Wow! 20 years... and "Scotty Doesn't Know" still lives rent free in my head. Will prob be humming it on my deathbed. ;)
My friend and I have already planned to watch this on our plane ride to Europe in July 🎉 SCOTTY DOESNT KNOW 😅
@@alisong826 So Don't Tell Scotty!
Definitely have that song on one of my regular playlists.
Just too damn hilarious, and catchy.
I still remember going to a restaurant and hearing "Scotty Doesn't Know" on their in-house music. Also the food was top-tier. I still love that place but it all started on my first visit. Awesome song and a great movie. Also if you ever happen to be in or around Delaware, USA hit up Brickworks Brewing. It's awesome. Best restaurant in the area for sure.
Well my name being Scott, this will be with me forever. Played this once in my car, and the wife was like what the hell is this? So I had to show her the movie. She loved the Matt Damon scene.
Matt Damon in this is probably one of the best movie cameos ever. No one would ever guess he'd be in this and even if they did they'd never guess what his cameo was
I agree with you. Although I think most people would say the best suprise cameo is Tom Cruise in Thropic Thunder. However, off the top of my head, my favorite goes to Liam Neeson in the movie "Ted". I rarely laugh as hard as I did at that moment.
Didn't it happen out of the blue just because he was in the area when they were filming?
Wtf was it really Matt Damon?
@@Ginto_O It's absolutely him.
"Why do you have a chain with you?" To hit French people with. Obviously.
It is so cute that she doesn't have a clue about hooliganism lol
Fun fact: Almost every scene from europe's cities were made in Prague in Czech Republic (country I live in)...so it is for me very funny to see how americans imagine eastern Europe. 😀 And no, you can't compare Budapest with Bratislava. 😀 There are many deleted scenes and alternate ending (where Mieke refuses Scott) and yes, Scotty doesn't know is really very catchy. 😀
29:00 "I feel like she's talking more Eastern European than...Dutch." Well, the actress (Lucy Lawless) is actually from New Zealand, so she gets credit for at least jumping to the right continent!
Erm... excuse me, I think you will find her name is Xena, and she's a warrior princess.
@@backtoearth1983 ...from Grecian New Zealand.
I will assume more east european work as sex workers in amsterdam than dutch women.
Matt Damon was in prague for another project (brothers grimm, maybe) and stopped by the set to say hi to people, he did the scenes while he was there, i don't think he is even credited.
He was the directors roommate in collage.
i believe he wasn't originally credited. i think he wanted it that way.
Definitely start with Clerks. The entire series has a shared timeline, so knowing characters from prior films makes the later ones a much more complete experience. The whole series is great, and I think it'll be directly up your alley.
"I don't know about weiner policy" is the funniest thing I have heard today.
I would have to say, policy in U.S. is "Can't avoid seeing them, but pretend that you didn't notice".
"We have air it's true" Mile Tyson punched me in the funnybone holy shit 😂
True story: I gave my family a personalized tour of the Louvre using Frommer’s (Paris). I also pulled off some really sweet experiences in Italy via Frommer’s (Italy). The bit where the dude memorized the Frommer’s guide book and was able to actually lead a tour group is valid, from a person who habitually uses Frommer’s guides to pre-plan trips. Will provide details if wanted, but I don’t want to wall of text.
I didn't even know Frommer's was a real thing😂😂😂. That's an awesome story.
@@clevelandcbi I can’t recommend a better set of guide books. Thanks to Frommer’s we were able to skip the infamous line at the Louvre by pre-ordering our tickets. I don’t know how well known that trick is now, but when we went it absolutely helped us avoid a movie-like line.
@snakesnoteyes out of curiosity do they only do European guide books or everywhere?
@@snakesnoteyesand do they have online website?
@@Yugioh420 yep! I prefer the physical books so I can re-check and find new things without having to pick up a temp phone (or temp SIM card if you’re not a iPhone user)
If I remember, the director knew Matt Damon. Matt just happened to be nearby and available, so they brought him in.
