Absolutely awesome idea. You should be collecting a check from Ronin. I seriously wasn’t interested in buying it until you showed your technique with the tubing. Brilliant, brilliant idea my friend.

If you’d pop the vent on your drain pan it will be able to “breathe” and wont gurgle oil up like that.
You mentioned at the end of the video my biggest question… does it get all the oil out and that answer is no… I really like this as a “no mess” option but I’m sure that main plug isn’t designed to be removed over and over to get “all” the oil out. Plus your losing that velocity that comes with just pulling the plug and getting all the gunk out in violent push… really enjoyed the video and great job!! 👍
I got myself some Fumoto drain valves because all my trucks made messes. My 2011 F150, 2006 Silverado 2500, and my 2018 Tundra all made messes. The Fumoto valves I got have little nipples and caps that snap on them to keep the dirt out. So far they work great. It’s been several years, but I think I paid about $20-$25 each. Yours looks more robust, but a little more difficult to get the hose on.
Those factory plugs, are one time use

Should make it a lot easier to get a oil sample for analysis with Blackstone or Speediagnostix what size hose are you using?
I think putting some oil or Vaseline on the nipple would help the adapter spin inside the hose.
I'm hoping that Fumoto adapts their oil change valve to this Ford plug soon. I think it is a better solution. It's a ball valve vs a screw in plunger. Other than this both do the same thing. Check out Fumoto.

Unless youve made the mistake of dropping that OEM plug and getting a shower, I don't know if its possible to fully appreciate this bew aftermarket plug lol
Exactly! I was able to avoid the "oil bath" the first time, but to have the oil splashing off the sway bar is a horrible design. I'm convinced it was the engineers last day at Ford, and this was his finger to the company.

With that plug you could drain it into a jug and ready for recycling with no pan needed.
Yes...if you had a very very large jug. My F-150 5.0 holds 8.8 quarts of oil so I'd need a jug that holds over two gallons. You could certainly use smaller jugs but then you'd have to stop the flow, switch, and then open the valve again...twice. I have a similar valve on mine (the new UPR valve) that is stand-alone with no need for a second piece that may get lost. I love it. I find it easier to just drain into my pan and then dump the pan into jugs to take to recycle as opposed to starting and stopping the flow to switch-out jugs. But both ways would certainly work.
@@dewrus2153 Yep, My 2020 F150 held 8.8 quarts of oil too, but at 26k miles it was eating 3-4 quarts of oil over 2,000 miles. So I didn't have to drain that much out of it during oil changes. Makes oil changes much easier.
@@user-zq6pj5jo8j - Ha! I have to give you credit for optimism...that sure is a good way to finding a silver lining in having the oil consumption issue. I have over 30k miles on mine and fortunately, burns zero oil. Have you had any of the TSB's done? I've heard that sometimes solves the problem and other times, does nothing (depending on the root cause).
@@dewrus2153 Yes, The dealership did all the testing and did the TSB's but, ended up needed a new Long block(Full engine) But the wait time was 8-13 months back ordered before i could even order mine. On a almost new truck, this was not ok with me. So i had the dealership do an oil change and washed it and i traded it in and bought a new GMC...:) This was my 3rd Ford "F" series truck and all 3 had major issues. I'm done with FORD.
@@user-zq6pj5jo8j - Oh man...sorry you had such bad luck with your F series trucks. I'm on my third F-150 and have had the opposite experience. I bought my first new one in 2002. I then bought a new 2004 when the body style changed and my daughter then got the 2002 which she still uses as her daily driver today with over 200k on that little 4.6. I drove the 2004 for 16 years and loved it...super truck. I traded it in on my 2020 four years ago and my 2020 has been flawless. I guess sometimes, it's just the luck of the draw. My neighbor just traded his Silverado in on a Tundra...it was only 5 years old and was on it's third transmission. Anyway...wish you the best of luck...hopefully your GMC will treat you well. I noticed there was a little oil on both the inside of and the threads of the gold protective cap when you removed it; does it seem to you this particular valve 'bleeds' a little oil between changes? I like the solution but not sure I like that.

What size of hose did you purchase to place on the Ronin drain plug??

My 2019 3.5 ecoboost has a metal drain plug with fine threads, and it drains on the side. I guess I can't use this plug.

Yes it does!
It depends on what oil pan you have. Some 5.0's have plastic pans like this design (and use this type of plug) and some have aluminum pans that use a standard oil plug bolt. If you have a standard threaded bolt, then get a Fumoto valve...they work great.
