I use a Bobby pin as a stitch marker. It’s so much better than my stitch marker.

Ty I managed to make one without making a mistake , though not backing it ass I’ll totally ruin it 😅 I found the 9 rounds perfect using a 3.5 hook with scheepjes cotton

You're so welcome Chesta! Yes, if you add a cork backing you won't be able to wash it. I recommend not adding one (I learned my lesson with it). It's plenty thick and absorbent on its own, and this way, you'll be able to wash it if it gets dirty. ☺
so is it more of a hexagon, or a circle? i ask because if it's a hexagon (or could be done as a hexagon) i could use it as a motif for a blanket 🤔
Great question! This coaster is more of a circle, but you can turn it into a octagon since each round increases by 8 stitches. In the video, I alternate where I place my increase stitches (2 hdc in same stitch) for each round, so that the final product turns out more circular. To get an octagon shape, you need to make your increase stitches for each new rnd into the increase stitches from the previous round. By doing this, you start to create corners.
For example:
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 8 hdc in Magic Ring. (8 hdc)
*Working into the third loop only:
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around. (16 hdc)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, [2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next st] 8 times. (24 hdc)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, [2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts] 8 times. (32 hdc)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, [2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts] 8 times. (40 hdc)
Rnd 6: Ch 1, [2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts] 8 times. (48 hdc)
And so on.

Which is the third loop? The small loop or the bigger one on the back?
Hi Sydney, the third loop should be the bigger one on the back, behind and below the front and back loop.
6 rounds was enough for a coaster.
