As a German, I first saw him on German TV as J W Gacy - still haunts me today. And then as Sheriff Teasle. Can watch those performances every day. He is Immortal for me...
Brian Dennehy lived in Northeastern CT. When home, he would frequent a little movie theater, in a nearby town, that is no longer operational. When cleaning the theater after a movie he attended, empty booze bottles would often be found where he was sitting. The man definitely liked his drink.
Here he claims he was (more of) a sneaky drinker. Leaving empty bottles in a theater is not only not very sneaky but also pretty antisocial. But yes a serious alcoholic doesn't give a shit.
Brian Dennehy was an incredibly gifted, yet underappreciated, actor. His portrayal of serial killer John Wayne Gacy was creepy, chilling and frightening.
I went out with him for 3 years. He was such a fine actor screen and stage, his first love was the stage. He didn't like making movies but did them for the money. He wasn't married when we dated in LA and my husband had passed away young. We had great times, same birthday July 9th, he was a fine movie star but never really believed it or liked it. He should have gotten an Academy Award for playing the role of Presser in the film Teamster Boss.
Brian was great in "To Catch a Killer," as John Wayne Gacy, and as Will Teasle in "First Blood." Such a natural actor; I don't think he gets the credit he deserves today.
I saw BD in 'Death Of A Salesman' in The Apollo, London. It was amazing, and I will never forget it. Another night's work for him, but a great memory for me.
Billy Crystal did the best monolog at the Academy Awards when he mentioned a typical Sunday with the wife, parents kids and Brian would just appear. Making light of the fact that he used to be on everything and everywhere. One of the five best bad guys ever.
I've seen Brian playing mostly villains, and he was just so good at being the heavy of the movie he's in. Can't imagine another actor being the crooked Sheriff in First Blood.
Im a recovering alcoholic and a recovering heroin addict. I had my last drink January 1st 2014, 2718+ days ago. I love hearing other people's stories who are in recovery. It's terrible seeing someone at their all time low and struggling with addiction, but it's also amazing to see someone finally snap out of it, turn their lives around and get sober.
i work hard but drink to take the edge off so i can relax and actually sleep.my energy levels are high which is strange as i am approaching 57 years, you got any any advice?
@@robbiesmith2525 Brother, I am a blue collar type of person and I used to be that guy who would "drink to relax after a hard days of work" but before I knew it I was drinking to relax myself before I clocked in to being my hard day of work and I literally couldnt function and had the shakes before work... so I had to drink before work in order to function. What works for me might not work for you but my whole outlook is why knock it if I havent tried it. But I meditate. And when I first got sober and was introduced to meditation I was the type of guy who didnt want to hear that shit or id be in the mindset of yea right meditation are you kidding me? But after I got sober I noticed that my mind was still racing a million miles an hour and I still had the same busy mind as a did when I was actively using and drinking. So my sister turned me onto Deepak Chopra. He is a spiritual guru and big into mediation and I am honestly glad I came across his material and taught myself how to meditate. Ill be honest it didnt work at first but I kept at it and literally had to train my mind in order to shut it off in order to meditate. So when I get home from work now I disconnect and turn everything off, tv, computer, social media ect... and I dedicate an hour to meditating and I meditate before bed too to put me in a relaxed mindset. Theres also more to it than that. I personally dont use pot but I do believe they are a safer alternative than drinking in order to deal with stress and try to get a good night sleep. You can also consume them via edibles instead of smoking. I also went to rehab 12 times before I finally got my life together. So I am not sure how far you are into your drinking or if you consider it a problem but when it comes to getting rest the thing that did it for me was a combination of things but meditation and Deepak Chopras books helped me out from the aspect of trying to get rest. I hope you read this and didnt mean to make it so long but I just have deep feelings for trying to help people when they ask.

Brian truly one of the all-time greats who doesn't appreciate his performances, just his inclusion of a script is enough reason to rent/buy a movie always, not all actors get the great accolades they deserve Brian is accomplished and does deserve more acknowledgement.
