    Glad I watched this, I was about to use normal mortar. I’ve found that you can put the cement mix in a large Freezer Zip Lock bag making a caulk gun like for cake frosting. It works great!!

      Another good technique is to mix the hydraulic cement with mortar mix. I usually first clean the area with a wire brush, wet it and then apply that blue adhesive that comes in a paint can type thing. Then I apply the cement. 2 parts mortar/ 1 part hydraulic.

      You don't have to dig the dirt up and see how far down the crack goes?...🤔

    In this case, it looks like the crack will continue even underground. Wouldn't it be best to dig up the soil and apply the solution to the entire crack?

      Correct, from my experience.. water leaks rarely penetrate from above the ground, ground water below the surface is where you need to focus the patch work.

    Could that hydraulic cement be put into a bag like an icing bag for decorating cakes with a tip and be squeezed into the crack? Just trowelling in on seems not enough.

    For below ground cracks, do you have to clean out the dirt first for the cement to stick?

  • @stephenc2296
    @stephenc2296 Před 3 lety +12

    Hank, why didn’t you address the issue first? To give people more of an explanation... There are 3 results when reading a crack. If the crack is the same width top and bottom, then it could be concrete shrinking or if it’s on a hill then creeping. If the width is bigger at the bottom than the foundation is sinking at the crack and needs to be lifted/supported. In this case the crack is larger at the top so the corner if the house is sinking and needs lifting. ***If you shove in cement then a foundation repair can’t be done.*** In this case, the corner of the house can be piered and lifted. The lifting action will close the crack which it can’t do if you fill it with concrete.

      its best to find and hire an engineer to see if perhaps the foundation needs to be lifted. especially if the crack goes all the way down could be an indication the slab is sinking. Im going through foundation issues and my wife and i hired an engineer to examine our slab and we need helical piers installed

  • @Shanonmcnab576
    @Shanonmcnab576 Před rokem +1

    Probably should dig down a bit to see how far that crack goes down past the dirt. You can fill all you want but won't amount to a hill of beans if the crack goes further down then you expected.

    • @digibluh
      @digibluh Před 8 lety +8

      exactly, i would of injected it with some expanding polyeurothane or epoxy at least as well. easier from the inside though. cutting and replacing drywall is easier than digging a 6-8ft hole.

    • @dazeman27
      @dazeman27 Před 8 lety +2

      I was thinking the same thing. I started digging mine up and they stop about 3 inches down luckily. Maybe it is the same in many cases. I am so relieved as I was dreading digging all the way down in 8 spots. also feeling more confident that my cracks are normal settling from curing and not half inch cracks 6 feet down
