With the Vault located, Alyx and Russel hatches a plan to bring it down by sabotaging the numerous substations feeding it power. The first one of these is at the top of a long-abandoned hotel called The Northern Star, whose guests include numerous Xen creatures who don't take kindly to Alyx's intrusion.

Notes:
- The "Lightning Dog", or Reviver as it is officially known, is a new enemy first introduced in this game. It is briefly seen scuttling across the elevator door at 0:19
- The "pustules" first encountered at 7:17 can be triggered by walking close to them, then backing up to a safe distance before they explode. Alternatively, shooting them will also cause them to swell; enough gunshots will trigger an explosion
Trivia:
- The piano at 1:22 fully works, and players can play entire songs with the appropriate keys
- "Flight of the Bumblebee", as mentioned by Russel at 1:24, is an actual orchestral interlude
- The outside of the hotel can be glimpsed at 16:00 as the Combine walls open up. In the last chapter, "Superweapon", the Combine walls were closed and it wasn't possible to look down onto this area
- Odd sounds can be heard emitting from the Combine prisoner pods at 19:19. Later on in the chapter, it is revealed that Vortigaunts are trapped inside these pods and that the Combine are using the pods to "extract" the vorts' energy for their own uses

I mean, watching this video is already like watching stuff Hollywood doesn't make anymore - awesome sci-fi action movie. With a plot. But that moment? Me: "This isn't Jonh Woo's game, right?"

I love that we can hear the Reviver interfering with Russel's comm even before it's more explicitly demonstrated, when it crawls up the elevator shaft
Am I the only one who thinks the Xen grenade plant is in some way cute? I mean, I want to rub that belly, lol. Xen fungi/flora is very amazing... So that's what I think about that one Breen's quote... "Carbon stars with ancient satellites colonized by sentient fungi. Gas giants inhabited by vast meteorological intelligences. Worlds stretched thin across the membranes where the dimensions intersect... Impossible to describe with our limited vocabulary!"

Near-dead Revivers move and sound exactly like a wounded dog afraid of being kicked, and I know that if I ever played I would have real trouble killing them once they start trying to get away.
My fascination with xenobiology in fiction might be showing again, but I'm loving the design on the revivers. They look vaguely squid-like, and they bleed blue like a horseshoe crab. Kudos to whoever designed them.
Yeah, the animations for the Reviver are great. Really, this extends across the entire game. The Combine soldiers move so fluidly as well, I was really impressed during combat.

I like how Half-Life: Alyx has so many references from HL1 and HL2, even some of the classic iconic soundtracks are included. It makes you appreciate playing those games back in the day 👌
