You are absolutely correct... This has been rumored for years and it's now being confirmed via multiple accounts so I wouldn't doubt, higher end boxes especiallyl, have been compromised for a while

I hope the card manufacturers are seeing the writing on the wall and have a gameplan to fix this
Good we know now since it has obviously gone on for 5 years plus I’m sure. Seems like short term fix will have to be redemption cards for the cards in inventory that get delivered in 2-3 days for the highest end cards, a blank card on top and only cardboard autos underneath. No chance the scanners can read a QR on the redemption card.
Manufacturers won’t acknowledge the issue for a year or two at least unfortunately, not until they see sales decline.
If they don’t want to ship every card, they’ll have to partner with someone like comc that will warehouse some of them

I’m glad you’re looking into this, be careful, you never know who’s involved. I wouldn’t let this sway your love of the hobby. I personally have never opened one of these products or bought a single card….. thats with 40 years of collecting. The hobby has different channels and therefore will have different issues…… dishonesty is not something new to sports cards.

I have bought alot of cards from dave and adams and cant say i have ever gotten anything big in those boxes. I have spent thousands in the last 6 months and nothing big.
@@mofomoco I think D & A is for sure involved. I know people that have bought hundreds of boxes over the years from them and literally didn't get much in each and every one of those boxes. They also weigh packs from what I heard
It’s Beyond obvious it’s Dave and Adams. The amount of boxes/cases that run through that place is insane. There constantly buying boxes from other ppl.

At some point fanatics, Panini, Topps will just have to selling stuff direct to the public if the dealers and breakers are destroying the hobby.

Hobby shop been scam people forever. I remember Topps Hobby boxes. The auto was always the second pack down on the right side back in the day, even now sometimes. Some LCS already know that and take it out and will sell the rest of the packs

I never buy from shops. Never buy off ebay. Straight from stores that don't care like Wal-Mart and target is enough for me. I dig the randomness. I could already see shops with hobby releases opening the cases, hitting the chase and then offloading the duds to anyone not smart enough to buy them.

Why would people weigh packs in the 80s? The first game used item was not created until 1997 by upper deck.@SportCardMadness

I don't buy high end anyways because of the price and now I would definitely not buy it. I'll stick to singles, just can't trust any high end wax anymore, there's a reason why breakers are always pulling the best cards and they act so surprised!
The only problem is for the singles to enter the hobby the boxes have to get opened. Though I think now more than ever we are going to see a "Great Ripping" and lots of opening boxes. Will just make more sense to.
@@SportCardMadness If there is no short term solution then consumers should have the ability to buy wax directly from the manufacturer or else I would question it. We already have a suspicion of breakers getting loaded boxes.

I find it very odd how people in this space are calling out the morality of the scanning company. As if that would actually solve this issue or it's even their fault?
Its similar to Napster ... love it or hate it the tech is here to stay. Manufacturers need to respond and collectors need to alter buying decisions accordingly.
Entirely fair to question the scruples of either party... If the scanners(so close to scammers it's kind of eerie, eh?) were really above board they would take measures to discourage business from customers who's intent could clearly be divined to be reselling scanned/searched product...
@@kenrogers1948 They are actively working on prevention and likely pivoting to that soon per my advice. I told them to pivot to that and license it.
Never pay 1k or more for cardboard unless its an old rookie card from a hall of famer

I sold my collection and kept some cards for personal. I'm done with hobby as of early this year. Between breakers scamming people and finding ways to rig the hobby get out while you can.
Won't effect cheap boxes it's those breakers and rich people buying 20k boxes. Until panani or fanatics figure this out its over.
In 1986 my LCS had a stack of Fleer MJ rookies and I could never pull one out of a pack. Found out later there was a pattern and the card could be found. Then it was the Hoops David Robinson rookie, same thing. Then the UD Griffey rookie same thing. It seems that this “hobby” is just a bunch of old dudes trying to get the angle.
I was lucky found an unopened box of 89 upper deck at an estate sale got for 20 bucks got two Jr rookies one graded 9.5
Stuff cost to much as is, add this into it and so long.
No one buy high dollar item any more do to scan the products

Vintage will rule again! I think the only corner of the hobby that's affected are the expensive pack/box buyers and breakers... Nothing personal, but I will lose zero sleep when that aspect of collecting goes bye-bye.

I stopped cracking packs years ago. I don't know if lower end boxes are really in danger given the $$ charged to check them, and I can see a legit use by a company doing to verify that the box is legit and not tampered with. I think plain old cardboard is likely safe , but who knows?

Correct me if I am wrong. In each sport there are only a handful of low-probability cards, and they would have to grade a 10, to justify the cost of a high-end hobby box plus PSA's upcharge if it does rate a 10? Now with the evidence that such boxes are being scanned before resale, the probability of hitting that chase card goes from low to zero?
There are actually 5 figure cases that this makes a lot of sense for. Scan and resell the duds

How Will a CT scan work on a box of SELECT PRIZM ETC BOXES CONSIST OF MULTIPLE PACKS
They have done boxes of Pokemon with ease and seen every card. They just attack it in sections.
Ig your talking about the guy that covers Pokémon hat n glasses i saw his video Pokémon has to do with a character with unique shapes. Sports pack anyone can be shooting a 3 dunking the ball etc

Why are people suddenly disgusted to find out that a segment of the hobby based on degenerate gambling lacks integrity? Is it because we know how it's being done now? I actually think it's that people are disgusted to be discovering their own willful ignorance and naivety. It’s very easy to show a big black blob on both CT scans and MRI’s. The card company’s need to defend the integrity of their money maker and do something about it.
Not a lot of great solutions. I’ve spoken to them a lot over the past few weeks. One idea is boring redemption cards … not a lot of fun to pull
I stopped buying sports cards except for ufc and hockey. I collect Star Wars also with my daughter. Cant trust anyone these days. Too much greed and scamming going on. Grading companies suck and are showing they arent to be trusted as much aa the past.

The hobby is dying big time. It’s WAY OVERPRICED now with the breakers are now the distributors now which jacks the price up more. And when you have the unregulated gambling of what breaking packs is, it’s set up for cheating and scamming.
How about do the research and then make the video. Better to have the goods before you warn people you are investing them.

Look into it. Apparently you can. The one young guy did and researched everything to learn how to repair and rebuild one and even make one from scratch. All started years ago when someone put out a contest to see who can read the dead sea scrolls.
