- Clara draws a strawberry daifuku vendor at Asakusa, visits the Tokyo National Museum to see terracotta Haniwa funerary objects, and Pigment Tokyo, a stunning art supply store with an extraordinary wall of paint pigments.
Clara stumbles upon a pineapple slushie cart, run by identical twin brothers in Lisbon, Portugal. With watercolor and a handy water brush, she sketches the pineapple cart and brothers.

Japan is really an artists' heaven wow 😭
Yes, it's truly extraordinary what they have there!
I am floored by the care they invest into preserving traditions and materials!
I would be the number one fan of this show
Ty so much for your support!!
Omg tysm for your support!!
I need more of Clara's art adventures! These are my favorite videos to watch.
Fun fact crushed carmine bugs (harvested from cacti I believe?!) make a pink red pigment traditionally used in watercolors and oil paints!
Oh wow! I had no idea about this, so cool. Tysm for your support, more to come!
That is so cool to hear, I had no idea!
I would love to watch a show like this! ❤
Awww Tysm, I hope I can make it happen!
tysm for your support!!
1:54 this is the single most helpful piece of advice i’ve ever heard about sketching on location!!! i’ve never thought about looking for a composition that jumps out at me, but it makes so much sense!! i’ve always ended up fighting with what i’m seeing and the places where things are, but now this has me really excited to try plein air again!! you have so much wisdom about art and traveling, thank you for sharing it :D and your strawberry vendor painting is so atmospheric, I feel like i’m experiencing the vibe of the place rather than just seeing a still image ✨
Yes! Sooo many things out of your control painting on site, you have to take what’s already there 😀
Terra cotta plushie!!! Oh the joy!!
I love him so much!!!
This was delightful! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Tysm!!
Ohhhhhh, I loved this!!! Those baby frogs and terra cotta plushy, hehe . Ok, this needs to be a Netflix series already!! 🤩
Yes please!!! That's my goal, I'm hoping to try to connect with a production company somehow, it's all so out of my wheel house, but I'm going to try!
Working on it!!!! Tysm for your support!
I love your finished Strawberry Dfuku piece. It’s so beautiful :’)
Tysm! It was super fun to draw😀
After going to that Pigment Store you’ll need the 7 step recovery program at Artists Anonymous!!
I am "glad" that there is an ocean between me and that store! 😂 I think if it were nearby I would definitely have a major problem hahaha
Let's just say I am "glad" there is an ocean between me and that store😆
@@ClarasArtAdv You’ve ruined us now as we all now KNOW it exists vs something we were dreaming of going to!!
Loved your comment about finding the old and new in contrast; my mantra when I was in Tokyo in Ja/Jone 2023. Thank you for pointing out faces on all sorts of things, especially at the Tokyo National Museum. I'll be doing more of that on my next museum visit.
Yes it’s extraordinary to me the layers of old and new in a city! Have fun at your next museum visit!
Very enjoyable video - I love Japanese culture and you capture a little chunk of it here in your art work. 👏🏼
Thank you so much 😀!!!
Yum yum!
❤️❤️❤️
Those mochi were sooooo soft and tasty!
Hi Clara! I have a set of Tombow markers. I had no idea they were water-soluble. Thanks for the tip 🙂🙏
You’re welcome 😊! Tombow does make alcohol based ones as well, which I have found very handy combined with watercolor.
So fun to activate them with water! Tombow does make alcohol based ones that I like using with watercolor, they blend together beautifully.
More adventures yay!
Yes!! More to come!!!
yeah!!!
I enjoyed this soooo much!
Thank you! I had such a blast working on this!
Tysm!!!
Absolutely love this video, Clara! Excited to follow along with this series! 😊
Yay, thank you!😀
I'm so glad! Tysm for your support😀
Wow now I wanna try the strawberry daifuku too! I'm excited for more videos 😁
omg it was soooooo soft and practically melted in your mouth. Makes all the mochi in the US feel like rocks hahaha!
soooooo soft and yummy!!
