MEGALODON Caught On Camera- real or fake

  • You guys have been sending me all kinds of links to Megalodon pictures and videos… but so far nothing that would prove megalodons still exist today - but then this came in.

The video uses the title “Megalodon Caught on Camera” and it was sent in by a whole bunch of people starting with Nicole Stewart, Kirby Games, and creeperlicious123…
It shows what looks like a huge huge shark at the bottom of the ocean - but is this really a living Megalodon? Or is this maybe just a another mega-hoax? Why don’t we just dive in and see if we can get to the bottom of this…
    MUSIC UP
Taking a closer look at the video, we see it claims this video was recorded in the Pacific ocean at a place called Mariana Trench.
SThe video shows us what looks like a camera feed from a remote underwater location. There is a strange structure on the ocean floor and a huge fish coming in from the right side of the camera.
Although we do get to see the fish for an extended period of time, we can’t really accurately measure it’s size. There is nothing in view that we could use to show us some scale.
I did a little looking around a bit, but couldn’t come up with much on my own, so I turned to Billschannel chief researcher Kyle Darkkova.
Kyle poured over dozens of webpages and followed this story back to it’s source, which brings me to this… the official answer.
But before I can tell you what the verdict is, I want to hear your answer first. So what I want you to do is… Yell out you answer either real or fake as loud as you can. Now if you’re the non verbal type or in class or the library, it’s ok to pause this video, go to the comments section, leave you answer there and then come back and watch the rest of the video…. ok… now no cheating… you ready and Go…
Ok, and now the official answer and here we go… The video showing a giant size fish at the bottom of the ocean has been examined and unanimously agreed to be a real video… but the fish shown in the video has been misidentified… it is not a megalodon and therefor the claim that is a living megalodon caught on camera is... fake.
Ok, I can understand that? But if it wasn’t a megalodon, what was it?
As it turns out, what we are looking is a piece of video shot by Japanese scientists sometime between 2000 and 2003.
According to multiple sources, it wasn’t shot in the Mariana Trench, but rather Suruga Bay which is not far away.
In this article from Russian publication Pravda, published in 2003, we get the real identity of the fish. it says, The researchers put a container with some smelly bait on the bay bottom. The smell of the bait attracted a shoal of deep-water sharks. But then the sharks scattered in all directions and researchers saw an incredibly huge monster on the screens of their monitors.
It turned to be a 7 meter or 23 foot long Pacific Sleeper shark. This is one of the largest species of sharks in the oceans but it is rarely seen because it spends its time in very deep waters.
Here’s another video of sleeper shark recorded at 9100 feet (or just under 2800 Meters). When you compare this to this, you see it is indeed a sleeper shark and not a Megalodon.
Ok, well that’s another Megalodon sighting down the drain. But don’t worry, this video has a happy ending because… I have a t-shirt to give away….
Ladies and genttlemen, this is an official Mothman t-shirt from the mothman museum in Point Pleasant, Va.
Now, unfortunately I only have one and it’s a large -- but hey, if you’re not a large you can always make a gift for someone else…
Now all you have to do is send an email to billschannel@gmail.com and say “mothman lives” anywhere in the email.. subject, body, I don’t care…
In a week or so we’ll pick a random winner and let you know if you are the lucky one!
Ok, that’s all the time I have this week… see you next time!

It is not at all clear what the megalodon was like, because the only thing we have of it are its teeth, even the size and shape of its mouth is an approximate thing, it is not at all known at what depth of water it lived? All the theories of scientists about the way of life of prehistoric creatures are just speculation, for example, they say that all dinosaurs over 15 kg around the world were destroyed by meteors! But why did the crocodile survive? With that big body? Answer: Because he was both cold-blooded and saved from the heat inside the river ..... So why did the other reptiles in the sea not survive and all of them perished? I say that creatures in the control of living things always have a hand in what survives or what is destroyed .....

@@khashayar8084 we have a very good idea of the way dinosaurs lived just from their fossils. Want to know why crocodiles really survived? Because they’re cold blooded AND they can go 3 years without eating. Dinosaurs needed very large amounts of food daily for survival, just like humans. They didn’t survive because the cataclysmic event drastically changed the environment of earth and many species died out that other species were dependent on to stay alive. Thus, thousands of species died out, not all at once mind you, but over thousands of years. The extinction was not a 1 time event that wiped out everything in an instant. Many survived, but many were not able to sustain themselves on the reduced resources.

It is a Six-gill shark. This species have been recorded to grow in excess of 20 feet. They are a deep-water species. One of the original posts that included a portion of the video, claimed that the bait cage used was approx. 6' x 6' in area (no indication was given as to the height).
If this is the case, then it is easy to estimate the length of the pectoral fin and the height of head and the length from vicinity that fin to nose. If it is indeed 6 feet, then my estimate of total length is about 55-60 feet.
On the other hand, if the bait cage is 3', as is stated in this current video, then I estimate that the shark is about 30 feet in total length.

  • @TheBlanco951
    @TheBlanco951 Před 7 lety +5

actually the footage has been analyzed again and it turns out that experts are not sure if it is a sleeper shark because it is too big to be a sleeper shark. Sleeper sharks are 20 feet in length and megalodon is 50 feet in length. The Cage with the bait measures 10 feet in length, and according to new estimates the shark in the footage is greater than 20 feet. It is approximately 50 feet in length, so therefore it can be called a megalodon. However, whether it is a megalodon or not is still not certain, for it may be a 50 foot sleeper shark.

I think it's a real video but not a megalodon. Looks like some sort of deep sea seven filled shark probably a close relative to the Greenland shark, which would make it about 12 to 15 feet long maximum. I think, but I'm not an expert.

This is a sleeper shark. They prefer depths of about 6,500 ft and look like that because they live in the dark. In the situation it looks like it swam to deep and is stuck there. The Mariana trench is 35,000 ft deep and the deepest a share can swim down is about 10,000 ft. Gravity is his enemy today.

Not fake. Known as a sleeper shark. Only 23 feet as the measurement conversions were off. Not 3m but 3 feet for the cage. Still a big shark but not a crazy Megalodon nor a fake.

Omfg that footage is sooo 2008...that's a Pacific Sleeper shark aka Greenland shark....they're pretty big but are only 1/3 the size of a Megalodon....Greenland sharks don't even look like Megs...Great white sharks look more like a Meg because they are a modern relative to them....not that anyone even knows what a Megalodon looks like since their presence is only marked by their huge teeth.
