  • Lava from Kilauea has finally reached the Pacific Ocean after traveling about eight miles from the TEB vent on the East Rift Zone. Lava had not been reaching the ocean since the start of the year. The ocean entry is located outside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in the Kalapana area near the end of Highway 130.

Excellent! The cracks are certainly ominous of a possible collapse!

We take for granted that this stuff is beneath our feet, no matter where you live. What a fantastic planet.

Water has surprisingly little effect on molten lava.

Why do I find myself rooting for the lava flow to succeed? Each time the water quenches it I think 'Ah! Too bad.'

I wish he showed much more of the last clip
I love watching the water go over or onto a huge blob of lava & evaporate like that
