The mistress is the stage. Touring. She calls him to stand in the spotlight again. It’s about missing his wife and everything he does to provide for her and lay her down on that bed of roses.
Well said.
It's nice to help people on the journey to discovery I'm lucky growing up with most of these tracks.
I love most of Bon Jovi's songs and this is one of my favorite songs. He/they have a huge catalog of great all time hits that will last forever in Rock music history. You need to buy every cd he has ever released
@@user-nu7tt3hj8f I have them all! Some on vinyl, cassette, and all in cd.
I was gonna say the same thing... Good job..
Pretty much every song in the 80s is better than any of today's so-called number one hits.
Bed of roses was early 90’s. I still agree with your point though.
92
@@RunDCM 70s 80s 90s where the best, after that it is all junk
absolutely true
Back then the lyrics were poetry...
"He's beautiful" is always the correct response to Jon Bon Jovi.
Abso-freaking-lutely
Yes!
Jon is still married to his high school sweetheart. He said that he fell in love with her the 1st time that he saw her in class at age 15. He asked her out & They've been together ever since. So rare in the entertainment industry!
So rare in LIVE in general
at age 15? So when was he with Diane Lane?
@@michalina3088 He only dated Diane for a few months in the mid-80s while he & Dorthea were "taking a break" because he was on the road so much. They got back together shortly after & married in 1989.
Honestly, I had forgotten all about Diane until I saw your reply 😏
@@HollerMa71 thanks for your reply. thats very nice 🙂
This is a song that Jon wrote for his wife. Lot of metaphors here. The blond that gave him nightmares is his guitar (apparently he was struggling to write a song). He sleeps on a bed of nails because it's torture being without her. The mistress is the stage, he's not alone because he is with the crowd, but he's lonely because she is not with him. This is such a beautiful love song. And yes, Jon Bon Jovi is absolutely gorgeous, always has been.
💯 ❤
He has openly talked about cheating. The spotlight is the mistress. The blond was a groupie.
If you love power ballads, you need to check their 95 performance of Always live at Wembley in London. It's so epic!
Not just any guitar solo...Richie Sambora!
His mistress is the spotlight...his job...being a famous star.
Richie made some good songs under his own name too like Father Time
That's why I say Dry County.
@@erroristmusic Rickie is AMAZING
Nothing can touch this era of music
I’m not sure there’s ever been a better vocal duo in rock history!! Jon and Richie were just incredible!!
Jon could SANG! Amazing frontman.
The problem with replacing Richie Sambora was not just that he's a great guitarist, but that his harmony vocals with Jon blended perfectly, while perfectly in sync, almost as if they had been singing together all their lives. You can always replace a musician, but voices are unique. And true vocal chemistry is not something you come across very often.
Totally agree. Another aspect is that Richie was also a songwriter and contributed lyrically to Bon Jovi over many years.
Yeah reminds me of how Tom Petty and Howie would sing together
A Lot of metaphors in this one. It's a song about how much he misses his wife while on the road. He wants to get back to her. The road is his mistress. His guitar is the blonde. The nails is his pain of being away from her. Just a little bit of info.
Yes, this is definitively better, much, MUCH BETTER than todays pop and mainstream music
Bon Jovi is one of those groups that sound almost as good live as they do on the CD!! It’s so awesome!!
More rock bands please. The 80’s fashion was crazy and the songs had good lyrics.
Sister Christian is a beautiful rock ballard with the highs that don't disappoint !
l think Night Ranger is the band 🎉
The lead guitarist is Richie Sambora; sadly he's not with Bon Jovi anymore, those harmonies were other worldly.
Check out the acoustic versions of livin' on a prayer.
Oh, you MUST watch Bon Jovi 1989 MTV music awards. It's just Jon and Ritchie and 2 guitars and they absolutely stole the show and you want to hear them sing in harmony and you even get some lead vocals by Richie and you will be amazed how their voices were just made to be together. I beg you please watch it
I've watched that like 50 times lol. Some say that performance inspired the idea of MTV Unplugged.
Brit would definitely love all of the rock ballads of the 80s.
I don't know if anybody mentioned this but Jon Bon Jovi married his high school sweetheart Dorothea. They've been together since they were 14 or 15 and still together today! Unheard of today, and absolutely unheard of in the years when hair metal was at its peak. For a lead singer whom women were throwing themselves at and groupies looking to add the ultimate "notch to their bedpost" he stuck it out with his "girl".
