- The Nigel Marven trilogy concludes with my review of another of my favorite dinosaur series from childhood, Prehistoric Park. (By the way, I realize now that I was incorrect in calling this series a BBC production and cannon to the Walking With series.)

I sent a letter to Nigel Marven from the US and got a response a few years later. It was handwritten and included an autographed photo of him. He even apologized for the delay, saying he had been busy filming but was glad I enjoyed his adventures. Overall he seems like such a cool dude.

Remember almost crying when i found out it has only 6 episodes, with todays visual effects it would have been amazing to see a continuation, especially when you can easily blend CGI and practical nowadays.

Nearly brought me to tears when I found out that there were only a few episodes when I was 8 years old. Ever since that day, I've been hoping they return to make more of this. Not likely, but the child in my heart likes to dream.

Well here in 2019... well if anyone has watched the Sea Monsters series... I think they should do a remake of the series... and the idea is that Nigel and the others are once again sent on a Mission back in time to capture both aquatic and land animals, and bring them back to the present for Scientists to better understand the creatures that once lived in our planet...

I grew up watching the show. And as little kids minds are, I thought it was real. Then when I was around 7, I found a book about the show and in the back of it it showed all the animitronics they used in the show. I felt just as disappointed as when I found out the truth of Santa.

There were more episodes planned and looking back, I wish they would've done them. This was such a great series and I really think it had the perfect kid-friendly Jurassic Park vibe and an outstanding cast. Nigel Marven as a host is obviously the best choice possible. The man just has a talent of staying authentic. Being a real life zoologist, he can bring the fascination behind animals to life like no actor could and interacts really smooth with the animals in the show. Perfect! Suzanne McNabb being a real life veterenarian also really helped with making it feel authentic and educational and Bob portrayed by Rod Arthur injected some great funny moments in the series, which made it just all around a great experience to watch.
These people carried the series just as much as the fascinating animals did and I would love to see them back, if BBC would ever decide that its about time to do a thing like this again.

I remember playing with my friend from school and pretending to be scientists from the park. We stuck cool-looking sticks in the ground as a portal and pretended to get chased by creatures after saving their big stone egg.
Dang, I used to think this look real. It looks good considering the budget and time but I used to think it was like actual footage.
I came into this thinking it would be just a cheesier Jurassic Park, but it's actually a whole lot better and the people are actually smarter than those than run JP and look like they're actually competent to handle these creatures. For one, they don't have too many predators, they have contingency plans for if Terence and Matilda break out (Which Matilda does), they actually do their goddamn research and feed Martha proper food and give her a herd to bond with, and for crying out loud they treat them like animals instead of spectacle unlike everyone in Jurassic Park.
True it works out! I just wish there was more of prehistoric park!
My thing with this show was, why did it end after 1 season? Like wth they knew it was quite popular. I really wanted to see more, I’ve been disappointed since then, because it ends on cliff hanger with Nigel walking through a portal.
Primeval did better, and was continued over this. Quite a shame, honestly, considering the further it went on, the worse it got.
Yeah its really sad that it was never continued, and I want to see more. I am working on my ideas for more seasons.

I still think Prehistoric Park could have got away with more episodes. There are so many different kinds of dinosaurs and prehistoric beasts that could have gotten the spotlight if the episodes made it past 6.

I revered Martha as a god when I was young. Got a plushie that I still have to this day that I named Martha.
I agree with everything you said. I wasn't a child when this came out, but I was still impressed with the computer animation during the time, and the stories were top notch imo.
The Carboniferous was my favorite period too. I hear ya on that one.

I remember this series from when I was a kid. And now, here I am as an adult 20 years later, still hoping that they do a second season just so I can learn about more awesome prehistoric animals in a way that is different from the usual documentary style...especially animals I have never heard of or know very little about.
Bear in mind, this one was made for ITV, rather than the BBC, though the production company is the same.

Nigel Marven is always just a treat to watch. I don't think Chased by Dinosaurs, Sea Monsters or Prehistoric Park would have been nearly as memorable as they were without his involvement.
I'll be honest: this show aired when I was, like, nine or ten, and I thought this was real. I thought Prehistoric Park was a place that actually has a time portal that actually let people go back in time to bring prehistoric creatures to the present. Once I asked my mother where Prehistoric Park was, hoping we could visit there someday; she said it was in Wisconsin (hahahaha!). Obviously, now I know that this hasn't actually happened and will probably never happened, but it really shows the realism the show portrays (even if only of the special effects) and how inspiring it is.

I got this on DVD from a supermarket called Sainsbury's here in the UK when it first released. I remember it saying that it's a Sainsbury's exclusive on the plastic wrap which I later found out wasn't really true, but I had to grab it anyway because I was obsessed with dinosaurs. I had to sneak and place it in the trolly (shopping cart) because my parents didn't like it when I try to buy DVDs VHS tapes or Video game. Luckily my dad let me have it when we got to the cashier he sighed and questioned me about it and looked at the price and said it was quite expensive and I had too many dinosaur stuff at home, he nearly got mad but let me have it in the end.
Nice story and probably it was an exclusive edition, not that the series itself was the exclusive.

Having seen Prehistoric Park first, I kind of wanted Nigel Marven to guest-star in an episode of Primeval series that came later.
He actually did, in an episode featuring a giganotosaurus which eats him.

My only gripe with it is the cliff hanger ending, made it seem like Nigel was gearing up for another adventure, and we don't get to see it.
Mitchell Skene I don't think it was meant to be a cliff hanger. It just implied that the park goes on as usual, Nigel went back for more animals and everyone else had to deal with them.

Holy shit, I haven’t seen this since I was a kid. And when I say kid, I mean very young. This was my childhood, and taught me so much. I was obsessed with dinosaurs at the time, so it was exciting. It’s always been in the back of my memory, and I found this video today. I specifically remembered the portal and their dinosaur sanctuary/zoo. Thank you for posting this.
