Acclaimed Pastor to Ex-Christian | Tim Sledge with Esther Dhanraj | The Ex-Christan Show - Part 1

  • When a lay Christian quits Christianity, personal reasons are shown to be the only reason. And when an acclaimed pastor rejects the dogma it is said that he had issues with the church he was serving. The reasons could be anything but not doctrinal. There is no way that Christians can accept that there could be anything wrong with the doctrines because of which critically thinking Christians leave it when their reasoning takes them over.
Tim Sledge was a career pastor with a PhD in pastoral care. He was an acclaimed preacher and a Christian literature writer whose books are still used in church ministry. Forty years of preaching, pastoring and teaching later, Tim got disillusioned both by the doctrines and the way Christianity is practiced today.
In this video he answers questions as to how a career spanning 40 long years in ministering for the so-called kingdom of god ended in rejecting the belief in the existence of such a god whose kingdom he thought he was serving.

This reminded me of Charles Templeton , the evangelist ( who began with Billy Graham) who rejected the Christian faith. His book "Farewell To God" [M&S, Toronto, 1996] is worth reading. But Hindus should remember, Christianity is a very huge, highly organized,, well-structured, multi layered, intelligently managed, very powerful world wide organization, which controls media, businesses and governments in all sorts of indirect ways. Its main tool in India is education- it is said 35% of Indian students attend Christian-run schools. They have steadily penetrated into media, universities, regulatory bodies , text-book programs, etc. It is not easy to take them on, especially by Hindus who are totally disorganised, disoriented, engaged in linguistic and sect-based rivalry and ego clashes.

I think you are not aware that our faith has been brutally attacked in the west for centuries past. The people of west do not accept anything at face value. The type of attack unleashed can shake the roots of any faith if it is not grounded in truth. Christianity has traveled so far unscathed. The paradox is that the western civilisation is the byproduct of judeochr- Christian faith which the world copies today. The progress in science, knowledge and understanding in every field, democracy, human rights, all are the byproduct of this concept yet having grown by sucking its nutrients , stand and question its validity.
It’s not new for Christians to face such one sided onslaught. It’s not the first nor it will be last. We too are happy when our faith is cornered because if it’s true and from God it will come out unscathed. It has faced much brutal onslaught in the past from seventeenth century by philosophers and scientists. The fact that it survives is because it is truth from God. There are other faiths also which are rejected at face value and not even considered fit for any discussion. They don’t take any stand and carry all kind of opinions, there are some which only believe in submission without giving any thought on logic and criticisms. The point to be understood is , why certain people, channels are attacking this faith. What implications they want to have in certain parts of the globe. Is it all a intellectual debate or diabolical under the guise of intellectual deliberation. It should be seen with suspicion because there are many forces using media, social media to create divisions. will pose to be true Indian, ultra nationalist, sons of the soil , and peddle lies for ulterior motive.

Thanks for this interview. I'm looking forward for the following part/s. Good questions Esther . Thank you Tim, for sharing your views. Though I am not a Christian, I used to consider it as a valid religion for quite long time, may be due to the fact I studied in a missionary ( convent) run school & college. The scales fell off for me when first a neighbour abused my religion to my face because I didn't want to read her pamphlets, and later a social worker following the Tsunami. misused his position as a Govt appointed Counsellor to peddle his religion to those who come to him in need of advice/ counselling. These started my trying to understand why they can't accept & respect me the way I respect them!?

And in the deepest recesses there is good and bad.Bad for selfish short term gains is driven by animal instinct and good for long term gain is driven by moral instinct. Both instincts are in nature i.e manifest Brahman. We have to rise to be civilised human and use only our moral instinct. Your experience teaches what Kabirdas preached: Pothi padha padha padha jag mua padhe na pandit hoi dhai akshar prem ka padhe to pandit hoi. What was most striking was, how moved Esther ji was, she was reliving those feelings of confusion and doubt and betrayal and shackled and sadness and anger and finally epiphany.
For one who has been brought up in the Hindu belief system which narrates and allows so much flexibility, it is impossible to understand extent of the hold, the amplitude of importance, the emotional turmoil that dogmatic and Fundamentalist ontological inquiry systems have.
I am pained to see such troubles out of systems which are actually meant to solve these problems. What is stil to be understood is that merely being and ex is not the solution. It is not enough for the bigger questions of life, why are we here? The metaphysical realm is still the question that every human seeks an answer to, it's our Fundamental nature, especially for one who has come out of a dogmatic system which claimed to have those answers by asking the very same questions.
I am humbled by the work Esther ji is doing. Naman 🙏 to you.

