest Of Our Time. Have been loving watching all the reaction videos and hearing everyone's interpretation. I never usually break down my own words because I love letting people apply their own meaning, but there was one line I wanted to explain. The title of the song. Alot of people took this to mean "The greatest Of Our Time" "Look for all the answers that I never seem to find, Till then I guess I'm still the illest of our time" Its my reluctance to be the illest - the clue is in the word 'guess' - ive spent the better part of a decade looking for solutions to the damage lyme disease dealt with countless doctors visits, and am still in that boat. "Illest" can also mean "dopest" "best" etc. So it's a bit of a double entendre. Same as "Sick boi" This theme is repeated with the line "elementary dear Watson you might find" cause Sherlock Holmes was always searching for the clues to piece the puzzle together, which is very relatable when trying to piece together parts of a very complex health picture, anyone with a very complex illness will relate to almost having to become your own detective. And finally "A pathologic entity - if everything is set in stone then this is how its meant to be" Acceptance that this might just be the cards I've been dealt." ~ Posted by Ren on his community page

Salutations to a fellow RENegade! ❤ I swear, I keep picking up new pieces out of this. Like, how much rap do you hear with a cyberpunk-feeling synth keyboard backing? If all you know is Hi Ren and The Tale of Jenny & Screech or Chalk Outlines, I can see how you'd not be expecting him to start dropping bars and switching up the flow. All the more impressive for knowing he produces all his own beats. This track is the most 🔥he's dropped, yet, but he's got a great selection of other rap/hiphop tracks that are all absolutely worth the watch and reaction. Losing It. The Hunger. Power. What You Want. Genesis. And the track he released right before this one goes just as hard: Sick Boi ~ Peace 🕊
@dicodec I recommend genesis the drum and bass mix. He does some interesting with DnB that seems unique but I can't figure out what...or maybe didn't listen to enough drum and bass to know any better😊
Something I’ve discovered is that heaps of Rens tracks have words, flows or references that he uses throughout his other tracks, it’s like stepping stones through his collections, it’s very unique. I’m loving your Ren reactions and can’t wait to see you react to more Ren!
Rap side- The Hunger, Losing it, Genesis, Love music 2 and 3. Money Game 2 is good also. Definitely need to check out: I shot the sheriff cover live version with Road to Zion and Hip hop.. that will blow your mind. The list goes on and on with his older stuff.
He's awesome, right? This is not even my type of music, but everything he does is riveting. As to what to break down next, well, that depends on what type of song you want as he genre hops all over the place (so sad that you didn't record for 'Hi Ren' as that would have been awesome!) Anyway, 'Sick Boi' sort of follows on from 'Hi Ren', but it's in a different style. For his story genius? 'The Tale of Jenny and Screech FULL' (a trilogy of songs which need to be watched together and in sequence. Ren very helpfully put them in one video on his channel). For beautiful vocals, 'Chalk Outlines', and for seeing him busk on the streets of Brighton with his band, his Bob Marley mash up of 'I shot the Sheriff/ Zion/ Hip Hop' I've been waiting for you to react to Ren. Sorry I had to leave the Patreon, but funds are almost non-existent. Hoping to start them back up when this cost of living crap eases up!
My suggestion is to do them all. They are all different and amazing. He is a creative genius with a massive toolbox. I really loved the way you isolated those beats and I would like to see more of that with his catalogue. Subbed for more of your reactions to REN
On top of all of things ren is able to do musically his is and has been sick with limes disease. (He was signed by a record company but got dropped after getting too sick) He was originally diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (aka ME) and some mental health issues. Due to his many physical and mental health problems he got put on a chemical kitchen full of pills. None of them helped cause he had limes not ME. So while he was being treated for that the limes attacked him physically and mentally. Finally after almost a decade of misdiagnosis he got the correct answer and a stem cell transplant. He started to feel much better. Unfortunately the damage was done. Currently he is in Canada receiving more care to hopefully reverse, prevent or reduce and more damage. He is expected to be there for up to a year.
I watched some reacciones of Ren and don’t get me wrong, lyrics are bombastic, but finally FINALLY somebody is breaking down the production, because it’s sick, what makes me go crazy too is on 8:30 (in your video) straight after “never second guessing, intuition getting wise” this little Melody, arpeggiator or what it is and then the final drop before the end…urghhh….what a production. So many things going on, but everything is on spot. THANKS a lot for your video…new fan and follower here….
Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed you reacting to the totally different layer of Rens songs. The background sounds. Whiso fascinate me. Ren's songs have so many well thought and creative layers to them on top of the lyrics ( which are so much fun to try to figure out all the meanings to) I believe he truly is an artistic genius.
