I am a pen person. I watched this vid. But the best EDC pen in my opinion is going to a japanese stationery store and writing with every pen they have on that display (they have hundreds of test pens and paper). Guarantee you whichever pen you settle on is the best EDC pen. :P And it'll be different for everyone.
Unfortunately, I do not live anywhere near a Japanese stationary store. Sounds like right where I need to be though.
I got the sharpie metal barrel shiny one and it does fit energel refills, you just need to use the spring from an energel pen (for some reason). I've loved my sharpie pens for a while, but I've just gotten so many bad 1.0 refills from them, the energel 1.0 refill is far superior, and it fits perfect with the sharpie pens i love.

@SurvivingtheDaily The Pentel Energel Style Alloy pen is also great. I just put 1.0s in it instead of the 0.7. So between that and the metal Sharpie I have a nice twisty and a nice clicky. For a decent price.

I hand write notes on EKGs, airway management, medications, anything critical care i have at least (1) 5 subject notebook filled to the brim. I also fill out our stations log book every day for years.
The black metal barrel is hands down the best pen I have ever used. I buy a 12 pack every paycheck for years now. Got hundreds stocked at home & the station locker.
God I love these pens.

I have a gold colored energel pen I really like and I actually prefer the sharpie refills. Maybe it writes a little better with the heavier weight of the aluminum shell than the normal plastic sharpie shell. I do use the blue .7mm so maybe that helps also. But I do really like the energels also and appreciate that they both fit each other.
That's too funny. You like your pen in the complete opposite configuration. Honestly I love the sharpie S-Gel but feel the energel is marginally better.

Between you and me the japenese pens are too fancy. I need an EDC i can quickly buy at walmart and use right away and won't be sad if I lost it.

Unrelated to this video but thought you might still be interested. Amazon screwed up and sent me the wrong pen but I opened it and tried it anyway based on reviews. Zebra Sarasa. Full metal body and bit of heft. I got a 0.7mm in black gel. I will say I am extremely impressed and really digging it. Feels really good in the hand and has that nice gel ink.

I am one of the 5 people who love pen content and made it through to the end. My EDC pen is a Parker Jotter. Just can't seem to find an acceptable reason to switch that out.
I'm with you in the fact that I find something that I really like and never want to change it out.
I mostly use the Everyman mini click with a Schmidt pressurized refil
Everyman is over priced Chinese garbage. Customer support is non-existent.

I have yet to pull the trigger on fountain pens. Another expensive hobby that I don't need to get into.

Plus, to be honest, I mostly am doing math so fountain pens aren’t the best for that use either way. I have a Twsbi, kaweco, and the Gravitas pocket pen in titanium. If I could do it all over again I’d just get the gravitas; ink capacity and cost are incredibly great and the thing will last a lifetime. But still; if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
I picked up some of the Sharpie S-gel pens with a red metal body, and they don't fit the Energel refills unfortunately. I can shove them in there, but they are too tight and get stuck so they won't open and close normally. The Energel pens are really nice tho as I grab a pack of those to try in 1.0 mm. I'm going to see if I can find an Energel Pro to try as that looks like it has a metal body.
Yeah, the chrome tip sharpie S-Gel pens don't take the refills for whatever reason. But the all black metal barrel pens do.
@@SurvivingtheDaily Ah, I got suckered in by the cool red ones. I'll see if I can find a black one, as the metal body does feel nice. My wife and I both are pen nerds so it's fun testing them out.

@@SurvivingtheDaily I did get an Energel Pro pen from Amazon today and you may like this too. All metal body and obviously would fit the Energel refills. As a bonus, it came in this cool flat metal pen box that may make a nice EDC container for small personal care items to tuck into my backpack.
Great video. This might be a long shot of a question, but do you happen to know how to disassemble the upper barrel of the S-Gel entirely? Like, taking out the plastic grip piece, clicker, clasp, etc?
For context; I work in a powder coating facility and am able to use some of the lab samples for personal coating projects if I wish. I wanted to powder coat the metal barrels with a new coat, but need to remove the plastic insides first. Any insight would be very appreciated. Dropped you a subscribe either way.