at the root of conversion in India is hate for everything Indic. It is biblical. They are taught to reject their pre-conversion practices, their rituals, their deities, their festivals, their attire, etc. They dont have the concept of tolerance to other worldviews. A religion which clearly preaches an exclusivist dogma is not capable of inclusivity. Hate comes as a package with conversion.

    Part five
Scientifically no scientist believed in Jesus to a God. Be it Einstein or Richard Dawkins.
. In a conversation with the Dutch poet Willem Frederik Hermans Einstein stressed that, "I seriously doubt that Jesus himself said that he was God, for he was too much a Jew to violate that great commandment: Hear O Israel, the Eternal is our God and He is one!' and not two or three."… Einstein lamented, "Sometimes I think it would have been better if Jesus had never lived. No name was so abused for the sake of power..
In the “scientific American” journal Shapiro says it is a MYTH in a Miracle, may be this preacher could have appeared to his disciples in the form of a spirit and not in flesh....appearing in spirit is normal to all disciples because of their love to their guru.
The shroud of Turin , the cloth which was supposed to have Jesus body is a 13th century forgery. It was Roman emperor Constantine started thinking about Christianity in 313 AD just to soothe the Jews for the wrong done unto them. And to project that Romans were not evil rulers.......and from that time to the present day the Christians the world over had suffered from the war of crusaders, Spanish flu, world wars, terrorist attacks, London plague, London fires, corona virus deaths ,marital discords like no other religion..This is due to attracting sufferings, and worshipping god through sufferings.
his country VATICAN which is devoted to JESUS...Pope had not REALISED JESUS or not had seen him...
Also more than 850000 christians who have died of corona, but the deaths of Hindus/Buddhists in china, or Singapore, or Tibet, or Japan or South korea totalling them is only less than 80000...
In india we have huge gatherings like KUMBH MELA in all major rivers like ganges, cauvery, etc...More than 15 million people participate....last year more than 15 million bathed in a period of one month in ganges banks along Kashi... Huge crowds for MAHA MAHAMAGAM in Cauvery banks in TAMILNADU...Not a single epidemic....these are frequently done in India over 1000 of years ...that is why we say the cosmic energies of our LOrd in different incarnations like SHIVA OR VISHNU OR KRISHNA protects Indians....this is a fact...

From there, I successfully pastored several churches while doing my work with people who struggle with addiction. Eventually, I left and renounced what I called churchianity but I have never abandoned Yahweh El Shaddai or Yeshua the human son of Elohim and Messiah. both of you are simply beautiful human beings to me and I have compassion for both of you but it is safe to say that two people who deny Yahweh never knew Yahweh or had their eyes opened to the truth. I can say with complete confidence that the logical conclusion leads any real truth seeker to the knowledge of Yahweh as the only true Elohim and Yeshua as the Messiah and Scripture as Elohim breathed. There are answers for all of your questions if your eyes are opened to the truth. Besides logic, it is impossible to deny Yahweh or Yeshua after multiple confrontations with demonic entities who recognize both. I'm sad that you both are missing out on the very reason you exist and have accepted the lies of celestial rulers that rule your lives.

