I like how comprehensive this list is. I feel you can include more titles to the list.
This topic demands a Part 2.
"Taylor Taylor let me stop you right there. Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender is one of the best comics ever written" -Kanye West
Gem, I think you should get rid of the music in the background when you're looking it over. It's more interesting hearing what you got to say about it. Just my opinion.
I agree with all of the above
Yeah ditch the music.
I dunno man, I thought it was ok
I agree the music is great when your statues are rotating on the disk but for the omnibus reviews I like to hear what you have to say
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video!! A lot of readers (including myself) really want to get into comics, but sometimes it seems too daunting. This makes it a lot easier!!!
Iâve recommended ultimate Spider-Man omnibus to friends unfamiliar with marvel, seems to be an easy read and gets people into Spider-Man.
Unfortunately it's only half a run and OOP.
Zay 475
Thatâs why I lend it to them, no reason to hoard comics when someone new can read them
I think I'll just jump on when miles starts because his stuff isn't out of print yet
Loved the video. It would be great if you could do more videos like this. Things like: best stories for a specific character, best stories from a major author, good jumping points for a new reader of a specific character and so on.
Good idea showing the art of the hard covers, it helps a lot. The picks are also excellent. Thanks
GREAT VIDEO đč ONCE AGAIN!! That audio on point all the time man...keep up the good work đđđȘ
Another killer video gem! Keep pumping them out and 100k is right around the corner
I hit the like button before watching the vid for once. Dope topic. Thanks mang
This video literally has every Omnibus on my want list! Planet Hulk was the first one I bought and I loved it, currently reading WWH now! Good stuff bro. đđ
Strrrreeeetch that S P I N E !!!
This is great, Gem thanks for this! đ
Death of Superman was my first TPB too. Such a great run. Wondering if youâd eventually like doing a good âeasy to findâ top TPB/Omni review in a similar vein.
Stay minty!
The death of Superman could honestly be itâs own Omni with the return being its own Omni.
This was a good idea, should get a lot of new subs this way. You could also do books in print, OOP books that are getting reprinted, and Omni vs absolute pros and cons.
Great video! I picked up my first Omni (Wolverine) with New X-men on the way. Glad to know what to be looking for next. Already looking forward to the sequel to this video with 11-20!
Great list! I've started collecting thanks to you a year and a half ago. On my own already have half the Marvel omni's you listed :) 'stretch those spines yall'
Thanks for sharing! I'm interested in Wolverine,Uncanny X-Force, and Infinity Saga. Hubby told me about some of them and I was interested, but I thought it daunting to find all the books. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction to make it easier to jump into.
Even tho Iâm not new too comics I recently picked up the Johns/EvS green lantern run and man say what you will bout EvS but that man can one hell of a comic book đ
he's a great artist for sure.
Excelent excelent excelent video man! Watching your videos is making me read all the comics I really enjoy, but stopped reading some time ago. You're easily becoming my favorite CZcams channel! Keep up the awesome work!
awesome compliment...thank you brother
Great video. Just beginning to collect omnis, so this was a big help. đ
Thanks for the informative video. I havent pulled the trigger just yet but want to buy my first omnibus soon.
This helped me a lot as a new omnibus collector, thanks gem đ
As always, DOPE video Gem!
My man Gem Mint Always trying to make it easy for beginners thanks a lot â€ïž
Gem thanks for this vid man! Iâm on a mission this morning to get some good/huge material to dive into and Iâm going to look around my comic shops and in stock trades. So perfect timing for this vid and also Iâm new to ur vids but I can tell ur only getting better and better and I love how u turn the books around now so we canât see what books they are! Keeps my watching and anticipated
thanks man....good luck on the hunt!
Gem Mint Collectibles what you think of my collection so far, went crazy with my extra money I had saved up #ThanksCongress haha! ... : (OMNIS) Absolute Preacher v1, fantastic four v1 by Stan lee, kill or be killed, new x men, Astonishing X Men, & Wolverine V1. And for my TPB I have old man Logan & Batman:Year one, Black Mirror, and Hush. And lastly I have the Watchmen Deluxe HC. Iâm looking for more to get this year. do u have any recommendations or tips ,for reselling later. Thanks for ur time
Great list. I really love the inclusion of the Jeph Loeb / Tim Sale Batman Omni.