One of the greatest decisions in the history of filmmaking.
Yep. Damon was filming “Brothers Grimm” at the time.
There's some crazy cameos in this. Lucy Lawless, Rade Serbedzija, Vinnie Jones, Diedrich Bader. And there's a deleted scene with Joanna Lumley
If you want something with a similar vibe, a lot of people also enjoy reactions to American Pie. The 2000s decade was great for those high school/college comedies.
Road Trip definitely a worth watching one.
Eat him, Mitch...
My brain is unable to process that Cooper and Tim from Justified are the same actor.
The only time I ever went 'oh, there's Cooper!' was that scene in season 6 where Tim walks into the bar with that dude Choo Choo and he has the the biggest shit-eating grin on his face.😂
Dude it took me till the 6th season to realize it's him. Great actor!
No way ..I never would.of.saw that
17:26 She called brass knuckles (knuckle dusters) "knuckle jewelry" 😂😂
Among all the “raunchy comedies” this one is set appart on it’s own high tier and deserves to be watched by more people
Yes, definitely want you to see "Clerks".
I know I shouldn't laugh so hard but I die every time the director had to show the kid how to goose step and salute, because of course he didn't know how.
44:55 the line that made me lol the hardest "I kinda just want to have another boy...just to have that brother asshole vibes" 🤣😭
As soon as seeing the thumbnail, I got excited. Knowing you were in Europe, I knew you could give a great perspective on it, which you did.
I downloaded Scotty Doesn't Know as soon as I got home from the theater. Stayed through the credits to find out who the band was.
"Mi scusi," a word I used all across Europe. It don't matter where you go. It's a "fail safe" word.
Perfect line I use traveling abroad with friends, and kick start a discussion on this movie.
The discussion of how likely dudes are to have seen each other's "wieners", culminating with "I don't know wiener policy", just about fucking killed me.
One of my favorites. I'm 39, this was a cool high school movie back in my day. c/o 2003
10:06 Just listening to Mary sings in German (Dutch?) is awesome :D
German... very good german to be exact. As a german myself I was really impressed.
"We have air, that's true." Here with the hard-hitting commentary! lol
Mary is so in tune with this movie, it's perfect
13:51 i love how invested she was and the whiplash of the scene
Yes, you needs to start with 'Clerks'
Since this movie did dirty to your country, have you watched "In Bruges"? It's set in Belgium, has an amazing cast and it's a pretty good movie!!!
She reacted to it three and a half years ago actually. It's only on Patreon though.
Mary, this is by far the all time best reaction to this movie! Your reactions to comedy movies always have me laughing, but you really crushed this one. The entire reaction had me laughing, but the entire time at the Vatican was hilarious! Your reaction to Scott and Mieke hooking up in the confessional had me rolling, lol.
I don't comment all that often, but had to say that you knocked this reaction out of the park. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing what's next!
Mary's "Fuckin A!" with the hand gesture killed me XD Oh my god!
She needs to watch Beerfest, if she wants a good laugh that's the movie for her.
Arthur Frommer was played by Patrick Malahide, who later went on to play Balon Greyjoy on Game of Thrones. I've seen a number of reactions to this film (and I think I have it on DVD) and I always get a surprise when I hear that distinctive voice, in such a tiny role.
Eurotrip, or Balon Greyjoy: The Early Years.
'Wiener policy'. 😂😂 It's wit like that that separates the great reactors from the lesser ones. Sorry to hear you're having a hard time with CZcams.
45:32 best scene ever i fucking love it
lol - she sang Die Prinzen 😅
My high school German class thanks you for bringing back that memory.
3:50 That was pretty cool. Most people don't pick up on it. It's awesome to see a European reacting to this movie.
12:14 in the UK its 18, but you can drink in a pub with parental permission at like 12, but in your own home you can drink at the age of 5
Omg Mary this movie is both funny and ronchy and I am glad I got to see your reaction on this it was awesome 😊
Wow! This is just perfect! I did not expect this reaction. Love to see this trend , as Eurotrip is my favorite teen comedy!
