Height Of The Water In My Pool

Dale Kreviazuk from UV Pools explains how high your pool water level should be. You might be wondering what height the water level should be at in your swimming pool. Some people gauge by a fade line on their pool liner or use a stair on their staircase. The best way is actually to use the skimmer face in your pool. So, what we have here this is a typical pool skimmer, normally we'd have a plastic skimmer faceplate not tile. The water level here is almost halfway up the skimmer a little bit lower so in this pool, the water level is actually on the low side. You want the water level between 1/2 to 2/3 of the skimmer face to be under water. What can happen if your water level is too low in your pool is that your pool pump can start to suck air which is not a good thing, it will cavitate, and can potentially run dry which can cause it to burn out.

The pump can still circulate but debris will be too high to be pulled in skimmer

No nothing bad will happen except debris won’t have a chance to go into the skimmer basket. Too low, not good. Too high, just extra skimming with your net on a daily basis. Thanks for your dumb question lol
