How do u get thrown out from 3rd with a relay. Alonzo is slow as hell.
in situations like these im not sure why Mendoza didnt use a pinch runner
Hahahahaha I thought Polar Bears were actually fast?? Pitch runner would have been the better play there never thought about that great point
@@gforce97 My guess is that if they scored the tying run but not the winning run then Alonso wouldn't be able to bat again in extra innings
Mets have slow team hahahah
@@dwizzy.34they don’t have an extra first baseman
I'm just waiting for the Jomboy breakdown now.
Me too - he always does a great job !
That dbag still exists? And he was out not even close
@@LanceBeckman 0:34 his hand is down rag not applied Safe
This is so cringe. Imagine being obsessed with an internet addicted man child
@charlesNYMets wrong hes out. No wonder you watch jomboy. You struggle to think on your own
The cheer when he “confirms” the blocking was hilarious.
That's just a bad break for the Mets. It looks like Pete's hand hit the ground early and hard, so it bounced over the plate and he didn't get it back down until after the tag.
He learned to slide into 2nd, which is a bag. Plate is not a bag. And that is all the difference.
@@adamwatkins1150 he was forced to slide head first to because of the position of the catch
@@CharlesMetshe had room to touch the base but failed to 😂
@@CharlesMets nope
He'll we were taught if their on plate slide spikes up end their career
Catcher played it perfectly according to rules
Catcher was within the rules, but that is NOT a perfect baseball play. If Pete didn’t have a horrible slide, the runner is always going to be safe before the catcher tags him.
@@ThatGuy-nv7cx yes i think in order for him to be out on that play it had to be a perfect play AND you needed that tiny mistake by alonso, i mean he game alonso the front of the plate so there was no blocking
His hand rose up above the plate and that’s when he got tagged out. Fair play as they say.
3rd baseman won’t get enough love for this play. That was one of the quickest, smoothest relays I’ve ever seen
Nick Madrigal. And Ian Happ deserves credit for fundamental baseball, actually hitting the cutoff man.
@@larrymcardle Would have been nice to see Happ get a step or two behind that ball though. Looked like he was just drifting with it.
C'mon, catcher standing on the rear of the plate, ball is incoming and compels the catcher to move, but he still keeps the plate accessible. Clearly. This is great mechanics by the catcher. And textbook scenario to the rule. I would argue the hand came back down before the tag and the umpire missed it.
"And he did"
How'd that expert analysis pan out, Darling? 😅
To be fair that was before the replay. Mets announcers are usually pretty good at calling it down the middle
It’s games like these that give you the impression these northsiders have both the power and the speed to be the best in the National League
Both calls are correct.
I think he was safe. Regardless. 100%, he was blocking the plate . It doesn't matter where his FEET are. The dumb announcer clearly has no idea. He's leaning forward and blocking with his knees.😂
@@MValleysMostWanted91he's definitely not blocking the plate. The replay clearly shows he has an open lane to place his hand down.
@Kartracer6 its close haha you could argue either way .🤷🏽♂️
Oof for the Mets. Pete's hand 'boinged' off the dirt and it looked when it came back down to touch the plate the tag from Amaya was there. Justified out call and bad luck.
Good call blue
Here's the irony - the home plate umpire actually "blew" the call because he could not have seen Alonzo's hand float above the plate (Alonza beat the throw). But, on review, the call is correctly confirmed. The irony is that if the umpire called Alonzo safe, I'm not sure there's enough evidence to have overturned the safe call either.
They looked at it at all angles, but made the fight call from where he was standing over the catcher, plain light as day
Pathetic effort by the base runner to slide hands first and incredible effort by the outfielder, the infielder, and the catcher to be extra prepared for anything that might possibly change the game! That play was the main difference and it helped propel the Cubs to a huge win on the road thanks to the umps understanding their expertise!
That was a good call.
You are not allowed to stand on home plate as a catcher without the ball
@@BarkingFrogThat’s not the rule. You’re not allowed to block it and he didn’t until after he got the ball. The front of the plate was unblocked prior to Amaya getting the ball.
My god baseball is so stupid. Dumb rules that make no sense in the heat of the moment
Fly the W
What a shite slide by Alonso
Good slide tbh, head first is the hardest in the game and he glided in gracefully.. just didn’t keep his hand down, BUT that jump off 3rd was horrendous
Bro just didn’t tag home…….crazy play
Bo Jackson would not have needed instant replay. Or a cutoff.
Both facts! lol not for the game
Great throw, great relay, great tag. Great call.
Why no pinch runner? They were saving Alonzo for extra innings? Well, you have to get to extra innings first.
Mlb must be ready for things like this play in order to finalized a complete game. The rule book should be thicker!
Pete moves away from the plate when the catcher comes down with his knee towards Pete. that could be a career ending injury, good move by Pete
So everybody in the comments gonna act like the catcher wasnt blocking the plate without the ball in hand?? The bia in opinions against the mets never cease to amaze me..