You’ll love roadtrip and all Kevin smith movies are great
This is an underrated teen comedy.
I put this in my top 5 raunchy comedies of all time
Scotty Doesn't Know is a bop for real
Your GASP at 40:22 is so funny! You were invested!
BEER FEST! OMG you would love that one.
Holy shit, I’m just now realizing the guy who stole Jamie’s money and passport is played by Diedrich Bader. (Despite the German name, he’s very much an American.)
Aaand she starts singing Die Prinzen songs. :D Kudos to you Mary!
You know I actually learned that in high school in German class 😂 we were so weirded out by our teacher putting this on that it is engraved in my brain forever
@@MovieswithMary Wow we listened to them in German class in America too, I looked it up and apparently they had some deal with German textbooks
@@MovieswithMary Die Prinzen in German class? What a time to be alive! Next up: Die Ärzte - Männer sind Schweine in sex ed. xD
If you would like to watch a movie set in Belgium, you need to watch In Bruges. It's a dark comedy drama film.
Beerfest is a must!
Scotty doesn't know!
Does she figure out who it is in the first 30 seconds?
@@thoughtfulstargazer People won't type 'FIRST LOLOL' if you cut them off right away 😉
This song almost alone carried the movie from relative obscurity to cult status. Almost, because there's also Vinnie Jones, Fred Armisen and Lucy Lawless.
Amazing movie. It really is true that you could not make this movie today. Not without being canceled or somebody getting offended and wanting your entire life to be over anyway.
I’m pretty sure that’s Thomas Lennon (Lt. Dangle from Reno 911, and has had a million different bit parts) playing the robot mime.
Absinthe doesn't really cause hallucinations. It's just high in alcohol content.
Roadtrip is very different from Eurotrip. Beerfest is probably the closest movie. Beerfest was made by the same crew that did Supertroopers. Jay and Silent Bob movies are interesting. I believe they call it the Jersey Trilogy aka View Askewniverse and the movies are (in order): Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike back, Clerks 2, Jay and Silent Bob reboot, and Clerks 3.
4:50 That mime goes hard
12:24 which is still insane to me. Because how strong is beer in Europe? (Asking as a New Yorker.) 9% alcohol by volume. A mix drink could be just as strong as a regular beer.
Had a friend name scotty in jr high when this came out. . He was tortured with the song
😂😂😂 This movie did to Scotts what the Karate Kid Reid to Daniels (me) in Karate Kid lol. I was "Daniel-san" for years.
You absolutely need to do the Kevin Smith movies in chronological order. Starting with 'Clerks'.
Maybe not *all* of them (Tusk, Yoga Hosers, Cop out come to mind), but the View Askewniverse is an absolute must! In chronological order, too, of course. Perhaps skip the reboot and Clerks III, as that was a letdown, but I digress.
Nut shots are underrated in times of need.
Oh you have to do Beerfest, love your reaction videos
And now I have two earworms XD Those being "Scotty doesn't know by Lustra" and "Deutschland by Die Prinzen" XD I can really recommend watching the l'auberge espagnol movie series.
There is always 'European Vacation' the sequel to 'Vacation'...
I believe Road Trip and Beerfest are made by the same people. Dodgeball is an instant classic. Rat Race is an all star nonstop crazy ride very much in the same vein as this (albeit much less spicey).
If Mary was Scoot, the film would end in 10 minutes because she knows that Mieke is a woman's name in deutsch
The European aspect is interesting and welcome. TY for the reaction!
Watch Roadtrip. Eurotrip was like a sequel/spinoff of Roadtrip. But the characters in either movie have no relationship.
You need to watch Boogie Nights, brilliant cast. Matt Damon was college roommates with one of the writers of Eurotrip. He was in Prague, filming another movie and agreed to be in the film last second. One of the best cameos ever. YES! You need to watch Clerks and everything else in the View Askewniverse, in order. Legitimately some great films.