Wow- this video was both educational and super fun to watch! Love your perspective
Glad you enjoyed it! Tysm!!!
I’d watch it!! So good!!
Yay that's so great to hear!!
Tysm!!! I know I have a long way to go, and it still feels like a ridiculous pipe dream, but I'm still going to try!
I can't wait to see more videos like this!
Me too!! Travel is the perfect combo of culture, food, and art!!!
I have so many in the can, just need to clone myself to get them all edited😆
This is awesome!
Tysm Manette!!
Tysm Manette!!
I wish i could go to Japan in one day at the future ❤
It’s so surreal, amazing!!
Those frog sculptures were so adorable! Always love your Tombow painting/drawings. The way you faded out the rest of the image to keep the Daifuku vendor as the focal point is fantastic.
Thank you so much 😀! I laughed so hard when I discovered those frogs, I knew I had to paint them.
The frog sculptures were what convinced me to paint the stand, so cute!!
😊 What a great video! Please do more like this. That store was beautiful…and overwhelming !
More to come!!!!
The only reason I left was because I had to pee and my feet were falling apart😂
I loved watching this video! I feel like there's always amazing things to learn and see when visiting other countries but this blows my mind! Japan is definitely on my bucket list to go and visit now. I love your vendor painting too Clara - So gorgeous and captures the essence of the place perfectly ❤️ from Australia
I feel like travel is the best form of education, every minute you’re in another country you see something new, so fun!!
Tysm for your kind words!! Japan is just the most extraordinary place, I find it "hard" to believe that it exists!
Delightful video, I loved the fun tourist moments interspersed with cool insights about appreciating art and creating images!
Thank you very much for your kind words!
Travel is the most amazing combination of experiences, my fav thing in the world!
Love the art travel channel!!!! Congrats
Thanks so much!! Can't wait to do more!!
Ty!! I'm so excited to start building this😀
this was recommend to me I think because "pigment lab" is my dream place to visit. But the intere video was so cool! you are so cool ❤ I love the strawberry paint.
Thank you so much!! I hope you get to visit some day!
hahaha thanks CZcams! 😆
Did you purchase any of the Kuratake or Boku-Undo watercolors? I wish that you would have a video about using them. They behave so different to most other watercolors. Should you only try to have one layer with these paints? Have you tried adding glycerine to your water to delay them drying on your paper? I especially love the shadow colors.
I haven’t! I guess I need to book another ticket to Japan😁
😯 the daifuku picture turned out so cute I never thought of using markers instead of paint in situations like that (even though it shld have been kind of obvious lol)
I think the paint brush with the really tiny hairs is for Japanese lacquerware, like the black lunch boxes with gold leaves and stuff
ooooh thank you so much for that explanation!! Their lacquerware that I saw at the shops at Kappabashi Street were amazing.
Things are never obvious until we know about them😆
Loved the video. Honestly spending only 200 in that art store is impressive. There was so many cool paints I would have gone broke at that store.
I was having major heart palpitations when I was in that store, I have no idea art supplies could have that type of impact on me!!!😂
I was VERY PROUD of myself😆
Omg!! I watched and followed your anatomy video myself and for my junior high students. So glad to find you under another category “traveling Japan for art” 😂❤ I used to make something with your sculpting video on, now I’ll be trekking along where you’ve traveled. Call me a stalker I don’t mind 😅
How cool! How funny, I'm convinced as artists we live multiple lives. 😀
hahahaha that's so cool to hear!! I have waaaay too many projects going on, but everything is just so FUN!
Hi, your shop is closed currently, but I was wondering if you offer a print of the Strawberry shop in your website shop. Thanks

Tysm!!
Let me guess: when you saw the Pigment store, you wanted to live there 😊
Actually I didn’t, I would be totally bankrupt within a month! 😂🤣