I have always enjoyed Brian Dennehy's acting in movies. His roles as a 'good guy' tough cop. Also, when he played 'bad guys'. An extremely 'versatile' actor who began his acting career on stage, after leaving his professional career. May you rest peace Brian.

Here he claims he was (more of) a sneaky drinker. Leaving empty bottles in a theater is not only not very sneaky but also pretty antisocial. But yes a serious alcoholic doesn't give a shit.
Grass.
Great illustration and lesson! Rest Well Brian Dennehy!
one of my late mothers favourite actors. R.I.P. Brian.
Brian Dennehy was an incredibly gifted, yet underappreciated, actor. His portrayal of serial killer John Wayne Gacy was creepy, chilling and frightening.
Rambo First Blood. Sheriff Will Teasle.
@@headshotsongs9465 Probably. I never saw any "Rambo" movies, even though I could've seen them all when they first came out in the theaters.
@@IPlayOneOnT.V. Then you missed it. Great actors play parts in strange films. Ever heard of Struther Martin?
@@headshotsongs9465 Yes.
@@IPlayOneOnT.V. The "original Rambo" (First Blood) is nothing like the rest of the "Rambo" movies though.
He was an awesome actor. His screen presence was phenomenal. RIP.
Did a fantastic job playing coach Bob Knight in the ESPN movie.
Still remember his Stellar role as resort bartender in “10” with Dudley Moore. A brilliant and underrated movie
That’s The actor Aamir most
Brian was great in "To Catch a Killer," as John Wayne Gacy, and as Will Teasle in "First Blood." Such a natural actor; I don't think he gets the credit he deserves today.
That's right he is one of the greatest actors
That Gacy thing, we was scary!!!
His performance on Silverado was fantastic. RIP!
Such a great on screen presence this man had ! Bless him.
One of my favorite actors can’t believe he’s gone
Check out Driveways his last film
Great movie !.. watching it as I'm texting this..he cared and loved that little boy Cody as Cody did him... Great last film for Brian !!!..RIP ! 🙏🙏🙏
Quite open about his life. Refreshing interview.
Great actor and I always loved to watch him! So charismatic and talented! He is the one of those old school actors who can't forget.
I saw BD in 'Death Of A Salesman' in The Apollo, London. It was amazing, and I will never forget it. Another night's work for him, but a great memory for me.
His performances in First Blood and F/X were outstanding. Tommy Boy too
Last of The Finest
Billy Crystal did the best monolog at the Academy Awards when he mentioned a typical Sunday with the wife, parents kids and Brian would just appear. Making light of the fact that he used to be on everything and everywhere. One of the five best bad guys ever.
RIP. It's amazing how nice he seems here. I'm probably just used to the roles he played. Guess he really was a great actor
I've seen Brian playing mostly villains, and he was just so good at being the heavy of the movie he's in. Can't imagine another actor being the crooked Sheriff in First Blood.
Rest in peace Brian Dennehy
@@eldiablo3794 thanks for getting back to me pal.i ain't in your league or should I say the league you were in.i work all over the planet and you know the guys are work but now I am back on the tools I try to avoid as many gigs as I can.sure travelling the world is good and all that but it takes its toll on the body.all that booze and a shit diet so I have got a tad tired of all that now.on site I am a steel erector or fixer but my trade is engineering so for me it's more of a bad habit really.its a bottle of wine or a few whiskies or a few beers ,alot to some people but nothing to others but as I say it's a bad habit.i have been told about blue screens aswell and I have already cut down on social media,so that's a start I guess.i have also started to cut down on the booze too but now and then I must admit,I go back to contractor mode lol.i am sure I will fix it before it gets any worse and thanks man, thanks for taking the time to post and tell me your story, robbie.
