In Episode 84 I cover Ace Frehley's song 10,000 Volts. 10,000 Volts is the first single released from Ace Frehley's upcoming album 10,000 Volts which is due to be released in February 2024.
    About the guitar:
In 1987 about five years after Ace Frehley left KISS for the first time, he entered into a brief partnership with Washburn Guitars. While Ace played various guitars leading up to joining KISS, he has been best known for playing a Les Paul guitar. During the 80's, flashy guitars were popular and Washburn produced this AF-40 signature model for him. He used it for the "Into The Night" video.
According to Ace, "I got introduced to people at Washburn, really nice people, and they designed this really cool-looking guitar for me [Washburn AF-40]. "Unfortunately, it didn't sound very good. I started off in KISS playing Les Pauls which, to me, is the best-sounding guitar in the world. "I played the Washburn a few times live and it just didn't have the sustain, it didn't have the output that I wanted, and I ended up putting it aside and going back to Les Pauls."
I remember thinking back to the first time I had seen this guitar and thought it was the coolest guitar I had ever seen for a guitar shape. Because of his partnership with Washburn, the first legitimate (expensive) guitar I ever purchased was a Washburn guitar. I placed an EMG pickup in it and it really took the sound to the next level. This will go with my collection of other KISS guitars and bases that I have and now I have a documented performance with it.
Thank you for your support of the channel and for celebrating the soundtrack to our lives.

That’s awesome! The first time I seen Ace without makeup was when he was holding this guitar leaning up against some amplifiers in a magazine. I’ve always wanted this model of guitar to add to my collection. Thanks for watching! đŸ€˜đŸœâ€ïž

It’s one of those guitars that you had to of been around at the time when it was first noticed to have a interest in it.

I remember that brief period back in the 80's when Ace was endorsing Washburn. It was right around the time I was shopping for my first professional grade electric guitar. One of my local guitar shops was an official dealer of Washburn and Charvel Guitars. I did not like the Bridges that Washburn was using at the time. I believe they had their own proprietary bridge that they were using at the time. And it was big and clunky compared to the Khaler and Jackson bridges that were becoming the standard in the industry. It's interesting that the guitar they made for Ace did not have that proprietary bridge. Because of the bridge issue, I went with Charvel. Still have that Charvel today.

Awesome. Charvels are awesome guitars. I agree that there were missed opportunities that they could’ve done back in the 80s to make it better. It’s funny because back then I was also shopping for my first legitimate guitar purchase and I bought a Washburn just because of this guitar. I would’ve considered a Les Paul, but I could not afford it as I was so broke, I couldn’t even pay attention. đŸ€˜đŸœđŸŽž

There is now an Af-40v Chinese replica that has hit the market(ebay). Would be interesting to see how it compares to the real deal.

I thought about getting me a Chinese one, but they look so rough when they get here.

They are hit or miss but can be fun projects especially to learn on. If you mess it up, it’s nice wall art. Thanks for checking it out. đŸ€˜đŸœđŸŽž