Awesome. Just the video I was looking for. Grabbed that Green Lantern and XForce
Where was this last year lol good thing I lucked out and got almost all of these!
Awesome video and it was very helpful, thanks Gem !
Really nice content, love to see 11 to 20!
Great recommendations, I've been reading Marvel for so long, this will help me get into DC
I don't know if you've done a video like this but a video of the best starter omnibus for each character would be pretty cool!
Love your videos totally awesome. Keep up the great work
Good stuff...very in depth look at an omnibus. Thanks for the content
Appreciate this vid bro...been thinking about starting at the beginning with green lantern...heâs the hero Iâm most interested in, but know the least about
Liked the list. I would add Planetary and Thor by Walt Simonson maybe Aquaman. Thor had an impact on the Marvel movies too.
Really enjoying your content. Keep it going.đŻ
Nice top 10, Iâd have these as honorable mentions. FF vol. 2, Conan vol 1, uncanny x-men vol. 1, ultimate Spider-Man, and Frank Millerâs Daredevil...Canât go wrong with those if your a new reader
For sure gotta pick up some Marvel as I've read nothing from them so far except for a few random floppies.
Thanks for the informative video as always Gem, got me into collecting and supplying me with the knowledge to become well versed TWU!
Death and Return of Dupes was one of the early events that got me into comics as a kid. Think ill have to pick that one up for sure.
Keepin it minty fresh, Doublemint better watch it's back.
You should do a top 10 current imagine comic run. Love the content!!
awesome video man
The Death of Superman was probably the biggest comic event in history. Even here in the UK, it made all the national news stations and newspapers.
I lived in New Orleans and nobody read comics when I was a kid. But in the 90s BSI comics down here sold the hell out of Death of Superman. Great book man. Doomsday dog walked the whole Justice League.
Great vid! Just started collecting myself. So far i have uncanny xmen vol.1, age of apocalypse, wolverine vol. 1, and Deadpool classic vol. 1.
This is a great video thanks, any chance you could one on stuff other than super heroes maybe horror comics? Thanks Gem keep up the great content man.
The #1 comic channel in my opinion.
My 2c as someone who has gotten into omnis hard during this year:
1) See if you actually want something popular as continuity fear is a thing (story calls out to some other events) - for this self-contained omnis are good (The Planetary Omnibus, Invisibles, Gotham Central (seems recently OOP), etc).
2) Is the omni out of print? - this seems an ongoing niggle with most lists such as this since it might be a great story, but if it's OOP then it's not much use.
3) If you're someone who is more interested in the art, you should look around and see which artist works might interest you the most.
4) Used/damaged in shipping/dinged omnis are ok - you can usually score great deals if you look around for omnis that might have their seal broken which drops down the price to silly levels (got the Snyder Batman for 30$
5) Slowly but surely accept that you won't be able to read everything that has happened to historic characters (not to mention many people might see their earlier stuff as being hokey and not a fun read, but it depends on each person).
6) Many start issues routinely are for free on comixology/publisher websites, so it might be a good idea to go through that and see if you think it's worth to put your money down.
IF you'll start liking omnis and are thinking of continuing that route - buy a Kallax shelf from Ikea and resign yourself to the fact that you'll possibly overpay for some OOP items (recently got that Spidey VS Venom omni in the UK, ouch... :)
And remember, have fun! Great vid from Gem as per usual matey!
Really helpful to me being a new collector. In relation to point 4, where do you search for these? Usual places such as amazon and Ebay?
@@FM_FC You need to start getting used to doing the searches through the ISBN numbers via aggregators such as addall.com and bookfinder.com.
As somebody who just getting into reading comics, I see these lists then I go take a look on amazon and so many of these books are just unfeasible for me price wise. I think I'll stick to image comic trade paperbacks
@@My_Toy_Soldiers yeah I get that. It can be ridiculous. Also research is key. Example, I am looking for batman snyder omnibus. Amazon ÂŁ100. Checked around and speedyhen do it for ÂŁ57. Crazy price variant
@@My_Toy_Soldiers also, if you are into image, assuming you've not already read this then get onto chew. Really good concept and a brilliant story
I think the music during overhead shot is fine. I also think it'd be a cool idea if during the overhead shots in the corner there was a screen showing you so we can see you talking about the book while you flip through.