F**kin amazing breakdown man, love how you can isolate the different layers of a track and take your analysis so deep... different level.. brilliant... you need to checkout his homage to the beastie boys, what you want.... and live to hear what you have to say on some of his live stuff with the big push... their "i shot the sheriff / road to zion/ hip hop" mashup is incredible. Keep the great reactions commin 👏👏
Ren is such a wild ride...every single track a refreshing deep masterpiece - THANK YOU 🙏🏼 for your RENaissance!!! And your reaction is great joy to see...😅
REN has me literally stunned. I am someone who 'doesn't like rap music'. I'm pretty much a musical theatre soundtrack kinda girl, but I am 100% hooked on EVERYTHING I have heard from him. I think it's because, like musical theatre, REN's music cleverly paints such a vivid picture and takes me on a journey. I am honestly grateful that he has opened my eyes to a genre I've been missing out on for a while
That 'sound effect' that goes through the track is an acid wave, which was used in loads of UK techno & dance music in the 90s & was originally created with a Roland TB-303.
I love this reaction! It has been so interesting seeing so many different people reacting to Ren’s music. Sound engineers, rappers, therapists, singers… everyone is bringing something different to the table and I am hearing more in his music as I listen through others’ ears. Definitely react to more Ren! You will continue to be blown away by his production and sound design!
That was cool to see someone who knows what they are talking about appreciate how this was put together and originality of it, i've seen a few reactors hate it and say it's really average, Rap isn't my thing so i've no idea how good this is but i can understand how complex this is sonically and understand how much of a Genius Ren is, as he plays multiple instruments makes most of his own Beats and he produces and writes all his own stuff and releases it independently as he doesn't want to be dictated too by a major label.
Seen tons of people break down the lyrics to Ren. Awesome for someone to break down music and production of Ren. Isolating tracks is so fun. Keep soon the damn thing. I’ll sub and look forward to more.
I don't know if you do some kind of sound design magic OR if my brain just paint more attention to it because you directed my attention to it so it stood out more, but I noticed sounds that you didn't specifically mention, that I didn't hear before. Like when you mentioned the snare break sound ( the second time), there is an electric guitar doodlie doo I didn't notice before that is so nice... So do you some how "turn up" the sound for your videos?
I love the production breakdown! The sound design took me back to what I listened to playing Quake in the mid 90s - definitely has a NIN or The Prodigy feel.
I'm not gonna lie I've only watched your Ren reactions, but I'm loving the content. Liked all your Ren videos, and subscribed! Fairplay! Keep the Ren reactions coming please! Would really like to see a reaction to Love Music pt 3, I think the instrumental you'd really enjoy!!
Found you through the ‘Sick Boy’ reaction. Loving your sound engineer/musician take on Ren, great job. Sub’d from the UK 🇬🇧 A reaction to ‘Losing It’ and ‘The Hunger’ by Ren would be fun👍🙏
This was a great reaction. REN’s back catalogue is vast and so many styles too. Everything is him unless it says ‘Retake’ then it’s his words over someone else’s beat/music. Ren is a musical genius. He’s releasing material pretty much monthly. 🐇🕳️🖤
You definitely need to do the tale of Jenny & Screech (FULL) and then Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla! You will NOT be disappointed whatsoever, especially the Tale of Jenny & Screech (Along with Violet's tale as they all are related) Talk about story telling musically!!!
There's a point where he says "wonton" & the camera pans into the back of his hoodie, & it looked like a wonton in soup Also, when it changed to the pared down " I don't feel so well" part, the size of his sweatshirt & sweat pants appeared, to me to be several sizes larger. It made him look emaciated & sick. If these, among other things I picked up on, are really intentional, his artistic detail is phenomenal. It's like Eminem's work - so multi layered & detailed in every aspect, it can take years to pull away the layers & complexities. But Ren seems to have grasped doing this on every single level.
I agree with “I shot the sheriff/road to zion/hip hop” Bob Marley/Dead Prez cover. But also The Tale of Jenny and Screech (FULL) trilogy with Jenny, Screech, and Violet’s tale is a masterclass in storytelling.
The instrumental reminds me a bit of Mick Gordon's music in Doom/Doom Eternal. I'm not fond of rap but Ren has me glued to the screen anytime he's performaning.
fellow Maidiac here but have been on a Ren binge. i guess i have joined the RENaicanse lol. this guy is a great storyteller and can do just about any genre. the Maids might be the best rock band i have heard in decades but Ren is the best all around artist i have seen in a long long time.
