  • Follow along in this video as I replace an ignition switch in a 2014 Audi Q7. This procedure should apply to any Q7 between 2006-2015. This was my first time doing this repair and I could not find any in-depth videos of the switch replacement. I decided to make my own DIY video. It's a pretty straightforward job and shouldn't take longer than 1-2 hours. Hope it helps, and enjoy!

A note for anyone removing on an 08 there are 2 more screws for the MMI dials & screen located behind the parking assist & screen off/ glove compartment buttons

Thanks for this! I’ve lost the end of my key and can’t wait 2weeks for Audi to send me a complete new one for my 08 Q7. A salvaged ignition/door lock and key+fob would just be a complete swop (no programming) wouldn’t it? Cheers

@@TheAgTeam Unfortunately swapping just the ignition locks and keys will not work. You would need to swap virtually every other major module such as Engine control module, body control module, etc from the donor vehicle as well. The modules are locked to each other and will not work if separated.

You don't have to program anything in the computer?

Hi mate, was wandering if you could assist.
I have no power to anything on my q7. Started other morning as normal drove up road, heard axillary belt making noise saw it was loose on the hub started to chew itself so quickly pulled back home as alternator light came on. Pulled home turned car off. Since then, no power to anything, key is almost locked into the car as if the car were In drive. I can't remove it. No power to lights, locks, doors, screen dashes etc. Up until this car had been working battery always seemed OK etc. Have checked some relevant fuses. I had tried to see if car had no power by hooking up a separate battery to the jump points but no it only sparked / smoke no power to anything. I have heard about canbus modules failing / no power etc. I'm at abit of a loss due to it being our family car and money being short. If you have any insight that could help me I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Dsn

It's possible that the alternator shorted for whatever reason. You can try disconnecting the power cable from the alternator and seeing if that makes a difference.

@@SamsRepairRoom Hi Sam, I tested with anothrr battery (thought back to basics) and to my surprised it's all turned on. Could it of Been possible the alternator had surged and blew the battery? I would of thought their were failsafe like pyro fuses and the likes to prevent this type of thing but it seems to of completely drained my battery. Though surprisingly it seems to be recharging outside of the car so very confused!

Di you use an aftermarket ignition switch or audi oem or used?

I used an OEM switch purchased from Audi. No need to program, just install and go 👍

You forget to show us the screws behind the switches

Some models do not have the screws. I believe the older ones such as 2007 2008 Q7s do include the screws behind the switches.
