Gene hackman is one of the greatest actors of all time. He can portray antagonists or protagonists equally well. Mississippi burning is one of the greatest movies he is in. I hope he enjoys his retirement.
One of my favourite films. The acting, the eerie music & the fact that the film was based around actual events all combine to make it a cinematic masterpiece.
He does bring that element of controlled rage to a lot of his roles. There's an element of violence and danger just beneath the surface. He comes across as a genial guy most of the time, but one you don't want to cross or have him mad at you...
Both Gene and John (journalist) were a cut above in their chosen fields. Both expressed true professionalism. Much different from what we see these days.
Every time I see Hackman in any of his *long* list of serious rolls, I'm reminded of just how far down the sewer 'woke'-activist hollywood has gone in the last decade, with no signs of it ever correcting. This man is made of pure legend and just oozes awesomeness.

I feel like MB is one of the rare films that benefits from a little bit of artistic license. It wasn't like this in reality, the FBI agents in real life they sent to Mississippi were more like thugs who beat people to get the information from them; the film borrows from the skeletal structure of what happened (three civil rights activists go missing) but then bootstraps it to tell its own story
I define a good actor by whatever role they take they can convince you they are “that” role ( obviously). That’s what a lot of people I know miss, they go by “ most popular “. Hackman is a guy whether he is a cop, admiral or lex Luthor he 💯 convinces the audience he is “ that “ role. Simple. Popularity is a different thing. I love the rock but for example his movie acting skills are not convincing.
