"Flanders Blues" is a reference to PTSD suffered by soldiers who fought on "Flanders Fields", which were WW1 battlegrounds in France/Belgium. If you've ever seen people wearing poppies around Remembrance Day, its because poppies grew in Flanders Fields, and their bright red colour has become a symbol for the blood that was shed on those fields.
Tommy, Freddie and Dannie were diggers in WW1, basically since there were machine guns and artillery leaving the trenches to attack was suicide 9/10 times, eventually tanks would be able to drive through that super fast and make trench warfare pointless but tank technology wasn't reliable until just before WW2.
After a while both sides began specializing certain troops to dig tunnels to enemy trenches and then load the tunnel with explosives to take out a large portion of the enemies trench and open a gap to get through.
The big event that gives Tommy PTSD the most is when they by mistake dug into a German tunnel.
One thing you’ll come to notice more and more about Tommy. He never tells anyone what’s happening until it’s already happening. Or at least until it’s too late to stop him.

Tommy is attracted to her, but Tommy's also not a monster. He knew sending her in, he was running the risk of her being raped. He couldn't live with that, so he changed his mind and stopped it. Remember, in the war, he was a decorated war hero. He came back different. He wasn't always this hard and cold and ruthless - it's just what the war made him.

"She's an operative" - doesn't mean a thing. She is just a girl whose father was killed by the IRA out for revenge, being used by a Protestant (supposed) policeman who has nothing but hate for the IRA. She wasn't in any army, or "secret service", so not trained in anything. Just a girl being used. No, there is no gun culture in the UK at that time, despite just having fought a war. Guns are not commonplace. Street fighting is just what you have learned on the streets and what you have to hand to help you. "Martial Arts" was not a thing back then. For her to have used that gun on Kimber, would have not only ruined Tommy's plans, but would have completely exposed her as a plant and ruined the police plans too.
Interesting to think, if she had killed Kimber that would have exposed her to Tommy. He would have put a bullet in her head with no hesitation. He wouldn't have liked it, but would have done it just the same
Facts. But it matters to us rooting for Tommy. We care about the MC Tommy Shelby than Grace

But WHY is Freddie a "jerk" though? He clearly loves Ada, he took a bullet for Tommy, he believes in social justice at all cost, even if it means dying for his cause, and he's the only one who does not accept being bossed around by the Peaky Blinders (who are fucking bullies lets be honest). He's standing up for what he believes. Whats wrong with that?

She's getting her clearance to be an operative from the inspector because her father was his partner. I think she was made an op for personal reasons.
