Awesome stuff here!! Great vid - and an amazing character and comic.
Shang-Chi is an awesome run, some of my favorite Omnis. It's got a whole International 70s espionage vibe going on, and it works. They were blessed to have amazing artists throughout the entire run and the writing is a step up over standard superhero fare.
You're gonna love it.

Not sure if you have read hickmans avengers run but shang chi is pretty prominent on that team. And has some updated powers.
Love the vids keep up the great work.
Would like to see you do a review on these. Especially volumes 2 & 3 as they contain some really good stories that are not only action-packed but convey some really good philosophical conundrums that make you think. I picked these Omnis up as they were coming out as I have fond memories of the stories growing up in the 70's/80's. I haven't read any of the Omnis yet but if you get on it that will push me to finally start reading them too! :-) I remember them being a little more sophisticated story wise then the other stuff I was reading in the 70's. I remember some of the stories having kind of a James Bondish feel to them that kept me waiting for the next issue. Shang Chi was always the guy looking at the events occurring from the outside looking in. He always felt like a third party observer that needed to get involved as that was the right thing to do.
I think you’ll dig it. It’s James Bond except with Kung fu.
I have all those too. The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu Omnibus are so weird, because it includes those articles on martial movies and other martial arts related articles in it.

Every omnibus released so far my favorite gem mint series
I recently bought the Shang-Chi Epic Collections because of the art and because I wanted to know about the character before the movie hits theaters. The books should arrive in tomorrow from IST. I also bought Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky, I'm looking forward to reading it.
I started reading these volumes plus the Iron Fist and Powerman and Iron Fist Epic collections at the start of the pandemic. I am nearly at the end now and have enjoyed them all.
Damn, those issues by Starlin and Zeck bring me back memories!!!!...... I guess I'm gonna look for those Omnis.

A little history if anyone is interested. Marvel tried to get the rights to the tv series Kung Fu starring David Carradine from Warner Brothers. However, Warner Brothers declined because they thought that their comic company DC should do it. However in the end DC never issued a Kung Fu licensed book and were behind the curve on the Kung Fu craze. Meanwhile Marvel had bought the rights to Sax Rohmer’s Fu Manchu. They began to have second thoughts about Fu Manchu headlining a comic because of fears of the character being considered racist. They decided therefore to combine the two concepts in Master of Kung Fu. Though taking some inspiration from the Kung Fu series Shang Chi is visually more similar to Bruce Lee. The recent movie combines some elements of Shang Chi and Iron Fist.
MASTER OF KUNG FU is up there with TOMB OF DRACULA and CONAN as the very best 70s Marvel comics.
You're worried about Bronze Age writing but it's literally better than anything Marvel is putting out now

Marvel finally got the rights to republish these issues after decades of trying to do so. Fu Manchu and a number of other characters were owned by the Sax Rohmer estate (who created them during the pulp fiction days) so even though Marvel had the rights to the characters during the 70's, they lost the rights after the series ended so even though Shang Chi and many of the supporting characters were Marvel, they couldn't republish the other characters that weren't theirs; until a couple years ago, They had a short window where they got the rights again which is why these volumes came out all within a year's time. That's why Marvel was so quick to get this entire run out before they lost the rights again.
I have always liked shang chi, I have the whole magazine and comic run. I recently picked up the vol 1 omni and deadly hand omni vol 1 & 2. Interested in getting the other volumes.🙂🙂👍

Missed out on the omnis but ive picked up the first 2 Shang chi epics aswell as iron fist now just trying to track down cheap power man iron fist and have it all together, hope the movie isn't to over the top
Very surprised you haven't read these yet. The writing by Doug Moench( pronounced Mench) is very good and the issues He did with artist Paul Gulacy were exceptional. If you listen to John Suintres` Word Balloon podcast you`ll find a nice interview with him from a few months ago.

Was interested in what you said about the writing. Both you and Omar seem to think that the writing is a bit dense in Bronze Age titles. This is what I like about these old comics. I don’t think comics today have a lot of reading on them. I like to take a half hour over a comic - not 5 or 10 minutes.

I remember that some where in the comics Shang Chi, meets a blind man shooting bow and arrow. And they have conversation and then the blind man, shoots arrow and hits fallen leave from a tree. Can you tell me which section it is from. Or am I wrong and it was another comic character? Maybe you can help me. 😊
The art is great and it’s Bronze Age, I‘m pretty sure it‘ll be good. Need to read that as well, all on my shelf. Not the Deadly Hands omnis though, didn’t find the concept appealing.

itd pretty amazing a character that hasn't been popular since his series in the 70s has 4 omnibuses and the 2 deadly hands of kung fu. i hjave the first deadly hands omni but i would love having them all. the book gets better when paul gulacy. if you like espionage this is a great book. i wonder if they will make the manderin his dad . they can't use fu manchu. thanks for the look.

Doug Moench is a great writer. He's the guy who wrote the vampire Batman stuff in the early '90's.
Moench is pronounced- "Mensch." But some people with that last name can also pronounce it- "Monk."
@@carrion_man3700 moench is how you write monk in German, since the English don’t have ö. Also pronounced the same as mensch if just change it to an e.

I love these BW magazines, and in the early 70's the Kung Fu craze was gigantic, so hence the content of the magazine to tap into this phenomenon, but for present day readers I guess like you said it is not easy to get into that mindset of that ear but I guess Marvel has the confindence in her buyers and readers that it is still sellable!

Yeah, some of that Bronze Age writing can be tough.
Shang-Chi and Liu Kang are both coming to theaters in the next 2 years. Both bruce lee clones, both in iconic red colors, red headband, and rock that dragon motif. Lmaoo one of them is gonna be switched up drastically I bet.
There are three Omnibuses that focus on Shang Chi and two black and white Omnibuses, right?

The fact that Shang Chi has more omnibus than Hulk and Iron Man and the same amount of omnis as Wolverine is depressing
This was helpful, I was nearly buying 2 of these omni's til I realized they were B&W. I will not pay money for an omnibus of that. They need to go through and colorize these issues, then they'd have done something, the covers were very dope.
I like the kung fu premise but the name of the main character makes me laugh every time when I look at it. The name is actually pretty ridiculous in Chinese lol
