It was a value city before meijer
I don't know much about Meijer but I think they are not as likely to close stores. Great find!
I commented a few years ago about the building being painted white in 2020. I was wrong, this was the color scheme when it was originally the Value City Department Store from the 1990s up until 2008. Very odd decision to just scrape the paint away, but I digress. The space is currently a Jungle of Niles.
Did you know this used to be a Kmart, and later a Builder's Square in the 80s?
strange to see a closed Meijer. I really like that place
This was a smaller type store that was more focused on groceries. There was another nearby that closed that was like this. Otherwise Meijer is doing very well in the area.
Yea, that is very odd! Closed Aldis and Kroger’s are weird as well!!
@@MannyQuacioua Closed Krogers, not so weird. Closed Aldis, pretty weird.
@@pilotgrrl1 the Aldi i went to and lived across the street from closed in 2018.
Not every day you see an abandoned Meijer, lucky find and nice video.
I live right behind this building. It's now called the Jungle of Niles and sells plants and stuff
Well that will be a nice Tractor Supply Store, they usually take over Abandoned Kmart stores.
Use to be Value City store, then Meijer took over the place for few year..
Yo this was meijer. I worked at the bakery from 2015 to 2016. It closed in june I think of 2016. I lived behind that store. The bakery was on the right with the deli. The access door was further right with a shity security camera. A few doors down was a chinese restaurant, a little store ran by a syrian man, the hair salon and that weird movie theater
It’s now Jungle of Niles Plant Outlet
I love meijer
I’m actually doing that on December 23rd.
It was a Builders Square before it was Value City
Hol up how long have there been meijer out of Michigan?
For about the last 20 to 25 years
I heard of this type of company. I’d like to visit it someday.
Yeah. They're based in Michigan and doing quite well. I prefer these over Wal-Mart any day. A lot of people get these confused with Fred Meyer which are owned by Kroger.
Mall Aholic I didn’t know Fred Meyer is owned by Kroger. Thanks for telling me.
@@AndysRetailExploration Kroger owns a whole lot of different brands, including King Soopers and others. If the store has a gas station, the dead giveaway is that blob shaped mark with red, yellow, green and blue "corners".
Hi Meijer
I used to live in the apartments over there my dad used to shop there and I used to go there I was also there when it closed down and I was pretty sad because I had a lot of memories there I'm glad that you post this I live in Florida now I really would like to be back home
Niles is sooooo depressing
I actually used to work in that building when it was Value City back in the late 90’s
It definitely looks like it was a Walmart at one time. I don't think I've seen anyone else post a video about a closed Meijer's. Cool find!
Actually somebody told me it was a value city department store, then it was an experimental Meijer marketplace store that just sold groceries. It didn't work out, but Meijer is doing well in the Chicago area. It's my goto store.
Meijers aren’t too common in this area. Plus there’s an almost comical amount of supermarkets in the area. This Meijer just had misfortune of entering an over saturated local and lack of name recognition in the area.
I guess this was just an essentials store. Not a full blown one, but in the far suburbs these do very well.
HTH could a Meijer's go out of business?
This and a few other stores were marketplace stores. This was a failed experiment. Otherwise Meijer is doing very well.