That being said, there are a couple of songs that I think you might enjoy from the early 80's which are extremely different but both touching. The first is Kenny Rogers, "Through the Years" which is an homage to an enduring love that has lasted through trials and tributes. A fitting song for a couple married for life.
The other is a love song by Phil Collins, who is the actress Lily Collins' (from Netflix Emily in Paris) dad. His band is called Genesis and the song is called "Follow You, Follow Me" I can't listen to it without shedding a tear. I don't know why. I don't relate it to anyone special. The composition and the performance just do me in. If you're looking for something to check out, both are great songs.
Yes, I am gen x and all of us will tell you that as much as we may appreciate different music through the years, nothing compares to the music of the 80’s to us. Bon Jovi is one of my all time favorite bands. Their ballads tell stories and thrill rock is fun. The older they got, the more I loved their music, it grew with them/us…lol. This song is one of my favorites. I loved it when it came out and now so many decades later I love it more because this love letter written for his wife, he is still with her, last I heard.
Jon is so young here. Now he is a silver fox, still with great hair. LOL He has a charity from where he grew up in New Jersey called JBJ soul kitchen, where the needy can come get a free meal & pay for it by doing dishes or whatever is needed. Pretty cool. Their music is great too. Lots of great tunes, live 'Livin' on a prayer'. Another example of a rockstar doing a balled is Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, singing 'I don't wanna miss a thing' which was used in his daughter Liv's movie Armageddon. That & Dream on are my favorite Aerosmith tunes.
LOL...
Jon is not "so young here", to me this is "normal Jon", today's Jon is what looks "old" to me... Same as every other 80's bands i grew up with
You should hear him sing Hallelujah. It is beautiful .
Can you imagine beeing a teenager in the audience, seeing this beautiful man (with a killer smile) play guitar and piano (which became his tools of trade when he was 13 and started earning in pubs), sing so sweetly and powerfully - and not fall in love? I'm a man in my 50s and whenever I see live performances from the 80s and 90s I fall in love all over again.
Oh, it's no doubt a beautiful ballad. However, my favorite ballads from the band are "My guitar lies bleeding in my arms" "Dry county" and "I'll be there for you" and from Jon's solo projects "Santa Fe", "Dying", "Ugly" and - of course - "Blaze of Glory". When you listen, you'll know why.
The “mistress” in this song is his music. Bon Jovi has a huge catalog and one of the biggest bands in the 80’s and 90’s and even today. Please keep going down that rabbit hole and enjoy.
Yeah keep telling yourself that.
Jon Bon Jovi wrote the song while dealing with a bad hangover and wrote the lyrics in an attempt to express how he felt at that point in time. In the line, "While my mistress she calls me to stand in her spotlight again," the "mistress" is the music industry and the live stage. The "spotlight" is the media. He calls music his "mistress" to show that it's a thrill, but something that perhaps isn't going to do him any good.
So beautiful this song. My favourite.
Britt, i hope you and your family are well and best wishes to the little one.
Love you videos ❤
Yes ge definitely is beautiful .... I think inside and out!!! He seems to be a truly solid guy!!! And the voice, oh mercy, whether rocking it or in a gorgeous ballad!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ And Richie Sambora's guitar is one if the best!!! ❤❤❤❤❤. His mistress is the stage, the spotlight! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Well said!
Bon Jovi has a TON of ballads/slow songs. Richie actually has a great voice, and is phenomenal guitar player. Check out Richie’s solo album “Stranger In This Town” and listen to Father Time.
Commenters are correct. The mistress is life on tour. This is a traveling band song. And it’s one of the best…. As per usual for Bon Jovi. They haven’t been around for this long for no reason. Excellence.
Been to 4 of their concerts and it seems everyone in the audience knows the the lyrics to all their songs. It’s because it always tells a story that people can relate to. Check out “I’ll Be There For You” It’s My Life,” “Livin on a Prayer”, This Ain’t a Love Song” to name a few.
We know them all 😊
I have been in love with Jon bon Jovi since the first time I ever laid my eyes on him more than 30 years ago. Most beautiful man ever!!
Amen, sister!! 💜💜
Yep! He is absolutely gorgeous.
