No one told me where to find all the files I needed or what to do if the data folder and exe file were missing. No one clarified anything, and I was so lost. Then you made everything so clear, told me how to get those missing files and put them where they belong, Now I don't have to live in fear of starting a new game all over again or go back to a time before SKSE in Skyrim. Yes, THIS was my Achilles Heel! That Damned SKSE that needs to be install just right or it's game over before you even start!!!... I kinda fell into THAT TRAP a bit too late, being new to Elder Scrolls, Skyrim, and Modding in this game. Guess it's very important to not install Steam's version at all, and only install it the way you recommend.... Now I'm off to just push it all into the Recycle bin and clean install it from scratch again (Uninstall/
    Reinstall; Skyrim, main 3 add-ons, and 3 free HighRes updates), along with ALL of those other programs I got from Nexus... I only found out AFTER not receiving any conflicts that my SKSE was not working or responding properly until the start of game, when it tells you what is working and what is not working... Ooooh, what's Not Working?! BUT --- Live and learn! ;)

    I never really understood what was so complicated about the installation for this. A couple years back I installed it manually just by following the readme instructions, and to me it seemed simple and clear as day; I mean all you're pretty much doing is dumping a couple of files into your Skyrim folder... and even now with the newer version its still as simple as day. Your video pretty much does exactly what the readme instructions say (sans the mod manager part of course), however it hadn't occurred to me that I could change that ugly icon! Thank you for that. This video is really detailed, so its perfect for someone who has absolutely never even modded Skyrim before or probably hasn't played it yet.

    What i love about your guides is that first of, even if there has been updates, these instructions are still valid and you cover most of the "what if" scenarios like if you don't see or have this, simply do this.
    This guide is what i would call "Instructions For Dummies" and i am incredibly thankful for them.

    Gopher, I want to thank you for helping me take my "playing" to the next level. It helped me understand SKSE Install etc. But, now I would like to learn to mod. I can write dialogue and branch them, set up conditionals on player and target, etc. But, setting up even the most basic script is beyond me. I do not have creation kit set up properly. There is so much stuff out there that I assume is outdated and I think trying them is damaging my sanity, if not my system. Is there a good tutorial you would recommend?
    When I cannot get
    GetOwningQuest().SetObjectiveDisplayed(10)
    GetOwningQuest().SetStage(10)
    to compile, I know it is not the code itself, it is a setup problem, but what would seem to be a simple fix seems to be hidden deeper than a medieval alchemist guild.

    Okay, it's been a few days since I have installed skse for the first time and yesterday I started having CTD's (Crash To Desktop) at the first load screen. After I have tried everything I thought it might have something to do with skse, so I came back here and I'm seeing several comments from the past few days from others who are appearently having the same problem. Soooooooooo, what I did is I reinstalled skse (followed Gophers instructions again) and for some reason Skyrim works again. I dunno, maybe this works for others too. I hope it does, because it's really frustrating.

    (update 1.6.16)
    The new update dosn't allow you to do many of those things, you can't extract it, but it can be installed right in the skyrim folder with new (different from yours, and theres only 5 files with skse instead for 7, but i think that's beacuse of the update) files. They've made it easier, but i want to do the same as you, to put it in nexus mod manager, but what should i do? Theres no "new" "data" map you can copy and past and overwrite now....

      You may have some outdated mods or mods that require others to run them. Disable them and try to restart SKSE. :) I just had to do that too on mine, because my whole computer crashed and I have to reinstall ALL of my 300+ mods.. and some of them have been taken off of the nexus so I cant use a lot of my mods I used previously lol

    I have downloaded this before but I had to again when my computer crashed and I had to refresh it. I followed your instructions word for word, but at the end of the installation I got an error that said "Couldn't find TESV.exe". I uninstalled SKSE and deleted all the files and re-installed it, yet got the same message. I looked it up in the steam forums an many people got the error "Couldn't find TES_.exe" which is different from mine. I can't seem to find a solution because I have installed this mod before and I never received this error. Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

    • @edenv4314
      @edenv4314 Před 9 lety +17

      I actually was able to find a solution in case any one else is having the same issue. The target destination in the shortcut wasn't leading to the skyrim folder in my case. To fix that you just right click the shortcut and go to properties, in the shortcut menu right beside where it says target, there is a box of text that should say "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\skse_loader.exe" (including the "), if it says something different, just copy and paste that into the box and it should work. Hope that helps for anyone having any issues with SKSE.
