Animal Man, Batman by Loeb & Sale, Batman by Snyder and Justice League N52. Which would I pick? Hmm... overall, I'm not sure I could make an extensive list... but I found Longbow Hunters, Vol. 1 and Aquaman by Geoff Johns very easy to get into as a first-time reader of both characters. (I had read some of Grell's Green Arrow beforehand, though).

Good list. I disagree with JLA by Morrison being a good book for new readers. I would say replace it with justice league international. I just feel like Morrison has too much going on for new readers.

It’s probably one of the more easier grant Morrison books to get into but still deals with a lot of older stories and there’s a lot of miniseries that tie into JLA that aren’t even mentioned in the OMNI, like JLA midsummer. The beginning of the book can be confusing for new readers too because they wouldn’t Understand that the justice league had just broken up and a new one was forming. Theres scenes of the old justice league shutting down shop but it isn’t really explained what happened and the whole backstory behind it. There’s also connections to what’s going on in other series, like Superman being blue, Wally being called Walter and having a different outfit, huntress working with Batman, Diana not being Wonder Woman, etc. while it’s not required to know about those stories to understand JLA, a new reader might get confused to what’s going on. Also you have cameos of characters like the Dream from sandman who a lot of new comic readers might not know who he is or why he’s important because they never read sandman. There’s also a few miniseries for characters like the Aztec and zauriel which are referenced in JLA.

Is it worth grabbing just to see Kyle or will I be a hit baffled by it? Worth saying also the only Morrison book I've read was his GL run and that SUCKED
Great choices. I have them all the except the injustice one. Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol is a personal favourite. The silver age Doom Patrol omni is worth a look too.

@@TBATB no I am afraid not. I left Big 2 comics at the end of the 80s and have only recently come back and started collecting omnis. I must have bought about 100-120 in the last 18 months so have the hugest reading backlog so characters I’m not keen on such as Superman are going to struggle to get a look in. Although have been tempted by Death & Return and will add Up In the Sky to the list. Just ordered Snyder Batman though!!
I LOVE that Geoff Johns GL story. Kind of lightweight grumpy that he retconned Hal being taken I’ve and not killing the GL Corp on his own, but it’s okay. I know he loves Hal so much lol can’t blame the guy
I love love the Tomasi’s Superman Omni. Tomasi writes in a way that feels like a warm hug. I was surprised you didn’t recommend Flash Omni vol 1 by Geoff John’s given the shirt you’re wearing. I’d recommend it.

I’m watching the backlog, even the podcasts you recommend skipping lol But a little positive criticism would be to practice reading your scripts in a way that doesn’t sound like you’re reading it. Try to make it sound natural, like you’re chatting with your friends and not reading them something. I think that will definitely raise the bar of your content and will come off much better. Great video! I do disagree that the Green Lantern book is good for new readers. I was a new Green Lantern reader and when I read that I was just completely confused and bewildered by all of the references to the multi-decade history of Green Lantern. Why the hell was Hal Jordan merged with the Spectre? Why was he an evil guy prior to that? Yes they offer some explanations but they're not satisfying if you're going to be emotionally engaged with the stakes. For me. So what happened was, I had to go down a 3-year rabbit hole to play catch up on the entire history of the DC Universe and Green Lantern in particular! The other issue with Green Lantern is that it's heavily reliant on Infinite Crisis, which itself is heavily reliant on tons of other s*** going back decades, AND there's also a companion series, Green Lantern Corps, which you'll want to read alongside this, so again to me, not good for new readers. I also think the Batman by Snyder one is a tough one, because a lot in there is dictated by what was going on with Grant Morrison's Batman run so it becomes confusing if you're not reading both. Anyway, great video.

I thought green lantern was explained very well, but it’s the first time I’ve seen someone say that about Snyder Batman, I was going to start reading that as my first but then there was 50 robins and this and that and I had no idea who anyone was haha, so I started reading a lot of old stuff and still haven’t gotten to my Batman Omni, which was the first Omni I ever bought haha

It showed enough characters that I could keep looking into their past or future and had all the build up and aftermath of infinite crisis, I’m about to start new 52 justice league soon so it’s good to see it on this list. #doompatrolgiveaway
If DCeased ever gets an omnibus (it will eventually), it will make a great beginner DC omnibus. Heck, any Elseworlds story makes a great beginner story. DCeased, Injustice, and Kingdom Come were the first stories I read since they were self-contained and still awesome. P.S I would have added Aquaman by Geoff Johns due to it's great art, easy story, and cheap price.
@@TBATB I highly recommend it. It will make you appreciate the character of Aquaman. I’m honestly surprised a book this good hasn’t gone out of stock, since it’s been around since late 2018! Other than Aquaman, I would also recommend Flash by Francis Manapul, Wonder Woman by Brian Azzarello, Batwoman omnibus, and Deadman omnibus (though sadly that one is currently out of print as of right now).
The first 2 volumes of Injustice are cool. Then it just because a killfest and drags out. Alfred used a super pill. Not a fañ of Morrison. He is weird.
The JLA by Morrisson was so confusing at the start. Especially when it builds up to the Genesis event and then just skips it, offering little to no explanation about how it worked out. Atleast Marvel always summarizes stuff when they don’t include issues in an omni

I bailed at Court of Owls. That’s one of the most mind-numbingly stupid stories I’ve ever read. See Batman punch a specific molar out of Nightwing’s face! Realize that Dick must’ve never gone to a dentist in his life! (Or they would’ve seen the secret sigil filling.) Watch Batman wander for days through a maze and take more damage than Wolverine! Realize his captors watched him that entire time, even when he took a dump and peed his tights! See the dumbest, most convoluted nursery rhyme ever invented, which has no scansion and blathers on forever! Realize it’s a ham-handed infodump that’s clunky instead of clever! That arc is so bad it makes my teeth hurt. And Grant Morrison? His stuff is cool and all, but for beginners? I don’t think you understood your own assignment. Batman Year One is the only book I saw that actually qualifies for the premise. Maybe another comes later, but I stopped at the Snyder rec.

The downside with Auqaman is that it is a very fast read. You'll want more than 700+ pages.

Gl 1 then GLC 1 then GL2 up to BN then BN then back to GL2 then GL 3 then Brightest day
Technically you could do one issue of GL then one issue of GLC rinse and repeat but this way is easier
You also could just read GL1-3 and get all the major bits and then read the other two both work!!!