I have seen Bon Jovi live 9 times, not only good looks, great vocals but a superior performer!! This is one of my very, very favorite songs by them. He is an absolute icon!!
"As I dream about movies that won't make of me when I'm dead." ..........This was their pinnacle of musical perfection. Hard to believe it's 30 years old! Britt, his Mistress is being a musician and standing on stage. Excellent, reaction.......
True fact in 1982 Jon was a solo artist Going to all the New York radio stations with a song called runaway which turned into a hit, the problem was Jon didn't have a band and Quickly had to find a Lead Guitarist (Ritchie Sambora) a Bass player(Alec J Such) and a Drummer(Ticco Torres) The keyboardist(David Bryan) was a friend of Jon's who'd he played in bands with before and also did recording sessions with Jon.
This whole event called An evening with Bon Jovi is a pure marvel. Call me a boomer.- but the music back then was just...better ;)
Used to send this to my wife whenever I missed her because I lived in Germany and she was in England at the time. Favourite line is "so far away each step that I take is on my way home" because of my deployments all over the world. I used to send it and say go outside look at the moon and I would do the same and text "no matter how far away we are we can still see the same things".
I've crushed on this man for decades and he's still gorgeous 💜
The mistress is the stage in the spotlight. Song was written for his wife.
His version, of Hallelujah is great
YES...he is gorgeous!
Jon wrote this! These Rock ballads were written by true poets. Sung by angels❤❤❤❤
Great rock bands perform Great ballads. Their powerful voice makes a big difference.
“Give everything a listen” I love that and it’s so true. You’ll appreciate so much more of music when you do
Jon. Beautiful. Not just outside, inside. Huge heart.
Richie Sambora on guitar and backing vocals.
Have you done "Dead or Aive?"
He wrote this for his wife Dorothea. He married his high school sweetheart. 💘
The mistress is the stage and touring.
Beautiful❣️
More please. 😊
I like the duet he did with Jennifer Nettles for Habitat for Humanity a number of years ago.
Rock music is a full package. Bon Jovi is an absolute legend of rock music.
He is so handsome. Please keep reacting to more. They are one of my favorite bands of all time. You should also watch one of the many interviews he has done. Him and his wife are such giving people.
Rockers wrote the best love song and breakup songs. Could you react to KISS, I still love you, MTV unplugged 1995. Not many reactors have done it . Paul Stanley wrote after learning on the news his girlfriend at that time was getting married to an actor. A very heartfelt performance.
Miss britt your bon jovi journey is going to be one that your ears will never forgot
If you like this song you should check out the music video for Bon Jovi song Always. Another great song and video of his that sadly all too often gets forgot about but it's a really good one. They used to play that constantly on MTV back in the day when that song came out. He was at the height of his fame back then.
The best and hottest musician of all times but the best part of Jon is that he is a kind, sweet, and generous human being. I have had the pleasure of spending time with him on several occasions and saw that side of him. This is my favorite all time Bon Jovi song
“Some day I’ll be Saturday night” is one of my favorite Bon Jovi songs.
Aside from being great musicians, their songwriting skills were off the chart. Every song told a story that if you were growing up in the eighties you could relate to.
Man he is fine!! Always was and really still is! It is not just his looks it is his music and his devilish grin!
This is old but gold. Love your reactions as always. I actually grew up on this music - glad to see someone appreciate it.❤
So good!
Bon Jovi continues to be so underrated despite all he has done. but he has been one of my favs since i was a kid back in the 80s jamming out to slippery when wet.
"Someday I'll Be Saturday Night" is a great Bon Jovi song to react to!! Love me some Richie Sambora!!! Yumm!!!
Yes!
Yup.Rock was a new freedom that the establishment had a difficult accepting. Thanks for opening your mind. You nailed it.
Song poetry- heart strung vocals and killer music
Bon Jovi is my all-time favorite band am I'm glad that I got to enjoy it from the very beginning. My favorite part was taking 4-of my children to one of his concerts in LA about 10-12-years ago.
The stage is the mistress.
This was an awesome gig and I recommend watching the whole thing in your own time. It’s called “An evening with Bon Jovi”
Most great rock bands have ballads as well as up-tempo stuff. I think that helps make for great concerts, too - they give you time to catch your breath!
