This is why I have my own pool
Cablelinenetwork I'm too poor to buy a house with a pool.
Lol
This is another reason I don’t swim in the ocean
This is how I would've made "Finding Nemo;" No cutesy kiddie crap; just straight-up terrifying horror.
Lucas Davis 😂😂😂😂😂
you'd enjoy Subnautica
These things originate from southern Europe and has spread to South America, to Africa and all the way over to China and Japan.
They amassed substantial amount of wealth during these trading and colonizing endeavors, so its not so strange they just hang out, lazily in the waters nowadays.
Hehe, I get the joke. Viva Portugal!
Herr Hansen nice joke
brah napoleon troops came and took it all
MY BOATS
A friend of mine and I used to joke than Man O Wars communicated by squeaking. This cracked us up more than it should've. We used to say we'd go fishing in a small boat and be surrounded by squeaking Man O Wars. They don't seem to squeak, however.... :)
Not even funny
It's amusing and cute, lighten up
I think it's the gas inside the top of the jellyfish escaping that creates the squeaky noises.
Aajajaj Hhhg *not jellyfish
The is OUTRAGEOUS!!! 🤣😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣🤣
I still felt bad for that poor fishy :c
Damn nature you scary
LOL
God dammit someone already said that!
No
Quran 31:11 (This is the creation of Allah. So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error).. allah created this scary nature.
Nature : no u
I think they're fascinating, how they produce gas to float and they are made from multiple orgnisms. They're have such vibrant and amazing colours!
I got stung by one of these in Florida and damnnnnn that shit hurt
How does it feel to be stung by one?
Roger Tully I've heard it feels like being branded by hot irons
Roger Tully it feels like something is digging into your skin, it also has a burning feel to it. When I was stung it wrapped around both of my legs and my arm since I reached into the water to get it away from me.
It hurts like hell. I'm Portuguese and was on Terceira to visit family. We went to the beach, went swimming, then all of a sudden I feel like I put my whole leg into a fire. It sucked and the beach was closed a little while later for the amount of them in the water.
I get it. I got stung as well, and it felt like fire.
It's a necromorph basically.
Not really, they don't take over other creatures bodies.
They are siphonophores
No.
So this is what the Romans meant by "here be dragons."
jellyfishes have got to be the most underrated animal on the planet. some can technically live forever by recycling organs while this fella is a whole colony! thats just cray
Can you imagine, you're fated to specialise solely in eating for your entire whole life...
Tentacool, I choose you!
I've been stung by one of these, screamed for help through my snorkel whilst being temporarily paralysed, forced into agony absolutely horrible creature I can't explain how much it hurt.
Same here!
"man-of-war" was one of the biggest naval war ships back in 18 century. Maybe because of the top that looks like a sail and the buttom tentacles consisted of a lot of deadly poision (cannons) it was cold the man-of-war. Dont you think?
just got stung by a live one in Oahu and it was the WORST pain I have ever experienced in my life. Arm started to feel paralyzed 2 hours after the bite. And the sting areas become welts that showed up again 5 days later. The healing is literally a week long process. So much more respect for the ocean.
I was learning about this at school today
NathanXDeleon wow, remember that?
had one of these get stuck on my hand and arm up to the elbow and that was the first time I ever thought I was going to die. lol. felt like my heard was on fire or it was going to explode. put gasoline on it and that helped a little.
I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago
In Portugal we call it "Caravela Portuguesa", literally translated as "Portuguese Caravel", because of the thing in the top of the body that looks like a sail, a name that makes much more sense then "man-of-war" if you ask me...
Fascinating
This is why my favorite channel is nat geo wild
That's a whole-lotta NOPE! 😬
that fish got him some bubblegum. lol
favorite animal or organism depending on how you look at it
These things hurt like hell! Got stung last week
Dang you must be a survival
I am 11 when I went to the Canary Islands, Tenerife in specific.I got stung by one worst pain I've ever felt, and hopefully ever will feel
Wow.. very strange yet , impressive.
Tugas assemble!
so its kind of a hybrid
These hurt realy bad I was stung by a dead one on the beach so UT was less toxic and less painful than a live one but it still hurt realy bad
Yes,they hurt really bad I was stung by one and I had to go to the hospital for 3 day before I was released. It is true.#Ouch
I unlocked dark matter for my Man O War 😋
Possibly named after the frigate, so more towards 'a dangerous encounter in the sea', as oppose to a single man.
Just spotted two big ones here on the beach in daytona,Florida!!!! The ocean has been mad.. High tide and just aroaring...
I was stung by one of these
We see these things on the beaches down in Hawaii sometimes, I've seen entire beaches close down because of these little guys floating around near shore. Sometimes they end up in the sand and get burried until they look like little bubbles.
They're not that bad
+Zero Calibur i live on the east coast of america and got stung the other day by something in barely calf deep water, it was murky so i couldn't see what it was, and i never felt anything to cause the sting, just felt an immediate rush of stinging/burning wrapped around my ankle.
just wondering, what kind of jelly fish that would be? or if theres anything else out in the water capable of something close to what i described
Zach Harrelson It could very well be a Portuguese Man of War. They show up a lot on the beaches around Florida. After you felt the stinging did you see any red, whip like marks on you leg/ankle?
