  • In this video I finish off the wooden barn owl wings by building a maple shadowbox frame for them. This piece will be on display at Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco starting Dec 15, 2018, through January 4, 2019. If you are in the Bay Area, go check it out!
    Thanks for watching,
    Michael

      I’m making a new shadow b 0:56 ox for my dad’s Korean War (Army) medals and patches. He would have loved that his daughter made a frame.

    that's alot of work for the face to hold the glass in. just curious have you just cut a piece that you need to hold the glass to be glued to the face. for example. 3/4 sides with a face of 1 1/2 by 1/4 inch thick glued on .

    Michael - the shadow box is gorgeous!! Few questions for you:
    1. What are the dimensions of the lip for the plexy?
    2. What size wood did you use for the to hold the plexy in?
    3. did you use double sided tape so you can take everything apart if needed?
    I want to mount a NFL jersey in something similar and really like this approach!
    thanks

    So I do not have a table saw. But I would like to make a shadow box with a glass or plastic front like the one you designed. Is there any other way the inside pieces could be cut for the front glass to slide into without using a techie saw?

    • @MichaelAlm
      @MichaelAlm  Před 4 lety

      I have made them where you glue the front on, so the front of the frame is a wider, separate piece which basically forms a rabbet. Does that make sense?

    I'm so happy that I found your take on making a deep shadow box!! Your art and your wood working are both lovely and enjoyable.
    I need to make some display boxes for some of the pieces my daughter has made and some in collaboration with another artist. It will be fun to get them done when the universe aligns with a new saw installation, wood selection and acquisition, and when temps subside long enough for me to be in the shop or the air conditioner is installed, whichever of the last 2 comes first. Haha