When he says mistress he means the stage
I have two tattoos. One symbolizes my late husband, and the other symbolizes Jon Bon Jovi. That tells how I feel about him. I once commented he was the President of the PDC,
In case you don't know, Richie Sambora is the guitarist. You should also check out some of Richie's solo stuff that he's done. He has a few solo albums out and he's a great singer as well.
I was so young when this song came out. I was only of many young women who wished this song was for them. Show biz.
Prime Bon Jovi is a powerhouse vocally to the detriment of his long term voice. Every album was at the peak of his current range in really REALLY hard keys to sing in. Was no way he was going to sustain that vocal integrity. But damn was it amazing.
Millie Bobbie Brown is engaged to his son, Jake Bongiovi. He's the spitting image of his father. It's freaky looking at him.
Jake looks like his mother
@@peppermintcrush5794 ok
Jake looks the most like his Dad! It’s uncanny.
@@serpephone It's freaky...lol
Still my number one! For all time! Forever and a Day....
Jon Bon Jovi is a beautiful man inside and out. His songs and vocals, are Amazing. But also the band are truly brilliant the guitar and drums on this particular track just make it outstanding. Love your review’s britt, as you dont talk over the track, you respectfully pause and comment, in a articulate and enthusiastic, genuine way. Keep up the good work.
Bon Jovi is the band most credited with bringing a female audience into the Rock genre.
Other bands before them leaned into the "loud, angry, tough guy" trope and esthetic, but those blue collar pretty boys from New Jersey brought in women in DROVES.
And yes, wherever they went, panties evaporated.
Steve Perry's voice and Jonathan Cain's lyrics brought them in before this.
I grew up thinking the same about rock. I thought it was just a bunch of screaming & distorted guitar sounds. In the hood it was hip hop, r&b, pop & gospel mostly. The older I got, the more my music pallet extended beyond that because I stopped caring about what some of my friends thought. This was the first Bon Jovi song I'd ever heard at the age of maybe 9. I loved it at first listen! That opened my eyes more to the world of rock. I'm just a music head though. People are surprised when they find out how wide my music tastes go. I can find songs I love in almost any genre. Just depends on my mood. Could be rock one minute, hip hop, some country, gospel or orchestral the next, etc etc. Still listen to this now in my early 40's. Bon Jovi is dope!
His mistress is his music
(Stand in her spotlight again)
I'm not normally a big "lyrics" guy, but this song has a handful of some of the best lines ever written:
"I dream about movies they won't make of me when I'm dead"
"With an ironclad fist I wake up and French kiss the morning
While some marching band keeps its own beat in my head while we're talking"
"I wanna be just as close as The Holy Ghost is"
"I'm so far away, that each step that I take is on my way home
A king's ransom in dimes I'd given each night just to see through this payphone"
"Tonight, I won't be alone
But you know that don't mean I'm not lonely"
Such great lyricism. Vocally Jon just slays it, and Richie slays it on guitar as well. Just a perfect rock ballad. Next Bon Jovi song: Bad Medicine!
Jon hasn’t aged in over 30yrs
I just live this song and their music. Even now Jon is so gorgeous. I think his is in his 60s
I'll never forget. I only saw Bon Jovi in concert, once, at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo MI. It was Jon's birthday. They broke into this song and 19,000 people sang the entire first verse, word for word, with Jon. Never appreciated this song as much until I heard it live. In 1989 Warrant also did a song with this title but the lyrics were far different and not nearly sang as well. With all this said, however, I feel Always is a better tune.
Jon married his high school sweet heart amd they are still together now. ❤ it takes a strong love to get through his level of fame in the 80s and 90s.
love this song Jon great on the vocals and Ritchie such a great guitarist deserved his solo spot.
His duet with the late great cowboy Chris Ledoux out in Kaycee, Wyoming is a testament to his versatility. Also his acoustic set of Living on a Prayer, shows the bands talents. Great Review Britt! I knew the first time I heard a review of yours a year ago, that you would someday have a million subscribers.
He met his wife in high school together. Basically after she graduated, married, and married to this day.😮 He wrote this song about her, about how much he missed her when he was on the road and up on the stage.
How lucky many of us matured along with this rock genre! We also matured through R&B alongside rock! What a great experience!
This is now one of my favorite Bon Jovi reactions of all time! Jon wrote this song 🎶 about his wife, she was his high school sweetheart and they’ve been married all these decades! Please do another reaction from this same footage from this intimate show there is more of it! Please react to Keep The Faith from this show, it’s another great live song! I love ❤️ this band and yes, Jon is so good looking!
