- Shao Kahn's ridicule is without a doubt one of the most iconic signature moves that a villain performs in any video game. TAs the name suggests, the move has Shao Kahn pointing his finger at his opponents while uttering some nasty insults, taunts, mockery, or just plain laughter. It is a trademark of Shao Kahn's and is what makes him one of the more memorable bosses in fighting game history.

Mk 9 Shao Kahn sounds the best to me. The “YOU ARE NOTHING” has so much power behind it and that laugh just *chefs kiss*

Disagree. I always thought MK9 Shao Kahn was the wimpiest. His voice was crap and his mask looked part feline. Awful.

Admit it, half the time he taunted, you still couldn't hit him.
His taunts ended too fast, when the player tries to strike, Kahn already blocked and dished out his wrath.

This is why Shao Kahn is so awesome. He's so fucking cheap in every game he's a boss in. He kicks your ass through cheap bs, mocks you while kicking your ass and will probably do a fatality on you just to make fun of you even more. He's the perfect fighting game boss, he's so cheap and he's so hateable, when you finally beat him, it's super satisfying.

I prefer the the echoing deep voice of the earlier games. They sound more menacing than the later ones. In the later games he just sound angry but they don't have the oomph behind them.

It must have been circa 1996 whenever I was first introduced to MK Trilogy. I remember watching my cousins play. All that gore, fatalities, the violence, and my cousins cheering me on whenever I beat one of them, 6 year old me was captivated. I remember once I went to the grocery store and I was waiting for my mom to finish with her purchase. There was an old stand up arcade machine which actually had MK Trilogy loaded up on it. I'm like hell yeah, let me get some quarters and play. Little did I know, that was my introduction to being handed Ls. Time and time again, I would get whooped and Shao Kahn's voice would boom throw the machine "HAHAH YOU SUCK". MAAANNN I went home and cried. Cried like a baby. 6 year old me couldn't comprehend why this machine was so mean to me. Years later, I bought MK 2011 and I finally got my revenge. A whole 15 years later. It's funny because as an immature human, I let my emotions get the best of me. As I matured and got older, I can't help but appreciate his introduction to the series. I might just buy this game now. Even if I'm 4 years late. The trash talking is supreme. Shao Kahn was my first introductory villain and damn has he stood the test of time.

@@Talia.777 he was definitely part of my childhood. I confronted him at 3 different chapters of my life. As a child (6), young adult (21) and now as a parent (32). And as if that wasn't ironic, now my kid cheers me on when I play as Shao Kahn and whoop people. It's the best. She even puts both fists on her side and does the infamous laugh. It's great 😂

He says it more quietly as if he isn't the slightest bit threatened by you but his voice still travles and echoes across the stage because he's a supernaturl demon. In the new ones he shouts like he's struggling to be heard. It's kinda like the chad vs virgin meme

This could've been brought back in MK1 by using that teabag taunt feature...
I think the reason Ed Boon didn't brought back Shao Kahn's taunts and infamous shoulder bash attack in MK1 is because Liu Kang, as a Timekeeper, tought they were atribiutes of Shao Kahn's emperror tyranny during past timeline and since Liu Kang gives everyone a redemption path, he deleted what was the power of Shao's, because he didn't want everything goes back what was before building his peaceful New Era. It's a little shame they're lost in MK1, but understable from Liu Kang's perspective and logical thinking.
His voice in Mortal Kombat Mobile is a different, though voice lines remain the same

I remember the first time I saw Shao Kahn in MK3 on my Sega Genesis. I was like 7 years old and I never made it to the end in 1 player. Most of the time I played against my sister and all the selectable characters seemed really cool to me, and I thought that was all of them. Until one day a cousin of mine, much older than me, came to play and unlocked the "killer codes" to appear on the roster, with that intimidating photo of him in gloomy blue and violet tones. I immediately became a fan of Kahn. That day I was: 😮