@@robbiesmith2525 I totally understand the lifestyle of constantly traveling and trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. For me personally I used to be an over the road truck driver. Id be in different states, different time zones, constantly on the go. Traveling can def burn you out and throw your sleeping patterns out of whack. So I get trying to balance a healthy lifestyle and eating healthy and trying to get rest. I hope everything works out for you and I hope you have a safe and prospersous 2021. Im sure we all had a terrible 2020. Stay blessed bro!
@@eldiablo3794 thanks brother.
Some truly great performances from Brian. First Blood and Best Seller among them
Great actor, candid and honest man. RIP....
I know EXACTLY what he meant about seeing your kids eyes. Brian was tops in almost every regard. (After all, no one is perfect.) RiP Brian. God Bless.
Not my father, he drank, gambled, smoked money while his children went without...
Rest In Peace Brain and Great Story about you’re son and you’re Drinking Problem. 🙏🏻🕊✝️ 🙂
RIP Brian Dennehy! He had always been one of my favorite actors and he always played foils (paternal, powerful and influential figures).
He’s a great example of how we can change at any age and change because we’re hurting someone we love. To me that’s the only reason you need.
"All you need is that one kid, the kid that you love, that look like 'please don't do this'... and that was enough for me."..... truer words were never spoken, I had the same experience with smoking.... that one look and I never smoked again. Love for your child is stronger than any addiction.
Congratulations on quitting. I'm glad it worked for you and for Brian D. Sadly, many addicts can't give it up for anything. My mom could never lay off the cigs no matter what I or anyone else said or did. This even though she was a nurse and had several dying cancer patients beg her to quit over the years. She was still craving cigs on her deathbed at 54 years of age. But that wasn't the point of this great interview. As you say, very emotional and revealing. Great that Brian Dennehy did get the message and was able to make the change for the sake of his family. Glad you did too - best thing you could have done.
Not for my mum it wasn't.
RIP and thank you for the memories #partofmychildhood
Beautiful. Thanks, Brian. RIP
We are responsible for training our children, but I have found that my children were really in my wife's and my life to train us. Brian Dennehy was a man of honesty.
My children taught me and showed me my self and taught me the true purpose of my life.
Really liked Brian.
I'm 58 and quit drinking 20 years ago
R I P
He sincerely loved his son theirs no doubt about that.
Brian truly one of the all-time greats who doesn't appreciate his performances, just his inclusion of a script is enough reason to rent/buy a movie always, not all actors get the great accolades they deserve Brian is accomplished and does deserve more acknowledgement.
Thanks for posting this
I have always enjoyed Brian Dennehy's acting in movies. His roles as a 'good guy' tough cop. Also, when he played 'bad guys'. An extremely 'versatile' actor who began his acting career on stage, after leaving his professional career. May you rest peace Brian.
I shook Brian Dennehy's hand back in 1990 on the set of a film, and his hand was the largest hand I've ever shaken in my life. His hands are half the size of his head.
Lucky you. I have fancied him ever since I can remember. My brother thinks I am mad not fancying the usual celebrities
@@debbiepeter112 Debbie. Your brother probably thought that you would fancy someone like Brad Pitt, George Clooney or Robert Redford 😁
@@kennethrussell1158 Dont like any if them. I am not really into fancying any celebrity to be honest, none of them have ever got my attention except for Brian. That's why my brother thinks I am insane. He just doesnt understand that at all. Gutted he died.
@@kennethrussell1158 There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of the three you mentioned
great actor in rambo, one best in there movie!
I so much loved watching Brian Dennehy act. He was excellent.
The realization that you will never see these great actors perform again is sad!
awesome actor he is always great
I tried to give my drinking parents that "look". Didn't work. RIP BD.
my dad was too drunk to see my eyes. he was avoided at all costs. as soon as he came home from work, the fridge opened and so did the vodka. by the time 8 pm came around, if you were home, you were hatin it. So i was never home, street kid.
GOD BLESS THEM MY FRIEND...

Love him in all his roles !!!
Top man! That’s a good reference point (he made about the child watching him) for drinkers.
