Call me crazy but I take it one further and swap out cabs from other profiles until I find one that feels the best to me. I’m less concerned about being authentic to the amp, it’s more about getting something I like the sound of

H.W. , thanks for finally shedding some light on this. People needed to know that they can switch the cabs (while keeping a few things in mind of course) and that it wont "destroy the integrity" or "completely ruin" the profile lol. In a way, there are of course things to consider. But, the CabDriver algorithm was made to accurately seperate the amp and cab in a profile. And was pretty much made for that purpose, so you can swap cabs with other studio profiles. It actually says that in the Kemper manual but no one cares because they've heard that changing anything ruins the integrity of the profiles.
It actually is something that has bothered me for a while. I find that i can create my own tones using profiles I love and cabs i love from other profiles. Much like someone would take an amp sim and use an IR with it in an Axe FX III. I get really tired of people saying you can't "create your own tones from scratch" on the Kemper, because it's pretty much a similar process as creating your own tones amd presets through any Axe FX or other modeller. And unfortunately, many kemper users telling people not to change settings or cabs and not to alter profiles, is what has led to this misinformation. And that misinformation actually pushes a lot of people to the other modelers and they miss out on the amazingness of the Kemper. It's truly sad and frustrating.
Thank you for shedding light on this and for basically, opening up a whole new world for kemper users.
You're awesome and Tone Junkie is awesome!
P.S. Sorry for the novel above lol. As you can see, I'm pretty passionate about the subject lol.

I could not agree with you more! I have argued on different forms about switching cabinets from the same amp. To be shot down thank you so much for confirming that I was correct.

As long as you "save as" an edited version, then tweek to your heart's content. You still have the original profile to go back to. ;-)

I think one day you should do this in front of an audience so you don't need to heckle yourself 😂! Great vid, thanks HW!

Can I ask you a question? I know that this is probably a question people have asked since the Kemper has come out, but Im thinking of investing in my first Kemper, but Im worried that if I buy one that something like the Kemper 2.0 is going to come out like within 6 months to a year of buying it. Do you think its something thats a big possibility on the horizon or even something I should worry about? I know that thats always a possibility with gear but with the amount of money it costs to try run a studio now adays I try to future proof or make wise purchase decisions when I can. Just curious your toughts on it? I know either way that the Kemper would be great!

James Cassidy I would not expect a Kemper 2 anytime soon. I have asked and that’s what I was told.

How the Kemper can separate amps and cabs within a profile is black magic. There's no other explanation.

Is there a difference between studio and merged profiles in terms of how it works when switching cabinets?

my kemper sounds pretty dull with all profiles, can this be corrected?

    • @carlhardwickofficial

If you're playing at bedroom level, remember that a lot of profiles were created at gig volume. Turning down the Kemper's Main volume will make them muddy. Either crank your listening volume or adjust the Definition control. Google "Fletcher Munson Curve".
