  • This 1969 Mustang Mach1 428 SCJ is and older build of mine. Built around 2005 from the Revell kit. It is pretty much a box stock build. I only changed out the tires on this one.

    A friend of mine had either a 69 or 70 Mustang 428CJ, that car was a torque monster! So much so, he kept a $20 bill on the dashboard, said if you could grab it when he hits the gas and dumps clutch pedal from stop it was yours. That car accelerated so fast and launch was brutal, that it always sat me back into the seat and I was never able to reach out and grab the $20 bill off the dashboard. Great times and Great car!

      Very cool. My wagon was the same way. It would launch hard with all the weight on the rear tires and my built 440!

    I saw a 1969 Mach I with a factory 390 at a Mustang show in Port Orchard Washington in 1989 or 1990. I have a picture somewhere. I remember it because I didn't know it was available in 1969. Nice build, nice kit, I built mine in white with a red interior.

      Very cool. I don’t recall seeing any myself but if I did I may have dismissed it as it wasn’t a 428.

    Very nice. 1 of my best friends had one. White with red interior and the red fluorescent stripes, but it was the 428 Super Cobra Jet version.

      Very cool! I read that just about 10k 428 CJ motors were built for all models. Most of them when into Mach 1s!

    Round about 1975 or so, a friend's (Josh) younger sister's boyfriend showed up with his new purchase, a '69 Mach in Candy Apple Red with the 390-4V. It had the standard hood scoop, but I cannot recall the trans. This was the first I knew of a 390 Mach. (I did have another friend with an Indian Fire 351W Mach I). Josh's dad had a 1969 GT350 Shelby with the 351-4V. They had a circular driveway, and he took a picture of those cars and my '68 GT/CS bumper-to-bumper in front of the house. I would love to know if that photo survived. Nice model as usual!!

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 3 měsíci

      Very cool! The few 390 69 Mustangs including Mach 1 all seem to have the GT non functional hood scoop. The only reference to the Ram Air is on the 428 R code engine.

      @@TheMuscleCarModeler In 1969, both the 351 and 390 engines had Shakers as optional. They are very rare, but they do exist. The height of the 351 air cleaner base is taller to make up for the lower installed height of that engine, to place the shaker in the correct spot. That is known fact. Now, the iron 390 intake is just a little lower than the iron CJ intake, and I would bet that the correct base for that is a smidge taller, too. On 1969 Torino and Ranchero GT's, that standard scoop had a black block-off plate behind the silver scoop grille for non-ram engines. It was deleted for Ram Air applications. Drag testing showed those scoops were worth 2 mph on the top end, not bad for having openings down in the boundary layer.

    hard to believe only 5000 68/390 cuz i had one blk/blk primer dents but she had a 4 speed ragtime girl 4 chur😁🤩ps yours looks killer thx😎

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 3 měsíci

      For 69 not many 390s produced. 68 had a lot more as that was the biggest engine for most the year until the 428CJ was introduced as a limited option.

    Not 100% sure but you could get a 2 barrel also in Mach Ones.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The info was kind vague. A 351 2V and 4V were available in 69 Mustangs. When I was looking into the Mach1 it just mentions 351, 390 and 428. But Hemmings says the 351 2V H code engine was available in the Mach 1 and was the only Mach1 with a single exhaust. It was also a Windsor motor and replaced by the Cleveland 351 in 1970.

      @@TheMuscleCarModeler My previous comment originated from a rare NASCAR American Raceway Inc. (ARI) Official Pace Car Mach 1 that I had seen about 5 years ago and it had a 351 with the RAM AIR option but a two barrel carb! After reading your response to my first comment, I decided to go back to the pictures I had kept and guess what? It was a 1970. So I’m not sure about a two barrel ram air in 69 but they sure produced some for 1970.