    Rule of the game is:
Before Christianity came, all the people in those societies were going to heaven!
Once Christianity came, only those who followed Christianity started to go to Christian Heaven and the rest started somehow go to Christian Hell! (By that logic, the direct ancestors of those who became Christians were NOT CHRISTIANS and there by they also got transferred to Christian Hell)!
Once Islam landed in the same societies, only those who followed Islam started to got to Islamic heaven and the rest started to go to Islamic Hell (regardless they had anything to do with Islam, including christians).
    SO, POST ARRIVAL OF ISLAM
CHRISTIANS WENT TO CHRISTIAN HEAVEN AND ALSO WENT TO ISLAMIC HELL!
MUSLIMS WENT TO ISLAMIC HEAVEN AND ALSO WENT TO CHRISTIAN HELL!
GREAT LOGIC!! REGARDLESS HOW MUCH PHILANTHROPIC WORK ONE DOES, SERVICE TO HUMANITY AND THE REST OF THE BEINGS ON THE PLANET, IF ONE DOESN'T FOLLOW ISLAM OR CHRISTIANITY, SUCH PERSON IS BOUND TO GO TO ONE OR THE OTHER HELL!! SO, THE SERVICE TO MANKIND AND THE WHOLE OF BEINGS ON PLANET IS VERY HEAVILY REWARDED!!

It is true that many decisions we make in life when young gets challenged in adulthood. These decisions are taken due to a lot of factors around us which influence us. The state in which Tim finds himself today in no way disproves what Bible stands for. I would say the same for Esther too. Instead of reflecting the reasons as to why they came to Christ they have jumped on the bandwagon of denying Christ and His mission. One cannot know everything of the world, it’s past, it’s creation , evolution, origins of languages, extra. We also do not know who all beings exist besides ourselves. We do not know if life after death is there. It cannot be known by the knowledge we have today. There is a reason for all these shortfalls. We cannot prove many things that we see by the eyes of faith. Bible does inform us of creation, origins of languages, concept of God, fall of man, provisions made by God to approach Him, true moral and ethical values acceptable to God, progressive revelation of God, causes of failures and punishments given by God to His people, innumerable prophesies describing plan of God for redemption of mankind, hope of future, extra extra. The entire world is like a theatre where men are tried, tested, examined ,refined and weighed in for future role according to the Bible. There are men who have led their lives in accordance to the light of the scriptures and died successfully but there are many who ended miserably. Man must question himself the reason of his existence in this planet. Just making this a mission to bust Christianity by collecting people who became ex while avoiding many who got meaning and purpose in their lives by following Christ, can only be termed a propaganda material for some ulterior motive.
Why not interview the ones who passionately love Christ and are willing to live and die for Him. They are also living in the same world but with different perspectives.
I know that Tim will come back to Christ because those who have tasted Him cannot find rest elsewhere.

Why bother? These are thinking , honest, courageous people , and there will be many more like them. I think they are moving from belief systems in which they were ensnared by natural circumstances or professional allurement, to philosophical systems.. The society and state in Our times give people the liberty of thought and expression in religion, which only the East, specifically India, afforded in the past. To the thinking person, Christianity appears especially tenuously founded, synthetic, dogmatic and contradictory for all its organisational structures and aggressive expansion over two millennia.

Hi Alwin, interesting comments! Tim was also one of the many people you refer to who found meaning and purpose by following Christ, but that changed with time for him at least, and I think its important for all Christians to lend him a patient ear. Someone who has sincerely served the Church for so many years deserves at least that much courtsey. I don't really know what kind of person Christ was, but mainstream Christianity seems to have very little patience for disagreements and open discussions. One can surely find many faults with Hinduism too, but being open to all perspectives is one thing that all Abrahamic religions need to learn from it! You are accusing Esther and Tim of propaganda, but is not the Christian Church the epicentre of propaganda on this planet? How else did Christianity spread around the globe? Over the last few decades, Yoga has also become quite popular around the world. I think all sensible Christians must compare and contrast the Church's propaganda machine with the way Yoga is spreading. The former is about capturing people and brainwashing them, while the latter is about liberating them. Thats a "hell" of a difference, or rather a "heaven", depending on your perspective!