Awesome books! Love all of your videos, as always!
Yo I liked the music, love hearing your thoughts too though. Maybe you could incorporate both. Great video though! I def have a few of these on my list now. Stay happy and healthy good sir!
Stumbled upon your channel, excellent stuff. Love it, keep it up mandingo.
Thanks!
Cheers on the Planet Hulk recommendation, never read any Hulk but been interested in something I might be able to pick up and read
Good stuff as usual. Thanks for sharing
amazing content keep it up bro
Very Solid. Thanks!
Great video, this will get us a lot of new Gemenites ;)
This was awesome Gem. Don't forget the Batman/Robin Loeb/Sale omni also has Catwoman: When in Rome. The only issue I have is now that they have re-issued the Wolverine Omnibus, why can't they get it right? What I mean is that the ideal Wolverine Omnibus would be book-ended by the awesome 6-issue Wolverine: Origin story by Quesada/Kubert/Isanove in the beginning and Old Man Logan by Millar/McNiven at the very end. They also left out Wolverine: Alone from Uncanny X-Men #133, the Wendigo/Alpha Flight two-parter right after Jean Grey's death in Uncanny X-Men #139-140, the incredible Barry Windsor-Smith (cover art only) of The Last Run for Uncanny X-Men #212, the gut-wrenching crucifixion of Wolverine on the cover of Uncanny X-Men #251 (the three most historic comics crucifixions include Conan from A Witch Shall Be Born (Barry Windsor-Smith on the art or John Buscema, I forget), Green Lantern crucified to the tail of a plane in the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams run in Green Lantern/Green Arrow #89), and the Wolverine crucifixion from Uncanny #251); the Return of Weapon X storyline from Ultimate X-Men, and finally the 5-issue Wolverine Goes to Hell. Why they have left all this out is beyond me. I absolutely agree they should include the 3 issues from Incredible Hulk, the Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X storyline, and the Claremont/Miller 4-issue mini-series. Therefore, in my humble opinion, the ideal Wolverine Omnibus would have the following in this order:
1. Wolverine: Origin
2. Weapon X (by the great Barry Windsor-Smith - the only artist from the late 1960s that could rival Neal Adams)
3. Hulk #180-182 (Wolverine first appearance)
4. Uncanny X-Men #133: Wolverine Alone (takes place in the Hellfire Club basement)
5. Uncanny X-Men #139-140 Wolverine solo adventure after Jean's death - introduces The Wendigo/Alpha Flight
6. Claremont/Miller 4-issue mini-series (failed samurai in Japan)
7. Uncanny X-Men #212: The Last Run (featuring Barry Windsor-Smith Wolverine cover)
8. Uncanny X-Men #251 crucifixion of Wolverine
9. Return to Weapon X storyline (Ultimate X-Men)
10. Wolverine Goes to Hell from Wolverine 1-5 (Jason Aaron)
11. Old Man Logan (Millar/McNiven)
amazing video keep up the great content
I own 1 Omnibus and it's the Death and Return of Superman in black đ. I want to pick up my 2nd Omnibus, Mike Grell's Vol 1 Green Arrow.
Great and useful video!!! Thanks
Love the list!
I thought the music was hilarious. Turning pages has never been so dramatic! Thanks for the recommendations.
I"m leaning towards Green Lantern, Planet Hulk and Infinity Gauntlet...stay minty!
Nice video fam, but you know what imma ask for next. Top 10 independent Omnibus!
Your videos are mint. I want every book in that video haha. Just need to find them in the UK
This video helped a lot
For Marvel, definitely overlooked the Frank Miller Daredevil omnibus or the companion. Both work so well at introducing the character and show why the comic medium is amazing.
Almost ready picked that
Definitely going to pick up some of these. Death and Return of Superman for the memories. Green Lantern. I think John's did some of his best creating there. Infinite Gauntlet, never read the whole story. Thanks for the ideas.
Hey I just finished yosts xforce. Had uncanny to look forward. Thanks man.
Great review
Great video!
Thanks for the recommendations. I actually shopped around and picked up most of these books really cheap. I already had Spiderman vs Venom, and I'm waiting for the wolverine reprint. Love your content man!!!!
Thank you for the recommendations. Was mostly a Marvel fan but I wasn't sure where to start for Batman
Hated that back ground music.
