      @@brandonkales2973 yep I'm on there pretty regularly, if I ever get around to building a few more I'll post then up there. Don't know if I'll get to it this season I'm in a new area now so it's going to be a lot of covering ground to find new spots to set up a line

    Thought they looked like Bruce's . I bought couple of his folding ones for bvr and otter. They work !

      @BigBeavrSlayer  Před 6 měsíci

      Oh yes Bruce’s traps are absolutely top notch I love them. They are one step above comstock only only because they fold that is the ticket for packing them in the brush like I do

    This was really cool. I have Comstock cages and also have so gravity door style cage. At the cost of cages on the market I decided to make my own as well. This is the first time I’ve seen a comprehensive video on cage making. Especially water traps. I like the design. I was lucky enough to get to go to Jim Comstocks home and meet with him and get cages directly. A very cool experience I assure you. The man know a lot about cages and trapping. Thanks for making the video it was great. 👍👍

      Jim's cages are awesome, I have ran a few of them. they are spendy like most other cages on the market and that's why I built my own as well. They work awesome, but Bruce's traps are the best in my opinion because they fold down flat. my next trap I build for beaver and otter I'm going to find a way to incorporate a folding mechanism into them

      Thanks for mentioning us and for your support. There is always more to learn about animals and traps, so I am all ears and eyes. Always interested in ideas. When Marcus said 3/16 rod I know he meant 5/16 rod, which in Conibear sized rod and 1/16 heavier than the 1/4 of course. The 1x1 fourteen gage mesh is adequate for the door, while we use the heavier 12 gage 1.5x1.5 for the body of the trap. As Marcus mentioned, big beaver may sometimes bow the wire a bit, but like a conibear, can be bent back into shape with a small amount of pressure. The 14 gage 1x2 is o.k. for coon and bobcat as we found out back in the 80's, but fisher would eat it for lunch. I was pretty embarrassed some years back as we learned the hard way when a bunch of fisher destroyed every cage we had set. I know some would understandably believe that a cage is a lesser device than conventional gear, but after using cages you find out that it just isn't true. Just the opposite. Cages are super, often better than conventional for beaver, otter, bobcat etc. We have used cages for beaver for 13 years now with no thoughts of going back to conibears. Cages are bigger, but they set so much easier with incredible versatility and consistency.

    • @BigBeavrSlayer

      the hinge is just a pair of 3/8 nuts welded on each side to the main frame with the door frame run through them so it swings freely before the springs are added. i have another video showing the door assembly as a stand alone