      @samdidymus5476 Před 3 lety +5

"The state in which Tim finds himself today in no way disproves what Bible stands for." What an impudent and crass statement that denies the life-experiences that these people have endured under Christianity! Did it occur to you that the people who have now boldly denied the "holy spook, father and son" have done so with thoughtful consideration? Did it occur to you that Tim was a PASTOR for many years, and deeply invested for decades in philosophy, life and career in Christianity? Did it occur to you that a decent, honest human being will one day look at themselves in the mirror and seek Truth, something they clearly did not find in Christianity? Did it occur to you that a Pastor is most qualified to critically examine the passages in the bible and call out all the inconsistencies of the alleged word of "god"? Did it occur to you that every person who sees FALSEHOOD and leaves Christianity does so after deep deliberation, with deep social cost, with life-ripping consequences? And you have the temerity to offer your crass observations that deny their Truth?! What arrogance!
"Bible does inform us of creation..." Any person with half a brain will reject the bible right here. Science has explained very well how the universe has evolved based on solid measurements. There is ZERO evidence of a 6-day creation as asserted in the bible and moronically accepted as bible/gospel truth. This clearly shows how utterly false "bible/gospel truth" is.
"Bible does inform us of origins of languages". Another moronic assertion of "tower of babel" being created by "bible-god". Centuries of scientific linguistics analysis show us how languages evolve and spread to different parts of the world. Where is the evidence for a "babel"? Any thinking person who is told this is the "truth of bible" show flush Christianity right here.
"Bible does inform us of concept of God". Yet another arrogant positioning that completely denies the massive body of knowledge of Vedanta. The bible-god is the myth of shepherds who created a whip-wielding entity who eggs them on to commit genocide and destruction, and is surrounded with the halo of a street-level magician who performs sleights of the hand as "miracles"! Anybody with a couple of working neurons should reject the bible-god right away as utterly false.
"Bible does inform us of fall of man". Another utterly moronic conception - why would a loving god make sex a crime for "Adam and Eve" and all their progeny? This completely flies in the face of diploid-reproduction seen in millions of species all over Earth - one of Evolution's greatest optimizations, for genetic diversity. What was your god thinking about how progeny should be made? Why did he equip Adam and Eve with reproductory parts if he did not intend them to use it anyway?!!! Anybody who is not a moron should race for the exits right here!
"Bible does inform us of provisions made by God to approach Him, true moral and ethical values acceptable to God, progressive revelation of God" There cannot be more blinding ignorance than such assertions! The bible-god rules with a whip, a trap-door to eternal damnation burning hellfire, or "heaven" on the crowded right-side of his throne where people can watch each other for eternity (at least the Islam heaven has more fun). And this is called morality and ethics of the bible. The bible-god creates us-and-them and teaches hatred for the "them", promoting slavery, genocide, destruction. And this is called morality and ethics of the bible. Only utterly ignorant and willful-offenders will choose to remain christians after gazing at the mirror.
"The entire world is like a theatre where men are tried, tested, examined ,refined and weighed in for future role according to the Bible. " What a pathetic creation this bible-god is - jealous, judgmental, interested in the sex-life of humans, a monumental control-freak will burn them for eternity if they don't obey! Christians close all doors to the exit with the fear of hellfire. Muslims close all doors to exit with blasphemy-violence. Any humane person will see what these mind-control cults are all about and immediately become a free-thinker following universal laws.
"Man must question himself the reason of his existence in this planet" Indeed! And that question should lead to a honest answer, and not into the trap-door of a mind-controlling cult.
"I know that Tim will come back to Christ because those who have tasted Him cannot find rest elsewhere" Spoken with the arrogance of the ignorant! Spoken like a person who chooses o shut their eyes to rationality, logic, and reason! Spoken like a person who seeks to tar the world with "us-and-them" hatred. Spoken like a person the rest of the world pities for their insanity.
May your karma lead you to Truth and away from your current all-encompassing darkness.

