  • PR206 watercolors, featuring Daniel Smith, Michael Harding Watercolours, Sennelier, Schmincke, Winsor & Newton, The Prodigal Son's Pigments and more. PR206 is a cherished red pigment that sadly, we will be seeing less and less. So before it becomes fully inaccessible or before it fully disappears from the market, I want to honor its contribution to the watercolor community. #watercolor #watercolorpainting #pr206watercolor #watercolour

    Some of the brands featured in this video have already switched to modern alternatives such as PR179 so please read the paint labels before checking out. I’ve had these tubes for a while now so all of them still indicate PR206 as pigment.

    My favourite pigment ❤️‍🔥 so lovely to see all the versions, I have a tube from Daniel Smith and it’s nice that they still have stock instead of replacing the pigment as soon as the announcement was made. I hope to come across some old tubes of sennelier, winsor&newton and schmincke 🤞🏻

      One of mine too! ❤️‍🔥 If you’re in the US, Blick’s web and physical stores may still have PR206 from the brands that you mentioned except Winsor & Newton. I have been stocking up on Michael Harding’s Cinquasia Maroon. Speaking of online stores, you may also order PR206 from A. Gallo via their company website or Jackson’s Art. On the artisanal side, my preference would be PR206 from The Prodigal Son’s Pigments. It is just really smooth and delightful to work with. Richly-pigmented too!

      It is heartwarming to realize that we share an affinity for this pigment. I agree that they're all beautiful. My top three from this group would be Michael Harding's Cinquasia Maroon, the Prodigal Son's Pigments' Quinacridone Russet and Sennelier's Permanent Alizarin Crimson Deep. There is a rumor that Sennelier makes Jackson's paints so I won't be surprised if their PR206 is just as beautiful.

    Although I see beauty in PR206 it’s not one of my palette staples. But I will cry literal tears if there ever comes a day I run out of PO48. Can you do a future video on PO48? Maybe include quinacridone gold hues if there’s room on your swatch sheet to show off the range of this delicious orange pigment.

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Oh, I understand! I love PO48 and it would be saddening on my end as well if ever that day comes, which sadly, may happen. Our access to these pigments is not promised so if there is anything we've learned from PO49, PR206, and all other pigments that are hard to come by now is that we need to enjoy them while we can. I've been mulling over the idea of a PO48 video. What I can share so far is that I have an upcoming video that will showcase an artisanal PO48 watercolor. Hope it is something that you will like too! Thank you, as always, for being here and for all the support!

    it's one of my favourite pigments, such a shame it's discontinued. try to mix it with phthalo turquoise. they mix into perfect neutral gray without granulation

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  Před 5 měsíci +2

      A sad reality indeed and I am still not warming up to PR179, the generally accepted PR206 alternative. I'll probably just look for something else. Thank you for the mixing suggestion and I am certain that someone reading the comment section will find that useful! I use a different pigment to create my neutral grays. One thing about me, I am not crazy about Phthalos.

    These are all beautiful and the Michael Harding version seems to have a really high pigment load. I bought several tubes of the WN permanent alizarin and it is amazing for how different that pr206 is from the russet versions. I need to rummage through my Sennelier paints and see if I have a tube. Thanks for another lovely video.

    One of my top 10 favorite colors! That Michael Harding swatch is exactly why his paints and I don't mix. I got a few colors and they all had binder issues no matter how much I mixed it together. They were so sticky and I paid too much money for that to happen 😂 if it was one or two, I'd be okay with it...but it was 4 of the 7 I bought. My favorites are Daniel Smith, A. Gallo, Prodgial Sons. I love them all so much! 😍 I have Winsor and Newton but it's not my favorite brand for PR206.

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  Před 5 měsíci +1

      PR206 is one of my top pigments too and it's saddening that it won't be around for a while. As for Michael Harding Watercolours, if you've been watching my videos, I intentionally leave my brush marks every time. This time, I left them for landscape watercolorists so they could see the possibilities of texture and warm with this pigment. Cinquasia Maroon is perhaps the most exquisite PR206 from this group. And Quinacridone Russet from The Prodigal Son's Pigments. I can empathize with your predicament though. Michael Harding's paints always require a learning or adjustment curve but once you figure things out, you'll appreciate watercolors and pigment formulation as a whole from a broader perspective. In my case, I've waited all my life for him to produce his own range of watercolors.

    Why is it, or will be discontinued? Lovely to watch also paint from very unknown brands to me. Luckily I have a supplier for Roman Szmall paint in my country (Netherlands) as tax and shippingcosts are getting crazier each time. Too bad🤷‍♀️ but thank you for showing them. ❤

      The availability of pigments for artists relies heavily on global demand for pigments for the automotive and beauty industry. Suffice it to say that there has been a decline so we will be seeing PR206 less and less. Winsor & Newton has started switching to PR179 as PR206 alternative. Thank you for being here! ❤

    Does anyone know if Daniel smith has a stockpile of pr206 like they did of po48?

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Most likely they have stocked up. Not speaking for them but from my understanding, John Cogley is a forward-thinking CEO, surrounded by business-minded and very futuristic professionals too, so there is a reason to believe that they may have a healthy inventory for years to come. "Limited size" is understandable but it is fair to expect that they'll be fine in terms of PR206 stock for some time. "While supplies last."