That’s why the phrase “music is a universal language” is so true!! The diversity makes it fun, but it’s when an artist delivers their version where you feel it in your soul, is definitely my favorite part! And that can be country, rock, anything Elvis and his magic touched every genre, Christian, hymns, opera…just music!
Jon Bon Jovi Married His High School Sweetheart 35 Years Ago-Why the “Rock Star” Life Never Mattered. Jon Bon Jovi and his wife Dorothea can boast more years together than most. The two met when they were in high school and have been going strong ever since! It's very rare in this day and age
YOU ARE TRULY IN BY A LEAGUE OF YOUR OWN AS A MAN AND ABSOLUTELY IM NOT SEPARATING YOU APART FROM THE REST BUT IVE COME TO RESPECT THAT YOUR OPENING UP THE DOOR FOR OTHER WOMEN AROUND THE ENTIRE WORLD DARLIN ❤🌏
Oh this is one the greatest rabbits you going to find, bon jovi is the music that is in a group by self nothing like bon jovi cause the man didn't ever sell out his ways, to me bon jovi is one of the sound tracks of my life his entire career is just all good it's like nothing can pull him down bon jovi is a power balled hair band at the same time hard rock balled this man is power ballad
That's why I like what you say, I see that you hear and understand what vocals are, when you can admit just to the honesty of music its really cool.
They were amazing to see the rock bands live in the 70 and 80s . ❤
@BrittReacts you should look up Jon & Richie’s version of Hallelujah. It’s pretty stripped down and honestly one of my favorite renditions of the song. I’ve never been able to find it anywhere except for on CZcams. It’s fantastic.
fav song of all times. They dont write like this anymore. "Wake up to french kiss the morning..."?! com'on!
Mtv broadcasted this Live Evening with Bon Jovi and during this evening they played golden oldies but also new songs of the Keep The Faith album which was coming up in 1992. Bed of Roses was one of the new songs they played that evening.
Song is a metaphor for traveling musicians. Hard enough the add a relationship. Not easy
Great to see your age group loving this, sorry you missed such a great time in music.
I listen to all kinds of music. It doesn't matter what in style, if i like it I listen to it.
I've Always thought Bon Jovi as really cute... Great reaction ❤❤❤
Jon Bon Jovi literally was a rock star. A hair band front man who managed to get a pass from dudes as well as be a hard rock pop god to the ladies so he was cool with everybody. And literally his side hustle was being a movie star for a ten year run between touring and recording at his day job, after dark. Jovi was The Goat.
Check out Living In Sin by Bon Jovi. It's around the same time period as this when he was at crossroads in his life both personally and professionally and just turned thirty. This is when he took a huge leap lyrically and became a legitimate song writer with really poetic soulful passages that encapsulate a feeling, a moment, a very specific internal thing that somehow also speaks to a universal truth we all intuitively understand and get on a deeper instinctual level while his music makes the experience paradoxically feel intimate and like a special injoke or memory just between you two. I think a huge part of his relatability and maturity as an artist and man was he always stayed tired and true to his roots and remained a Jersey Boy throughout.
He knows the terrain. He played a supporting part in an Ed Burns film from 1998 called No Looking Back and he is so real and authentic as the down and outer blue collar Jersey guy knowing troubles a coming and he's a good guy who the town severely under estimate the bad boy that lurks just below the surface and what he's capable of if pushed. He's the most reviewing thing in the movie. You can't take your eyes off him. He's just a naturally charismatic natural born matinee idol who just happens to be a bona fide legit good actor whose got the chops and delivers the goods. Then you remember, oh yeah, this is his spare time hobby, being an unmitigated born movie star when he finds free time to do it not busy owning it as one of the top 3 80s rock gods who never really burned out or faded away. He seemed to just quietly switch musical genres and become a country singer. Because, of course he just up and does it because, yeah, he's Jon Bon MFing Jovi. So that's a thing too
Living In Sin.
Great reaction. Bed of Roses is my second favorite song after Keep the Faith. Jon Bon Jovi is the ultimate showman. You need to check out a stadium live version of Bed of Roses, Ritchie's guitar solo is majestic. Seeing Bon Jovi live is a religious experience! Keep up the great reactions.
better than today's pop, this is rock, it will always be better than pop.