Zero Calibur kinda, but it looked more like a ring around my ankle, i couldn't find any specific marks though and any pain felt the same all round my ankle.
just the weird part was not feeling a tentacle or anything at all in the water or around my leg, just a sudden burning rush
Take care of yourself... And do not touch them without protective gloves
Yes. Yesterday at the beach tons were washed up and we held them up.
Whats the guitar song at the start? Sounds awesome.
My mother was strung by one. It was horrible.
Obviously a copy of my perfect species
We are a lot cooler the u
oh we have lots of these in our beaches here in Portugal, I’ve seen it but usually it’s rare someone’s getting hurt cause we know they dangerous.
It literally is Legion.
man of war is a kind of ship, so it does make sense :)
great!!! ")
why are they so pretty?
I remember being on a beach after a storm once and thousands of these things had washed up on the sand. Blue sacks on the sad for as far as the eye could see.
As the guys was explaining the *zoids* (dont know if I wrote dat correctly😂) I felt like they are cells that think independently but also coexist as A hive mind of some sort
Got a tread from these around my waist while snorkeling, damn thing looked like the lash from a whip a minute later. Beautiful but painful animals.
let the nightmares begin....
Anyone know the guitar melody played towards the start?
Well, a Man-of-War was a powerful warship from the 16th to 19th century that had up to 124 cannons, this animal is named after that for the reason that it is a dangerous animal with lots of weapons.
so this animal is made out of several other animals... whoah!
Caught one of these nasties off the coast of Panama City, Florida. My dad didn't know what it was, and thought that after it died it couldn't sting, even though it was still Alive. He tried to sting me with it.
it looks like in the movie war of the worlds the concept of alien machines came from physalia physalis "Portuguese Man-of-War"...
Having a WEIRD feeling w/ this jellyfish. @_@
I need to find pictures of the different animals that make up this creature individually
Wikipedia says that siphonophores exist at the boundary between colonial organisms and true multicellular creatures; but where is the line drawn, exactly? If the zooids are all even developed from a single embryo, what makes them distinct organisms?
My brother was stung by one of these on a snorkeling boat ride day in Mexico.... it was not fun to watch!
i bet the fish is like "THE END IS NEAR! ITS NEAR!!!"
Cryptic99 poor thing looks like it is absorbed alive . Terrible way to die
these things seem like super jelly fish
We get a lot of those in hawaii. 😨
These things are so pretty, if a safe distance is kept.
"Sworms of thousands" sweet baby Jesus, stop this planet & let me off now!
Ya dey hurt a lot.
I was at Piha and there were thousands of them washed up on the beach!!! Some of them were even alive!!!!
It was named after a battleship . Because it has a vast crew of different organisms.
Cool
add to my favorite animals
i got stung by one it really hurts it feels like you burning being shocked then it feels like flat out like you been stabbed by tiny sharp needles
A "man-of-war" or "man o' war" was a term for powerful warships during the age of sail.
Looks like a handmade blown glass ornament
It resembles a ship called the Man'o'war
man-of-war is an expression for a British Royal Navy powerful warship or frigate. It was a powerhouse in the 16th. So you can guess why its called that
im wondering the same thing... it just seems like every other animal cuz in a way our cells are the same thing as the man of war's colony
Why have I never seen a horror movie based on this creature?
I GOT STUNG BY ONE
HOW THEY FILM THIS???
The man-of-war was, in fact, a 18th century ship.
Maybe if you listen closely, that "monster" what you call it has more organisms in it...
Jellies are fascinating. They don't have brains. They seem to straddle between plant and animal worlds. In terms of a food source made up of different organisms and living symbiotically into a huge colony would be kefir curds.... They produce a fermented, sour milk beverage originally from the Caucasus
This is technically not a jellyfish, this is a colonial organism.
McLovin McW It's a siphonefor
Man-of-War is a boat bro.
daaaamnnn and i thought jellyfish were dangerous
Nature is strange
here's an interesting fact.the jellyfish's name is actually from a ship called Man Of War.you can google it if you want and check out the similarities :)
A one man army lol
So like a Megazord?
dont do it LOL
I hope they battle alongside us (Portugal) if we go to a battle...
It resembles the band Man-O-War cos they're made up of more than one organism
yeah but be careful
its like Voltron
Organic Borg aquatic construct.
It is Physalia sp.
My mom got stung by one of these once
questo animale è terrificante
ma allo stesso tempo mi affascina
so let me get this straight... It's not one animal? it's a ton of little animals?!?!?!
Hell no, not going to swim in waters where this thing is
Jennifer Harris That would be all of the Caribbean and more lmao
most of the time they just go to a zoo or aquarium and get tonnes of footage. The balance of stuff, they look to external sources to get in the wild. There are supposedly people all over the world constantly recording things and Nat Geo or whoever will buy the footage
I just want to take a neddle and poke that
Playing AC4BF and search for Man-O-War This Showed UP :D
That's pretty dang sad... Just kill your prey, don't kill him SLOWLY... GEESH
Portugal is my country xD