2:45 It's my favourite Ren song so far, that production is Awesome! So glad you isolated it! F**kin cool! Do you reckon there's a bit of beat boxing taken into the sound changer and looped? Do you know what I mean? I love that second part, how he's used the volume levels to quiet down his voice, feels like he's got a echo effect on it or he's chopped it into like something like 8-16 section in a bar, nah don't think it's that, I wonder if it's the reverb...someone break it down for me? Anyway the layers are cool! I bet 60% of the time Ren starts off with the beats and then raps on top. 🤔 Anyway Ren's my favourite artist at the minute the beat is sick! 👌
If this was the first one of his you did. Then I suggest you view the one that brought everyone here. HI REN! This unlocks all the rest! This is the video that made me stop in my tracks and say WHOA! This is the one that everyone connects with. Its the one that is launching him!
The base that REN was going for with this beat was an old-school video game. He said he got that part figured out and just kept building on it from there.
Dude, only found your channel today. Great reactions and knowledge, nice one bruvva! Dude, please, how do you isolate all those beats from a CZcams video? Stems? I’m a bit of a nerd and I’d love to know how to do this. Look forward to diving into more of your previous content. Cheers man, peace and stay funky!
I happened to catch Hi Ren the day it came out and immediately started sharing his stuff around. I've been watching everything of his I could find. You should go way back in his timeline and check out some of his stuff under the name Trick the Fox. It's about 10 years old and you can watch him progress from there. You can see the talent and songwriting he had back then and watch it grow.
Great reaction, loved hearing the isolated parts. A lot of rap fans give his beats "weird" because they duct got the current commercial pattern, but I think that's why they keep your attention. The beat on this one was inspired by old video games (I think he said Streets of Rage.) If you want some really fun hip hop songs from him then What You Want is an old skool tribute to the Beastie Boys, and Losing It is a rap he's done over a remixed EDM beat (Losing it by Fisher was the original if you want to check out how seemingly impossible it is to rap to.) I love the beat he made for Genesis, and his brag rap The Hunger uses his own beatboxing mixed in as some of the percussion. Sick Boi is his other big hip-hop one, which was from the same album as this one and Hi Ren. He said in his recent live that there are about 13 unreleased songs still to come on this new album.
Uh yeah, if all you've heard from Ren is "Hi Ren" I can see why this caught you completely off guard ...go listen to the hunger and then get back to us ;)
@@dicodec A lot actually, but not exactly, everything he does has it's own flavor. The Hunger would be the closest to this though. Losing It is just indescribably good, then you have The Tale of Jenny and Screech which is more like Hi Ren, but a three part play, and then you have things like Chalk Outlines which come from a completely different direction, and that's not even getting into the Big Push, or his other busking projects. The guy is supremely talented on many levels: rap, singing, production, multiple instruments--just mind-blowing stuff.
React to Ren and his band The Big Push - I shot the sheriff /Road to Zion /Hip hop. Or Sick boi. Chalk outlines live is also amazing like everything he does 😉❤️✨

I love how excited you get about the song. Great reaction. Thanks!
Great technical breakdown really enjoyed it! Came into my suggestions through Ren. Will stay for more!
great reaction - genuine enthusiasm - subbed! :)
Analisa much appreciated!
Ah! I’ve been waiting to see your reaction to Ren! ❤️❤️
I'd suggest doing Rens Trilogy which is Jenny's Story, Screeches Story, and Violets Story. In that order, or it won't have the intended effect.
OHHH i already heard the JHenny one
@@dicodec Just so you know, all three together tell a story, and I'm glad you only heard the Jenny one as it is the first in the trilogy.
Found you through the ‘Sick Boy’ reaction. Loving your sound engineer/musician take on Ren, great job. Sub’d from the UK 🇬🇧
A reaction to ‘Losing It’ and ‘The Hunger’ by Ren would be fun👍🙏
This was a great reaction. REN’s back catalogue is vast and so many styles too. Everything is him unless it says ‘Retake’ then it’s his words over someone else’s beat/music. Ren is a musical genius. He’s releasing material pretty much monthly. 🐇🕳️🖤
You definitely need to do the tale of Jenny & Screech (FULL) and then Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla! You will NOT be disappointed whatsoever, especially the Tale of Jenny & Screech (Along with Violet's tale as they all are related) Talk about story telling musically!!!
Love your reaction... Liked and subscribed 👍
Awesome thank you!
Yes, he's got absolutely amazing talent. Awesome performances too.