That is some of the best catcher play I have seen in a long time. Perfect technique.
The true comedy that gets lost is the fans misinterpretation of the umpires announcement. “After review, two calls on the field. Blocking, is confirmed (Yeeeeeahhh!!). There is NO blocking. After review, the call of out on the field stands, runner’s out. Mets be Metsing.” (Nooooooo!!!!)
Yeah the reason he missed the plate was obviously cuz he was turning his head to the right to avoid breaking his face on the catcher’s knee. But if putting your knee out there where the runner’s head is gonna be in a slide is legal, so be it.
His hand clearly comes down and touches the plate. How the hell was he called out even with replay!?!?
He looks like my boy Stanton lol. Talk about slow. Hit the cut off man on a sac fly?
At least Alonso runs hard
@@Fryed_Bryce that is Stanton running hard lol
@@BIGCATsP0PTART use your eyes the next time you actually watch Stanton run the base paths
@@Fryed_Bryce it’s sad but that is a fast as he goes
I don't know... Sticking his knee way out like that to prevent the runner from reaching the plate is questionable. You can tell the runner had to stretch for the plate because the catcher's knee was in the way, also the runner had to turn his head and his eyes away from the plate, preventing him from seeing where the plate even was, because if he didn't, he'd be missing a few teeth.
Both calls are correct. His hand came up before the plate, and he got tagged before getting it back down. And the catcher wasn't blocking the front side of the plate, and only came in to grab the ball and make the tag.
Runner couldn't touch the base without colliding into the foot of the catcher on the base, which would have broken the runners hand. Fielder should have been to the side of the base, out of the runners path, so as to not block the base. Ump is wrong again, Angel Hernandez.
@@johnthomas1422the no blocking call was confirmed, which meant that the panel of review umpires also found there not to be any blocking of the plate. Besides, last time I checked runners aren’t given any extra protections if they’re stupid enough to dive headfirst into the middle of home plate. His fingers are making contact with something no matter what. Your argument already fails because he COULD have touched the entire front half of the plate, but didn’t.
There was room to touch the plate and the ball led him to the plate.
Correct, by the old rules or the new rules, he's out. Nothing at all controversial here.
Thrown out from left on a relay😂😂
Its definitely not blocking the plate....mets coach misunderstood the rule because of the misleading memo mlb sent out.....as for the tag its extremely close....i think had they called him safe in real time the call would have stood. Just not enough evidence
When the crowd started cheering but he wasnt done lmao
Right
They started cheering cause they were watching the slo-mo replay where it looks like he could've been safe, but it wasn't clear enough to overturn it hence why the call of out stands and the no blocking was confirmed which means it was clear as Day that there was no blocking
I was at that game the ump messed up the way he called the result. When he said blocking is confirmed and did a safe motion, the stadium went crazy and we all thought he was safe. On a side note, the play with the tag and his ahnd touching home plate was so close. IMO, if the call was safe, it would've stood too close. To me, it looked like a tie, but way too close to overturn the call.
Really though? Feel like there is a point of difficulty where could call it blocking. Especially given that the right knee is turning into the runner.
Alonzo is pulling a train.
I have imanaga in fantasy so thanks to pete for blowing it 🥳 secured me a win
Dude was on 3rd base looking up at the baseball whole time instead of running...
Catcher was blocking the plate, Pete should have trucked him.
Go Cubs Go!!!!
If only he had the 8 inch oven mitt extender
Didn't want to win bad enough, seperate the catcher from the ball.
Great call by umpires. He clearly had a path to touch home plate and for some reason he didn't put his hand down in time
It was a tie kinda crazy
Its always safer to use your helmet, expecially if youre out 😂
It's not a force out so why is there a need for Cubs catcher to touch the plate. Unsafe for Pete..should have just trucked him.
Fundamental Baseball. What a WIN...
Pete... Pete... Pete... OMG
Imagine thinking the catcher did something wrong 😂
He would’ve been safe without a doubt if he would’ve kept his hand down
Cubs win!!! Cubs win!!! Cubs win!!!
Choke on it!!!!!
This team makes so many mistakes Wendell not throwing home first game,Pete sliding with his hand up not touching the plate 😅poor fundamentals
And Jeff McNeil loses a RBI too
Gonna wait for jomboy to break this one down
First, no way the game ends on a rule that I think isn’t very good, and he missed by that much, crazy
Slide feet first, it’s safe.
would have been safe if he was wearing a sliding mitt
He was out and it wasn't really close.
As an expert(lol) he is out 1000%
Go Cubs Go
Another example of how players today so NOT play the game right. Everything we were taught in little league goes out the window because played in the Big League's have huge egos.
