Awesome, dude! Never really paid attention to this song musically -- usually too busy rocking out to it or pondering the meaning of Desdenova and the lyrics! Seeing you play it on the bass really makes the genius of the music apparent.
Desdinova is a character from the imaginos storyline. Astronomy is the story of Desdinova getting his bearings and starting a long journey with his friends to find this "dark mirror." Sandy Pearlman had this song and many others in the Imaginos cycle running through his head since the early 60's.
The preamp has a switch to go from Active to Passive. Typically I've been playing it in passive mode, but I think I went Active (with a little Bass EQ boost) for this vid.
Mmmmm, delicious tone, can't go wrong with a multiple grands Fodera though )) I love bass players like Jimmy Haslip, Andrew Gouche, Richard Bona, Ricci Fierabracci, Rob Pagliari...But now i remember why i started loving bass the first day, this is a smoking example of Newsted's sens of melody, he lays them down at the right time&place, with grace and skills. Maybe you are going direct for this video, but what amp do you have for when you rehearse and play live?? Cheer from Morocco
How do you like the neck on that, and what is the string spacing? I'm considering an old Fodera 5 as well and I'm curious how it feels in your hands. Thanks!
That open E sounds like magic