There's a point where he says "wonton" & the camera pans into the back of his hoodie, & it looked like a wonton in soup
Also, when it changed to the pared down " I don't feel so well" part, the size of his sweatshirt & sweat pants appeared, to me to be several sizes larger.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉Ren is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥great stuff, thanks man. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Of course Henry!
Production on Genesis and Power is really good too. He is amazing and a gift.
I love the synth helicopter computer game sound in the last section then it goes up in pitch to a boom.
YESSSWSSSS
He is refreshing and im proud hes from the UK i dont like most UK rappers but hes so much more than that.
The instrumental reminds me a bit of Mick Gordon's music in Doom/Doom Eternal.
I'm not fond of rap but Ren has me glued to the screen anytime he's performaning.
He's used a police siren for the alarm noise. Sampled it slowed down.
13 more tracks to come from his Sick Boi album this year so more to react to 😁👊
The fun circulates!!!! Thank you.
Whether it's Ren or his people...They know how to elevate. "Hi Ren" got everyone's attention...This song elevated him to the next level.
Some of the music/sounds are reminding me of Terminator movies, but in a different beat/rhythm. Love it!
fellow Maidiac here but have been on a Ren binge. i guess i have joined the RENaicanse lol. this guy is a great storyteller and can do just about any genre. the Maids might be the best rock band i have heard in decades but Ren is the best all around artist i have seen in a long long time.
Definitely make a more inviting title I nearly didn’t click on this one but great reaction you’ve got energy for days
The sound you are referring to is an acid bass sound from a Roland TB303 and is very commonly used in electronic dance music
You are so different! I love your reactions!
If this was the first one of his you did. Then I suggest you view the one that brought everyone here. HI REN! This unlocks all the rest! This is the video that made me stop in my tracks and say WHOA! This is the one that everyone connects with. Its the one that is launching him!
What song to check out?
Yes.
lol i think sick boi will be next
"losing it" is a rap to EDM then "what you want" is a Rap hip hop bestie boys style great fun time
The base that REN was going for with this beat was an old-school video game.
What an awesome Reaction! Thank you
❤
Love this track! REN kills it 🖤
Isn't he great? Love this!❤😊
Thank you Lisa!
He the artist with every package
You are my favourite reaction channel 🙏🙌🙌🇬🇧🇺🇸
I happened to catch Hi Ren the day it came out and immediately started sharing his stuff around. I've been watching everything of his I could find. You should go way back in his timeline and check out some of his stuff under the name Trick the Fox. It's about 10 years old and you can watch him progress from there. You can see the talent and songwriting he had back then and watch it grow.
Hi-Ren, Tale of Jenny and Screech (full), Sick Boi
Sick boi I am doing next
Just freaking amazing!!! Ren! Ren!! Ren!!!!!
Great reaction, loved hearing the isolated parts. A lot of rap fans give his beats "weird" because they duct got the current commercial pattern, but I think that's why they keep your attention. The beat on this one was inspired by old video games (I think he said Streets of Rage.)
If you want some really fun hip hop songs from him then What You Want is an old skool tribute to the Beastie Boys, and Losing It is a rap he's done over a remixed EDM beat (Losing it by Fisher was the original if you want to check out how seemingly impossible it is to rap to.)
I love the beat he made for Genesis, and his brag rap The Hunger uses his own beatboxing mixed in as some of the percussion.
Sick Boi is his other big hip-hop one, which was from the same album as this one and Hi Ren. He said in his recent live that there are about 13 unreleased songs still to come on this new album.
Ren- Genesis!!! Great Reaction ❤
Uh yeah, if all you've heard from Ren is "Hi Ren" I can see why this caught you completely off guard
...go listen to the hunger and then get back to us ;)
I heard there is some more like this!
Welcome to the Rabbit hole.
Jenny and Screech FULL. Love your surprise. Fasten your seatbelt.
Thank you Frances!
This is like a crossover episode for me.
React to Ren and his band The Big Push - I shot the sheriff /Road to Zion /Hip hop. Or Sick boi. Chalk outlines live is also amazing like everything he does 😉❤️✨
Ren on 🔥
Definitely!
🔥❤an
Love this
I can see your face - you are down the REN rabbit hole!
Great reaction ❤More Ren please
This is the dark Ren from the Hi Ren video. Wow.
I described this as sounding like a post apocalyptic Prodigy. I'm sticking with that.
Yesssssssssssss❤
You have to do Ren's Trilogy Tales ❣️
Fantastic reaction! I hope you do more Ren!!!!
More to come!