Kept making me think an ad had started lol.
Otherwise Great video. Glad I got some of these omnibus.
Who else went to the website, just to discover that every omnibus he mentioned is out of stock lol! Great vid. Really need to stop watching, my wish list is ridiculous now.
thanks for the vids
Happy Birthday, Good Sir! Thanks for this video. Definitely need to add some of these omnis to my collection, but the Hellboy/Mignolaverse is hurting my wallet! The Planet Hulk and World War Hulk: does these two omnis completely close out the story arc? Let me know. Thank you in advance!
Just got my Batman Jeph Loeb Tim Sale Omnibus, LOVE IT!
Solid recommendations
Good tips thanks
Best omnibus for new readers would be something that sparks their interests.
An omnibus video! Instant like. Your omnibus taste is uncanny and amazing.
Gem man your KILLING me with all the must reads/jumping on points that are whales đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Great picks! Especially like Uncanny X-Force, Spider-Man/Venom, New 52 Batman and Loeb/Sale Bats.
Kinda surprised Ultimate Spidey and Whedon's Astonishing didn't make the list. Those are some of the first stories I recommend as they're both great and accessible.
both almost made it
Awesome list
No Darkhorse makes me sad, haha. A lot of theirs have now come out in softcover and are really affordable, although I prefer their Library Editions. Books larger than Omni's for the artwork but not as thick, so they are more manageable. This is going to sound weird, but i fix things for a living, been turning wrenches my whole life. Now that I'm getting fairly old, my wrists aren't as strong as they used to be. So reading some of my Omni's and holding them can be a bit of a chore. Maybe I'm going senile as well, because i have no idea why I rambled through all that, haha.
Love the top 10s đ
It's probably good to have music during the flip-through, but I miss all the background you give on the books while you flip the pages.
Awesome vid
Great vid! My first Omniâs will be that Wolverine & X-Force! đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„
Aye theyâre not going to be my first but definitely will get those Omnis Iâm sure as hell that X-force will sell out in a few hours
You should definitely upgrade to the new Death of Superman Omni. It has the gatefold pages.
I love that Spiderman Venom omni too! Just picked it up.
Hey man. Your my favorite youtube channel for comics. Can you redo this list where you continue to talk while reviewing the book. I listen with headphones and it through me off when it went silent ha
Nice, already have these
Definitely gonna cop that x force omnibus while I still can
These are such great ways of reading a story rather than having gaps or trying to find the other titles that connect to that one story arc, great video man!!đ€đŒđ€
Great video GEM,,,
Didnât think this comics game would be this challenging to get into
Me to I liked it before I watched it because I feel is important to have this videos to bring people in to the hobby. Also planet hulk is top 3 for me ever so happy to see it get love.
Well in terms of your Marvel selections I have managed to pick up 4 of them and other "infinity Gauntlet" being on pre-order together with "Infinity Crusade". Here in the UK the arrival of the reprints for Uncanny X-Force and Wolverine have been rather patchy, to say the least. I had both of them on pre-order since last August. Some Uncanny stock became available "out of the blue" last month and similarly Wolverine suddenly became available last week. Of course this being the Wolverine reprint with a flat spine. What also turned up last week was Amazing spider-man by JMS Volume 2 whose availability in the UK was limited. Talking of limited availability I've got Sensational She-hulk Omnibus on it's way to me! Fingers crossed that my Silver Surfer pre-order is also fulfilled, another Omnibus that has immediately gone OOP.
Oops I should have mentioned another one that became available unexpectedly last week was Amazing X-Men Joss Whedon and John Cassaday Omnibus that was another one that I had on pre-order for many months.
@@leslieturner8276
You've been lucky. I've had each of the books you've mentioned pre-ordered long since. Only JMS Spidey and Astonishing X-Men have been fulfilled. Waiting to see what happens with Silver Surfer.
@@davidgraham8299 I believe that further copies of Uncanny X-Force and Wolverine are going to be available. As to when you get them it depends on you have pre-orders with. Since direct market online comic stores (like Forbidden Planet) will be sourced from Diamond (at least for Marvel, DC is more complicated now they have indicated they are splitting from Diamond), others will get their omnibuses from other suppliers. Typically I use Amazon UK, Speedyhen and Forbidden Planet. I wish you the very best of luck in getting your remaining pre-orders.