Catching fly balls with one hand, when we were always taught use two hands and now this, sliding into a god damn plate. Since when his using your had and fingers and good idea to slide? FEET first. Unless you want your face busted or spend the season eating popcorn with Alvarez?
watever bookies need they get LMFAO they make the rules house always WINS :)
Mets gonna Met
One of the idiotic rule chnages of the past 10 years or so that makes MLB unwatchable to me. After 1150 years the Owners decided that blocking the plate wasa bad rule because Buster Posey got his ankle blown up on a play at the plate. Nevermind that he that he though it wasa stupid rule change it was done anyway. The next totally idiotic rule chnage from the owners was not being allowed to break up a double play. This occurred after a minor league 2nd Baseman tried to turn a double play that wasn't there. A lot of Met's fans that really only watched games during the playoffs decided that it was the big bad baserunner ex-Phillie Chase Utley that did something wrong. It wasn't! The 2nd baseman should have taken the force play and been done with it but no the SS saw him on the bag and threw him the ball. Needless to say he was injured when the baserunner slid into him. Nothing dirty and nothing outside of the rules of baseball for the past 150 years. Over the past ten years numerous silly rul changes that achieved nothing but increased boredom have been implemented. It's a real shame after 115 years of playing by pretty much the same rules, with the one major exception of the DH in the American League since 1972 or 73, we're now down watching T-ball. Thanks ownership! After my rant here. By any rules the baserunner is out, he didn't touch the plate.
Oh no god forbid we try to prevent players from snapping their legs, some plays are just overly dangerous, like Pete rose tackling the catcher
All you can do is ask them to review a real game changing play, and they did review it.
Safe by a mile

mets gonna mets
Fatalonso
He ain't blocking Mets are just cry babies from a Cubs fan 😂
Your an idiot if you think that was not a block, and his hand beat the tag. What s the point in replay , if they can't even get the call right.
I'm always gonna say it straight up. Pete Alonso has been the mets laughing stock he hasn't done anything great for the team either the Mets dfa him or sell him asap or the Mets will continue losing games and won't win another championship
I’m not a Mets fan but the dude hits 40HRs every year. I’ll take him over lindor and he’s 14 million cheaper a year
Really hasn't done anything great hmm if I remember correctly he broke alot of met records broke the rookie home run record and always gives 100%, hits for power and is improving on defense and is improving on clutch moments but no he hasn't done anything great...give me a break
Pete should have just bum rushed the catcher, and knock the ball out and be safe. BUT NOOOO he has to be nice guy Pete
He still would have been out.
Why doesn't this sort of play happen at 2nd base. Because the catcher has shin guards and decided to put his body into the entire play and fall across the plate. I've never seen a 2nd basemen or shortstop make such a maneuver. The catcher wanted as close of a block as the rule would allow as currently interpreted. MLB will make catchers tag like infielders.
Quit whining - the front of the plate was left open by the catcher. If Pete's hand didn't bounce over the plate he would have been called safe on review. Even the Mets broadcasters said this was the right call.
Horrible call
Great call…
@@joen8529it was the wrong call, you Windy City folks have too much air in your head
How do these umpires continue to go to review and still get it wrong? Baseball is a dying sport because of these soft protected umpires.
He was out and there was no blocking, so what did they get wrong?
At first I thought he was safe too, but the better angle pretty clearly shows his hand bounces off the ground and didn’t come back down to touch the plate until the tag was on…one of the closest plays I’ve ever seen…. it was actually a pretty amazing call from the ump!
@@michaeld6147he was standing on home plate without the ball. Which is not legal in baseball
@@BarkingFrog He was standing on the back of the plate with the front of the plate unblocked. That is legal.
Damn poor Mets! I hate the Cubs 🤣🤣
They hate you back

Cubs fans hate the Mets too, so yeah.
I dont like the Mets but thats a terrible call he clearly came back down on the plate before the tag there is no excuse to get that wrong when its clearly on video smh
That’s not what I saw at all…
100% blocking the plate. C’mon, you know you can’t do that.
He left the whole front of the base open. No way you get that call.
He wasn't blocking at all. The entire front of the plate was open, and he only came into the path to get the ball. Couldn't be clearer.
Alonso should've touched the plate with his left hand, instead of inexplicably lifting it up as if he were a toddler playing baseball for the first time.
@@pmmcrobb lmao
His foot was on the plate, and that was a block under the new rules. Under the old time rules, this would not even be an argument.
Just put the video back in .25, he lifts his hand yes but he also puts his wrist and hand back down right before the tag, clear as day.
Yeah clear as day. You slowed down an already slowed down replay. No excuse by the umps. My blind grandma could have seen that yup
Yes, these people are blind or Cubs fans.
Nah, I thought so too at first, but the tag was on by the time his hand came back down…. Surprisingly great call from the ump.
The bigger question is why didn't they go for a pinch runner instead of Alonso?🫠
Got a bad jump
Even with video review they still get it wrong.
Scare shit to run FROM FIRST should have scored earlier inconsistent Mets ever year time to break this team up