“no way disproves what Bible stands for”
Why do you think we are interested in disproving what the Bible stands for? Albeit, many critically thinking, ethical Christians wish someone could do that. Bible does not have to be disproved to reject it. On the contrary, you can reject the Bible only if you take it as truth. Like Mark Twain said, “The remedy to Christianity is to read the Bible.” What it stands for is the genocide that was carried out on indigenous cultures rationalized on the basis of biblical genocides, especially the Canaanite one? Or the slavery that was carried out by white masters who rationalized it on the basis of two of their favorite verses in the bible? Genesis 9:18-27 and Ephesians 6:5-7.
“Instead of reflecting the reasons as to why they came to Christ they have jumped on the bandwagon of denying Christ and His mission.”
So, you do agree that there is a movement of Christ deniers. Ever wondered why it started? That could be the point of your embarkation on a journey of truth.
“One cannot know everything of the world, it’s past, it’s creation, evolution, origins of languages….” My fellow intellectual kshatriyas have fittingly replied to this. I would only want to point out how you contradict yourself. On the one hand you are agreeing that we cannot know everything of the world, and in the same breath saying that the Bible has answered these questions and you tend to take them as truth.

“Just making this a mission to bust Christianity….”
Yes, that is the motive. Bust myths. Proud to be a part of the movement that is fighting falsehood and darkness and helping illuminate the world.
“by collecting people who became ex….”
Guess you missed the point. The show is called The Ex-Christian Show. It is funny that you enter a clothing store and complain that you cannot buy groceries.
“many who got meaning and purpose in their lives by following Christ…”
There are 1000s of channels that offer exactly that. Why waste your time in watching this show first and second in commenting?
“can only be termed a propaganda material for some ulterior motive….”
Then stay away! It is not like I lured you in to my channel and my show with a clickbait title. I did not say something like, “Feel Good Christian Testimonies” and then disappointed you with tough talk about Christianity.
“Why not interview the ones who passionately love Christ and are willing to live and die for Him. They are also living in the same world but with different perspectives.”
I repeat, this is a clothing store. Sorry, you can’t buy grocery here. The channel is Intellectual Kshatriya and the show is called The Ex-Christian Show. This is the insider view of Christianity from the outside. Not insider view from the inside. There are hundreds of feel-good Christian channels showing on-screen conversions, faith healings, embellished testimonies, apologetics so on and so forth. Please feel free to reach the exit door of this channel if that is what you want to view. You won’t be missed here.
“I know that Tim will come back to Christ because those who have tasted Him cannot find rest elsewhere.”
Anybody who studied the Bible and understood it (in your words, tasted it) will run as far away from it as they can and never look back. The feeling is a liberating one! Liberty to explore new horizons to find the Ultimate Truth, at your own terms, at your own pace, without having to worry about being burnt in hell no matter where truth leads you, without the fear of being "left behind" even if you don’t accept what is written in the texts you examine in your journey, without the pressure of having to fit the facts that you discover, in the cramped Christianity puzzle. He has to be a fool or have an ulterior motive to choose dogma in lieu of such liberty.

Parroting concepts that you have heard from pastors and Christian websites and videos doesn't make your argument right. Let's deconstruct what you just said. You said Kingdom of god- can you tell what that means? Is it a feeling, or an idea? Or is it a physical place floating somewhere on our floating earth or is it in outer space? If it is physical, where is it, what is it it made of and who has seen it, where is it all documented? If it is a feeling what causes the feeling and what is the mental state of the person experiencing it? How do you substantiate it? Is it like all emotional feelings that comes and goes based on what we go through in our relationships and our life in general? If it is an idea, who thought about it first and what criteria do you apply to evaluate its plausibility? And how does the idea help in the progress of man and societies at large?
When a person with decades of Christian experience and practice says he quit Christianity you dismiss it saying he has no academic credentials to comment on Christianity. When a person with the highest academic degrees in Christianity says he finds Christianity absurd you say degrees are waste, Christianity should be experienced, not studied. When a person with both highest degrees and decades of experience in preaching and practice rejects the dogma you still say he got it all wrong. In your opinion only the person who continues to remain deluded as yourself is the one who got it all right. All the rest are either sold out, or possessed of the demon, or angry with god. Save your sorry for yourself, because you of all ppl are to be pitied the most, like your own bible says (through the character of Paul).
