    Just like the phone box, the hut could use a person inside that you can plainly see through the large window. The opening scene highlights the marvelous track work you have created. Great modeling.

    Dear Tony, great little projects! Cool to see the telephone box (wo)manned. Either she must be calling a friend, or she called in the emergency! Regarding the time frame you’re modeling, and the flashy trousers Fiona is wearing, I gather she’s like one of those girls from the time that we later saw in television series. She might be the reason Hercule is at Tyne Dock.
    On the ‘Green Goddess’ fire truck, when you showed the inside of the body, it’s obvious that the entire window section is a one piece mould from clear plastic. Couldn’t see if the indent to the beacon is an intricate part of the clear plastic construction. Can only imagine that the outside blue beacon sits over a clear plastic rod, which is part of the entire window section. That will make it hard to prevent any kind of light bleed. Even when you would cover the outside corners of the indent, the inside corner around the protruding rod cannot be reached and will produce light bleed.
    Humbly think it would be rather difficult to prevent any further bleeding through, where you would have to physically separate the clear part with the indent and rod, from the rest of the window section. That also might compromise the structure of the fire truck. For the results of the flashing effect it wouldn’t even matter that much, you might still see a bit of reflection of the blue light on the window.
    Love the scene, can’t wait for the story of the emergency to unfold in one of your next episodes! The obvious fire might be too much. I would opt for the cat in the tree and the cat’s housemate mrs. Suthender having fainted from worry.
    Cheers to you Vince

    • @TONYNORTHEASTERN
      @TONYNORTHEASTERN  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Good morning Vince. i agree with your comment. i think i would had to remove the glass and then cut a bigger hole in the glass where the beacon is and then glue and paint in and around that area black. and then place the led into that area. that may have worked. but yes i am finding the railway more interesting at the moment as i am not stuck on just one project. many little projects are more fun to do. thanks again for commenting. cheerio for now Tony.

Beautiful work there though Tony, especially on the (not so) Green Goddess 😊Oh BTW I love the 'Sound Wagon'. Hi Tony, another great video. I too like these little jobs that bring so much satisfaction when successfull and so therapeutic. I was going to suggest the the black tack idea for the fire engine but I see I was beaten to it. I love Fiona in the telephone box. It's a pity you can't see the result of your work very well. But you could take advantage of the opening door and keep it open while a friend stands talking to Fiona. If I remember correctly it wasn't easy to get 2 persons in a box. Keep up the good work and keep 'em coming.

    Very effective, Tony, it's little scenes like these that make a layout. Incidently the siting of the new signal box is ideal as it allows the signalman to control the junction to the steam shed as well as the trailing crossover that most locos leaving the shed will have to negotiate - this is a potential touble spot which the man in the box can keep his eye on.
    Once again, thanks for sharing your layout.

    Nice one Tony, I didn’t realise the Hornby sound truck would have the fire engine bells sounds in it, takes me back a bit. But then long gone have the calls from the rag and bone men and the knife sharpeners we used to get up and down our streets. Have you thought about lighting the telephone box? Oh -6 deg C you beat us, hope you coped alright. We were +6 (T shirt weather) then after a brief spell at -40 deg C it’s now hovering around zero and flooded with snow melt in the garden - so far warmer this year (should be -20 to -30). Colder and snow due mid week…. All the best Stephen

      Good morning Peter. Its funny Fiona must be connected as she has not left the Telephone box in two days. god only knows what she is up to in there. Lol. • @petercarter9093
      @petercarter9093 Před 7 měsíci

      @TONYNORTHEASTERN I think I've queued outside a box with a Fiona in quite a few times Tony.
      We didn't have dialling phones in phone boxes near my childhood home ( Bracknell) . You had to put 4d in and wait for a reedy voice to say " number please." I think button "B" gave you the 4d back if there was no answer.
      Talking like that makes me think of the " 4 Old Men" sketch in " Monty Python"!!!!
      All the best. Peter

    Hi Tony. An unexpected video to entertain us all. Some great additions to the North Eastern.
    Plate layers huts were generally used by Lengthmen and other members of the Permanent Way Department as a shelter when the weather turned bad or they wanted a welcome break. They would contain a stove which was fuelled by anything flammable that could be found, such as odd bits of coal, bits of sleeper, old chair keys, etc. There would usually be a table and chairs and the Lengthmen would make a pot of tea including milk and sugar, usually to the Ganger’s taste; well, he is the boss. 😆
    No turntable at South Shields? There was one when I was a lad. 😉
    Can I take it that you did not run a lighting bus around and underneath the layout when first built, to provide a facility to tap into whenever you needed a supply for local lighting. Looking forward to the next one. Best, Jason.

      I have found 1950s fire engines with blue lights.

      Although they only had a single light not light the double header lights like what we have today.
      Germany were the first to have blue lights on their fire engines in 1938. blue light have been around for awhile. many thanks for commenting cheer's for now Tony

    Why do you say Green Goddess Fire Engine? It is red. Unless I am colour blind.

      Green goddesses
      Simon Jeffery profiles the army firefighting vehicles that are called into service, along with thousands of armed forces staff, when firefighters go on strike

      No radio, a top speed of 35mph and 1950s firefighting technology are just some of the features of the green goddess - the military fire engine that will be called into service tomorrow in the event of a Fire Brigades Union strike.
      They were first put into use to battle civilian fires 25 years ago when soldiers stepped in for striking firefighters. The government has said it will send troops in again.
      Up to 19,000 members of the armed forces will be drafted in to man the 840 ageing vehicles but there is concern that they will not have access to firefighting equipment such as breathing apparatus.
      The green goddesses, the oldest working fire engines in the western world, were built in 1953 to provide a simple fire engine that could be used by untrained civilians in the wake of a nuclear war.
      The six-strong crew inside them is surrounded by timber and plywood compared to the hardened steel cabs in modern fire engines.
      There are just two seats for a driver and another crew member. The rest sit on a forward-facing wooden bench at the back of the cab.
      The only ladder has a 35ft reach and is incapable of reaching any height above the second floor of a house or office.
      Today's fire engines - of which there are more than 3,000 - have specialist high-rise equipment with 150ft aerial platform turntables and five ladders with a reach of 45ft.
      They can also carry 500 gallons of water, far more than the 300 gallons on one of the army's machines.
      The green goddesses also lack in-line foam equipment used for vehicle fires, or cutting equipment for road and train accidents, excavations, and rescuing people trapped in machines.
      When they are not on standby for firefighter strikes, the Dutch-owned transport firm TNT keeps many of them in an aircraft hangar in Staffordshire.