I don't know which is my favourite, this or National Lampoon's European Vacation. Road Trip is very funny too.
Mary!! You watched Euro trip!?.. I'm gonna love this because I love your reactions and this film and the soundtrack is just so much fun. Enjoy chica!. I know I'm gonna love this reaction.
For the "view askewniverse", Clerks is a must watch. Mallrats is a decent movie, but not my favorite, although some of the later movies reference them so decide on your own if it's worth watching. Then Chasing Amy is after that which has some really great performances by Ben Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams and a scene with Jay and Silent Bob that is integral to that movie that I won't spoil. Dogma came out after that, which you've seen, then it's on to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which is right up your alley for comedy I think.
12:27 'Australia enters the chat'
Yes yes yes, Clerks is a must!
Scotty still doesn't know . One of my friends scotty just moved away a couple weeks ago when we all saying that song to him at his going away party
And now, you know
One of my favorite movies, and you are definitely my favorite reactor.
Loved the reaction!!!!!
Yes, Clerks is necessary!
Scotty doesn't know! Scotty doesn't know!!
There are 3 movies, Eurotrip, Road Trip, and Boat Trip. None of them are even remotely related to one another, but they all have the exact same vibe and they're just fun comedies (though most people have never heard of Boat Trip... I like it though. It has Cuba Gooding Jr and Horatio Sanz in it.).
How is being a mum keeping you ? Hope everyone's healthy and happy 😊
Road Trip, just Married, There's something about Mary
shouldn't miss any of these
I legit still rock out to Scotty Doesn't Know in my car from time to time 😂
YES start with Clerks, then Mallrats, Then Chasing Amy, Then.... YES watch please.
Mary, lesson for you, make sure to always watch till the end. The outtakes in the closing credits are hilarious.
Are "Die Prinzen" a thing in Belgium? It´s the second time i heard you singing their song. I´m from Germany by the way...
mary knowing to the lyrics to an old Prinzen Song made this for me
Thats mile high klüb to you! Hahaha. I loved this movie when I was growing up and partially what I attribute such wonder to visiting Europe whenever I can.
Love Vinnie Jones in this one. Such a great hooligan.
Check out ‘Fools Gold’ with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey!! Definitely worth the watch
Better than the first one with tom green, jesus i hate that guy i don´t know why people was laugh him about in the first movie. Watch also Mardi "Gras" Spring Break,i put it like that because i don´t remember how to spell that haha.
English drinking no.. we went up to Scotland to really drink in some local pubs. THAT is where we had the most fun.
AMEN .😂😂😂
Aussies would like a word too. but it really depends whats in the glasses on who wins, Beer, lager, whisky etc
Just once can you calm it with the anti-English sentiment. I'm Irish and even I think its getting old and boring
Beerfest is great on its own.
If you are going to get into View Askewniverse (Kevin Smith's movies), you really should watch them in chronological order. It will make more sense.
you absolutely need to see the ultimate belgium movie... "In Bruge" its unironically a masterpiece
She reacted to _In Bruges_ three and a half years ago. It's only on Patreon though.
Okay, if you want to start with Clerks, and you enjoy it and want more, the timeline is as follows:
- Clerks
- Mallrats
- Chasing Amy
- Dogma
- Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
- Clerks 2
Then, I'm pretty sure it goes Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, and then Clerks 3. Don't quote me on the last 2.
But I can almost guarantee that you'll enjoy them all, but especially Dogma, which is also available for free by several channels on CZcams. This is because Kevin Smith would rather people enjoy his movie for free (he doesn't copyright strike it) instead of allowing it to be distributed professionally, thereby financially benefitting one Harvey Weinstein, who still holds the distribution rights.
Mary singing: "Das alles ist Deutschland". Me: "Fuck"
Gotta start with clerks!
Yes, all of the Clerks movies, please.
Hahaha I still remember after 20 years that ''Excuse''
48:57 yes indeed.. they will 😂😂😂
