  • From its vast array of fantastic tones, to its minimalist design, the Yamaha THR30W is quite possibly the best practice amp on the planet. I’ve had the pleasure of owning the THR10ii for about a year, and then I upgraded to the THR30W and I love using the amp! I’ve played the amp on some gigs, used it as a Bluetooth speaker on a pontoon boat and have used it for countless hours practicing. The THR is my go-to amp and I’m glad that it exists! In this video I show you five cool ways to use this fantastic piece of gear. Use the chapters below to find the part of the video that is most applicable to you.

    After i bought my THR30II it's been the only bit of kit I've needed. I recently sold my Helix because it was taking up too much room and not getting used! The THR is really that good. Probably the best amp ive ever owned. If i broke it today I'd go out and get another one tomorrow.

      Yes! The THR is definitely my desert island amp. If I had to get rid of all my gear, this would be the one thing I would keep. I've got some new THR videos coming soon...I'll be running a variety of pedals into the THR so you guys can hear how versatile it really is.

      @@jordanthomasgray I’m a beginner and only have the Roland Micro cube GX and it’s got great clean tones but I want a 3/band EQ and I’m thinking the THR10ii would be sufficient for my skill. Space is a big part of my decision as well or I’d probably get the Boss Katana MKII. Also, I don’t use or own a PC anymore so having a mobile app is a necessity

      @@greg6162 If you don't plan to gig with it, the THR10ii is a great choice. The THR30ii is not *that* much bigger if you're worried about space. It still fits in a large carry-on bag. I tour with my THR30iiw and it's loud enough to fill a room of up to 100 people (depending on the room), and for any larger room it has lineouts on the back to feed to the house audio. I'd suggest getting one of the W models (wireless) as they have internal batteries for playing outside or at venues with no power available, and having a wireless option (Line6 G10TII) means I pick up and play the guitar more for practice, and can walk around stage no problem.

    Believe it or not, I bought the THR30ii for my floor harp and it sounds amazing! I can get a nice clean tone where is sounds just like my harp, but amplified - it's hard to find a amp that covers the range of a harp well and shockingly, this one delivers. It was impossible to get any advice online, since almost nobody does this so I researched for months before I finally pulled the trigger and I'm so glad I did. Because not only can I amplify my harp for it to sound like it naturally does, but I can add all of these amazing effects and it sounds so sick!

    From the moment I bought mine, I'm having such a joy playing guitar again, specially when diving into these kind of tones. This unit really shines in bringing all the sound and timber characteristics we all appreciate in guitar tones, a few tweeks and its ready to rock! Your channel truly inspired me in getting one of these, I can now rock anywhere, whenever I want, without the huge pain in plugging my pc, interface, plug-in so I can rock for a bit. .. It really brought me into that "practice for fun" phase again, which I truly missed. Thank You Drew 🙏

    I agree, this is a great piece of kit. It's easy and immediate to use and sounds really good. It sits nicely in our living room, crowded with wife and kids, It's also being used as a bluetooth speaker as well as the speaker for my turntable via the aux in, love it. I do miss a looper function (there are work arounds, but too complex for an otherwise easy to use amp if you ask me) and I'm tempted to add the airstep YT. (Is there any reason I should consider the airstep lite instead of the airstep YT?). But the most important feature: it makes me play every day.

    Really liking this amp but I have no idea how to get started with Cubase. Its downloaded but not very intuitive to use. I'm a total beginner but I could not get the THR to work as a monitor on my Surface. Maybe have to go into the computer settings like you did. Also can't run CZcams while Cubase is open for some reason so I have to close out to troubleshoot. I've been connecting with the USB, maybe I should try using the bluetooth? Anyway, not the primary reason I bought it but I wish that it was easier to plug and play into the DAW. Have all the drivers downloaded.

    I use this amp for my elecric violin and i am very happy !
    On the other hand i am a bit disapointed about the sound quality and sound options when using it just as a bluetooth streaming device ... the sound options like equilizing in the app are very limited ! I really hope Yamaha will extend these thru an app up date soon ? Do you expect that will be happening ? What is your opinion ? Thanks ! 🎻

      I'm glad you are enjoying the amp sounds with your violin, that's awesome. I don't know when they will release a firmware update that expands the bluetooth EQ for the THR, but that's a great idea. For most practice applications or streaming applications, it sounds fine to me, but more control of the EQ would be nice. Thanks for your comment.

    • @DrewCreal
      @DrewCreal  Před 2 lety +2

      The Line 6 Power Cabs are great but they're kind of expensive. I would look into EV ZLX or ZXT lines. Grab yourself a 12" or 15" and you'd be plenty loud. They cost around $450 USD. Headrush also makes an FRFR that looks pretty good, though I haven't played it yet. For a controller I would go with the XSonic Airstep, rugged design and easy user interface. Good luck!

      @@DrewCreal it will degrade eventually as all lithium batteries do. You’ll definitely get a few years depending on your use, but eventually it will degrade and I can see being able to use AA/AAA batteries would be a better option but that wouldn’t affect my decision for this amp because it’s more of a bedroom practice amp first and portability is just a bonus IMO. Yamaha makes quality products all around and I’m probably going to get the THR10ii to replace my 3w-Roland Micro Cube GX as a practice amp. Just because this has a 3/band EQ is huge for me. I don’t have or use a PC anymore and the fact this has iOS app is just the icing on the cake for me. Do I have the same modeling options on the THR10ii as the THR30ii? Hey guys, as an alternative to the Yamaha bag, try a tool bag from Lowe’s or Home Depot. Cheaper and very useful, with room for some accessories in the 17-18 inch size bags. Cheers.

    I know this is an older post but I wanted to know, if you know. Does using the line outputs defeat the speakers? Or if I were to use this to run directly to a PA, is there a way to have no sound from the speakers but still send a signal to the PA?

    • @DrewCreal
      @DrewCreal  Před 2 lety +1

      Sorry for the slow reply Brandon. Using the line outputs does not defeat the speakers. You can still get sound out of the amp when you're running 1/4'' cables out of the back. Hope that helps!

      @@brandonflanagan3318 I am using a Headrush MX5 multi effects pedal right now for the past few months. I am really growing to like it more and more. I am mainly using it for my Martin 000-15 but occasionally drag an electric guitar in for certain songs. I am the only guitar player! It’s taken me a while to dial in a really good acoustic tone but I think I am going to keep the MX5. And I can save different rigs and name them for each song in the set list.

    Can you plug a Drum Machine or a Looper pedal into the Aux ?

    • @DrewCreal
      @DrewCreal  Před 2 lety +1

      You probably would want to plug the looper pedal through the main input, so you can look your guitar parts. You can definitely plug a drum machine in the Aux, great idea.
